The Devil Plays The Fiddle - Chapter 6 (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/1287561131-the-devil-plays-the-fiddle-chapter-6
Sloane Carlisle was on track to her perfect life. Settling down in Connecticut with her dream man, was exactly the picture-perfect future her mother set out for her. Long gone were the days of sneaking out and hooking up with rebellious rockstars. That is until Adrián Serrano re-enters her life. Gorgeous, passionate, and intense - he was unlike any man Sloane had ever met. Their time together had been tumultuous, and all-consuming. Sloane swore she'd never go back. However, the more time she spends with him the more she remembers what it's like to get lost in him. Torn between the new world she's created, and the old world she left behind - Sloane must find a way to be true to herself without losing it all.

NEW CHAPTER
“You know Sins of Lucia. You know Adrián Serrano. ” Gabrielle said with an awestruck shake of her head.
Sloane hoped she effectively hid the shudder that ran through her body at the mention of his name. She slid the photo away from her, she couldn’t look at it any longer. It was too late though, the image had been marked on her brain for years, it’d been one of her favorites. It was Jayden, the lead singer of Sins of Lucia that’d captured them that day. Always insistent that they should capture these times, that they’d want to look back at them someday. Sloane, her body lying against his in the booth of that cheap diner, attempting to cover her face with her sweatshirt. Wiley smiling through cheeks stuffed with pancakes. Leo, looking too much like his brother as he gave the camera a blank face in rebellion.
“I knew him,” She corrected, clearing her throat. “We were kids. What does it matter?”
Gabrielle looked at her, disbelief and confusion on her face, “‘What’s it matter?’ His solo release is all anyone can talk about.”
“So I’ve heard,” Sloane replied, sipping the Matcha latte that was much less bitter than her tone.
Gabrielle intertwined her fingers, leaning over Sloane’s desk. “He won’t grant anyone an interview. Salisha’s been trying to get her team on this for months. Do you know how massive it would be for Gabby and Gildstone to get an exclusive like this?”
Sloane sat quietly, taking a deep breath to steady herself before she asked the question she already knew the answer to. “Why are you here Gabby?”
“You two seemed pretty close here…” She led, her finger drifting over the photo.
“No,” Sloane said with a fierceness she’d never used with her boss. “I know what you’re asking, and the answer is ‘no.”
But the truth is, Gabrielle Jeong didn’t know what she was asking. Didn’t know what it was costing Sloane to even engage in the conversation. To sit in a room with him after all of these years…
She stood up sharply. Gabrielle, sensing she was close to crossing a line, did the same. “Just think about it okay? Let me know in the morning.”
Sloane nodded, stepping around her desk. “I’m gonna take a ten.”
She rushed out of the office before Gabrielle could reply, stepping into the elevator and hitting the button marked for the rooftop. The air hit her immediately as the doors opened. She took a few deep breaths, relieved to be out of the enclosed space that was her office. She looked around, there were a few stragglers in the makeshift staff space that was utilized by most of the building; Some scrolling through their phones, others talking quietly amongst herself. She found what she was looking for in the guy in the corner, leaned over the railing - smoke flowing out of his open mouth.
“Hey,” She said, walking over. “I just ran out. Could I..?” She asked, motioning to the cigarette, he shook his head, before offering her one of his Camel menthols. She gave him a small smile of gratitude. He lit the cigarette, and Sloane took a long inhale of the first cigarette she’d had in years.
