#hahaa one more ungulate!#special place in my heart for okapis#at one time when I was a kid we had a play where we were different animals (there wasn't any end goal we just I guess played the circle of#life we had seen in nature documentaries with my friends by running around in gardens and forest) Anyway you couldn't pick same animal as#someone else and a couple of my friend were always fighting who could be horse bc we all were horse girls more or less#so I decided to avoid the drama on my part by going though animal books and finding The Cool Horse Okapi to be my animal#(I knew okapis weren't horses but their shape appealed to my horse girl heart) (but they were also different than everone else's favourite#animal so it was cool) (I think my friends thought it just looked weird and not horse which is the cool and beautiful animal)#(and that was the first sign of me not being cishet I guess)

Hadn't ever looked into those guys and shame my willppoer ended before I got to colours#very shaped creature very shaped horns very nice sharp stripes! and their striped mane going all the length of their back! very colored als#but glad there's love to all kinds of ungulates out there <3#also shoutout to our ancient boy shivatherium and even more ancient boy pakicetus bringing the era diversity here#what sparked my obsession this time was looking into all kinda prehistoric carnivore ungulates that had existed

If you don't mind sharing (I understand if so) I'd love to know how you do the weathered fresco look! I tried to do smth similar in my own art recently and it... didn't work how I wanted xD
Hi, I don't mind! It's mostly thanks to a couple of cool brushes I happen to have. I tried some other methods of drawing or painting some texture and cracks but in the end just drew line art with my crispy pencil-like brush and colored with flat colours:
Then painted texture in greyscale with neat oil/acrylic brushstroke imitating brushes and put that on "soft light" layer mode and 70% opacity. Kind of simple but still looking a bit like plaster that has been painted on.
The last mentioned paint brushes are for Krita and HMM I really tried to look where I had downloaded those but they are either a) made into Krita default brushes and not separately downloadable (but Krita is free program and you would get them with that) or b) behind a paywall with a bundle of other brushes you could download with some painting lessons? maybe? But like, I have the brush set with this and five similar paintstroke like brushes if anyone is interested in these and wants me to send them an email or google drive download link etc. whatever would feel least shady link to open.
#I could post the bundle somewhere straightaway but idk how many Krita users are there#(But yeah if you don't have Krita I'm sorry and now you feel my pain when every digital brush I stumble upon is for Procreate Photoshop#or maybe Clip Studio)#(It is a pit of my own making since I wanted to learn digital painting with a free program and chose Krita for cool brushes#but Krita has some unconventional shortcuts that I used to use first and now I'm too deep in muscle memory to change)#(But it is pretty smoothly working pit so)#ask

Style testing cultural art style for a story project I've rotated for a while. I've posted some character art of that to my Patreon, but I've been planning to slowly start posting the oldest ones here as well. This was originally a ttrpg setting, but since I've made it a setting to rotate and plan without secrecy with my sibling, it doesn't have to be behind the scenes material only anymore.
