Anyways this was my first time drawing the 2012 gang (other than one screenshot redraw of Mikey’s face ages ago) and like goddamn why they gotta have so many different colors on them. Their limbs are very fun-to-draw shaped tho.

Bit hypocritical of me to say tbh; I’ve been behaving like a literal toddler with how much I’ve been dragging my feet about reading the sequel fics until recently. Like, you like their writing, you’ve had it before but no, my brain can’t commit time to those now even tho most of them are on the shorter side compared to the main fic. But then The Knight and the Dragon updated and I was like okay but Jasonnie tho… (which shoutout to the author once again for introducing me to this ship in the first place lol. Love the Not Part of the Plan series as well) and Comet was the thing that finally punched me in the face and went “read the rest of the damn fics already” and here we are

Anyways I made part of her dress translucent because after drawing the legs I was upset that they weren’t gonna be visible with the clothes on top. This happens way too often.

I’m also working on a very short and meme-y Jasonnie comic that’s almost finished save for the colors and I’m itching to go back to, so I’ll drop that as soon as it’s done.

First post of the year let’s goooooo

I once again offer fanart for the iconic Heroes that are Half-scaled by @nicoleisaboat-blog. Re-read it recently and thought y’know what’s been collecting digital dust for literal months now? Well now it’s at least outlined (might add color later, who knows)

I’ve wanted to draw a dragon turtle pile since the first chapter and sketched it out before it actually happened, so this is not completely accurate to the fic

I wanna draw either the nexus dragon fight or Raph with tusks next but who really knows when that’ll happen yk how it is

Have y’all heard of Tommyinnit: Into the Turtle-verse yet? Because…

The character dynamics in this series are everything to me fr fr

I have ideas for more fanart of this but I am SLOW and also working on art for other fics as well so everything might take a while for me

Drawing Tommy in the rise style made me realize I actually haven’t drawn any humans from the series??? Like literally all I’ve drawn so far are the turtles, I need to change that sgdfghgf

I drew these for Adversary (which is the 5th part in the series, so I’d recommend starting here instead) but they posted a new part yesterday that kindly reminded me to add the white streak in his hair bc I straight up forget it exists most of the time

I return to deliver more fanart for Heroes that are half-scaled by @nicoleisaboat-blog ! Turns out combining my Rise hyperfixation with my life-long love for dragons is a sure fire way to get me to obsess over a fic. Well played.

So here we’ve got some full body sketches of my interpretations on how they look like as well as two more quick doodles from work.

(I feel like Raph is starting to compete with Donnie over being my favorite turtle. I mean

look at this guy. Look at him and tell me you wouldn’t die for him. You can’t.)

I wanna go over some design choices real quick (I’ll try to keep it short lmao)

Mikey is very Round™️ except for his horns which resemble the stickers on his plastron (as stated in the fic). Unfortunately I think they’d prevent him from fully retracting his head (I also think none of the others can retreat fully into their shells since their limbs, necks and shells are kinda massive compared to before. I do feel like Mikey would get the furthest tho).

Donnie is obviously the smoothest both scale wise and in regards to lack of horns and spines/spikes. Like I said before, shortish legs, long-ass neck and tail (bc softshell turtles’ necks extend). Kept all his tech and, most importantly, his eyebrows. Speaking of tech, his draconic battle shell was one of my favorite aspects to design even tho I normally hate drawing machinery. Figured I’d give it a dragon scale pattern to fit the aesthetic and I think it works well. Also, snoot.

I absolutely love how Leo turned out. Braincell 1 was like ‘what if we gave him this kinda snout’ and braincell 2 went ‘absolutely based, let’s do it’. His red “ears” extending all the way to the tip of his tail is an awesome idea and I wanted to make them a bit jagged bc parallel lines are Boring. I broke up his “mask” so it’d be a bit more expressive and to have some extra variation between all of them (it does extend almost all the way to his shell on the back of his neck). Possibly my favorite design element is that the base of his antlers look like the base of his ōdachi!

Raph still is the most armored among all of them but like, dialed up to 11. Extra hard massive shell, scales extra spikey, alladat. I also gave him multiple rows of spines kind of like an alligator. He has the shortest neck relative to body size among all of them, mainly because I feel like bulkier, heavier dragons tend to be more stocky or “compressed” I guess (plus variation value. I wanted them to be 100% distinguishable even without looking at their shells).

As you can see I am obviously Very Normal about this AU.

After only five short months of art block, I finally finished it! Literally had this idea since chapter 8 dropped.

I love the dynamic between Toph and Leo so much (tho I will say that about every dynamic in the fic, they’re just so dang well written!), like…

Raph: hi this is our new sister, Toph. She’s a menace to society and I love her :3

Leo: to annoy? For to annoy???

And Toph just doesn’t understand he’s irritating on purpose and doesn’t actually dislike her because she doesn’t have siblings

I think this is the best thing I've ever done. I didn't even use any anatomy references, and it came out really close to how I saw it in my head. I'm not going to lie I am so proud of myself right now.

Also watercolors are life.

Sooo… I couldn’t stop my dragon-obsessed self from immediately sketching the turtles as dragons as soon as I read this fic:

I literally sketched these at work bc I read the first chapter during my break. Couldn’t stop myself. As soon as I had a free minute I was like “gotta draw Donnie. Here and now. Before I lose it”. Touched them up a bit at home and now here we are

So since Donnie and Leo are the same height but I felt like a long neck would work best for dragon Donnie, I thought long neck+short legs for him and medium neck and legs for Leo. Balance.

Also I didn’t intend for Raph to look so much like a cat. In fact, I didn’t even notice how cat-shaped his head was until I wrote Mew Mew Mew. I was just trying to vary the face shapes as much as possible and this is what happened.

Anyway the fic is called Heroes that are half-scaled! It’s a very fun read, can only recommend!

Easily two of my favorite scenes from the earlier chapters just in terms of sheer “fuck you” energy

And lastly, a small prediction I made about when the gaang finally meets Toph:

It did not happen like that (sadly) but like imagine their reactions if Leo basically ignored what they thought to be spirit-repellent lmao

Anyway, that’s where my backlog of art for A Tale of Spirits ends, since that’s when my art block kicked back in :’)

I’ve even got an unfinished animation for the fic that just flawlessly demonstrates how the final 10% will take just as long (or longer, in this case) than the initial 90%

(Also, this isn’t a fan blog for just this one fic, it was just the first one I felt motivated, inspired and equipped/capable enough to make fanart for without it taking forever or looking subpar I guess. The rottmnt art style really helped.)
