Here’s my final thoughts on the Devil May Cry anime

(SPOILERS FOR THE WHOLE SHOW)

I enjoyed it like i enjoyed the DmC reboot. As part of the DMC franchise i hate it but as it’s own separate timeline thing it’s ok.

The DMC anime is literally any super hero netflix show ever: main character against the governement also it’s set in new york now and it has lots of futuristic cyberpunk-ish elements because it’s the trend (why are they trying to explain everything with science like demons, portals or Dante’s amulet).

There was so much unecessary exposition and everytime something happened on screen someone re explained what we just saw. The whole villain explaining their plan out loud or “haha i figured your plan, it’s [insert plan]” and the rabbit is like “yes you figured it out”. Show don’t tell. The people watching aren’t stupid.

Episode 6 was the best because characters weren’t talking and they show us what we need to understand without saying it out loud. Also Rabbit's backstory was nice.

I know the anime is supposed to be set in a different timeline but the whole humans are evil and demons are mostly good is spitting in the face of all of DMC. The whole point of DMC is Vergil will never be as strong as Dante because he rejects his humanity, but now humanity is really bad and demons kinda good. They changed hell to be just kind of another country with pretty much regular people when it’s supposed to be hell with demons.

Anyways, i don’t mind them taking the story in a different direction but it felt like every superhero show netflix makes with the whole uninspired superhero fighting the governement storyline and the less subtle, most in your face writing and messages. Side note but i’m really sad because i wanted this show to be an introduction to the franchise for my friends/people who didn’t play the games even if it was a separate timeline/story but i probably won’t recommend it. The fight scenes and visuals were good though but i probably won’t watch season 2.

I just watched the first episodes of the new Devil may cry anime and here's my live reaction to the episodes if you want to hear me ramble about my favorite franchise as i descend into madness (it's not that bad actually from the 2 episodes i've seen)

Episode 1

-Too much exposition

-Why is there politicians in my demon hunting show

-When you're happy we're finally getting a Dante centered thing because it's been a while and they hit you with random politicians talking for 30 minutes and 2 to 3 minutes of dante

-Loving my 2 minutes of Dante though

-TOO MUCH EXPOSITION

-Why did they name drop New York, where is my time and place blurry world building, like every place we saw in the games/novels where based on real places but weren't real places like Mallet island, Dumary Island, Fortuna, Red Grave. Also not every show has to be set in New York ok netflix

-Again who put these politicians in my demon hunting show and why are they talking about irrelevent things like demon dna and the quantum physics of opening portals to hell i don't want science i want dante

-Vergil introduced way too fast where is the mystery netflix? We don't need answers right away mystery is not a crime i beg of you stop over explaining all the lore in the very first episode

Episode 2:

-Cool that they introduced Dante's mercenary past from the novel

-Jet pack boots thingy Lady??? (She looks really cool tho)

-The dialogues are very netflix show coded, not insufferable but it can get annoying at time

-Why are they introducing so many random characters can we see Dante for more than 2 minutes per episode

-Enzo you little rat (very in character tho)

-After another painful 10 minutes of politicians we are allowed a minute of dante, how lucky, now let's wait another 20 minutes before seeing him again

-I don't really see Dante opening up to people that much

-Ok a Dante scene longer than 2 minutes WE ARE SO BACKK

-Dante's backstory in episode 2, again, a bit of mystery won't kill us netflix

-Billiards fighting scene yess that's what we want to see, Dante and his over the top "never let them know your next move" fighting style

-"who are we shooting at" ok that was actually funny

-Why is lady swearing so much and acting like an angsty teenager (i guess she IS an angsty teenager but still)

-She said shit and fuck so much that's very netflix animated show coded and i'm not a big fan of that brand of edgy writing

-There's a bunch of random people introduced like i wouldn't mind 1 or 2 new people but this show doesn't even focus on the main character. Can't we have 1 DMC media centered around dante (that's not 2 decades old)

-Nooo Dante is not stupid, even if he didn't know his dad was a demon he'd still know he's part demon like come on, insane regenerative power/super strenght/etc... he can put 2 and 2 together

-Cyber jetpack boots and now hologram traps, netflix you listen, not every show has to be cyperpunk

Anyways despite all my complaints the show is fun so far and it's not canon anyway, so far i'd give it a 7/10 (could have been an 8 maybe if there wasn't so much exposition and again ??politicians???)

Long time no see! I made a little DMC4 devil bringer inspired look for Nero's devil breaker because i noticed that he didn't really regrow a normal arm in DMC 5, when we see him at the very end of the game puts on a new devil breaker Nico gives him, his normal hand turn into a blue ghost hand thingy (for like 5 frames) anyways this gave me the idea for a devil breaker adapting to Nero's ghost hand underneath and allowing him to make this sort of armored buster

Fun fact when i picked the music to make the track art for it, it was a wip so i didn't know the song wasn't actually 3mins long but in fact 10 minutes long or even that there was going to be vocals so when i first heard the full thing during the live i went "damn the song's wip was already a banger and perfect but now it's somehow 100x more a banger and perfect"

Ok i have a theory on what could be Luffy's secret dream and after searching some theories on that i didn't find any mentioning this so i'm putting this here let's go (spoiler end of wano)

I think luffy's secret dream is to go on the moon! Ok hear me out, first we know it has to be something a kid could think of because he told Ace and Sabo about it when they were kids (and like every kids want to be an astronaut so it works).

Second, in the cover stories we learn that Enel went on the moon so that could be a way to see Enel again (and since Enel went there we know it's possible and i really want the strawhat to go on the moon that'd be amazing) and it's also said it something that seems impossible, even more than being king of the pirates.

And 3rd point look at everyones reactions:

It fits! What threw me off at first is how different everyone reaction's was, especially chopper and usopp's like you would expect them to have a similar reaction due to their cowardly personalities like if Luffy said something like "i want to throw the biggest party in the world!" both would have a positive reaction like Chopper and if he said "i want to destroy the world government!" both would be scared like Usopp but here Usopp is real unsure while Chopper is like "thats awesome!".

These reactions fit the theory, Chopper just thinks it's awesome, seeing the thing from a kid's perspective while Usopp thinks "oh shit we really going on the moon oh fuck can we even breath out there ahhh". Nami, Jinbe, Robin and Zoro's reactions are on the "???" spectrum while Brook, Sanji, Franky (and Shanks it seems) just think it's funny as shit. I think that could be their reaction to Luffy's dream being "I want to go on the moon". There you go i've been thinking about this for months, thanks for reading, i did not reread this post before posting there's probably many mistakes and stuff that means nothing have a good day
