Constallation journey continue... The legend of Lyra tells the story of Orpheus, who was given a harp by the god Apollo. Orpheus' music was sweeter than that of any other mortal man. It could soothe any savage, bring joy to the heart of the weary. It was even said that rivers changed course to stay near its beauty. Orpheus married the lovely maiden Eurydice. A Galaxy Apart This is a story of an old Chinese legend about two stars, Altair and Vega, in the constellations Aquila and Lyra. In this legend, two people are joined together in love but separated by the stars. Once there was a man named Altair. One Sunday evening, Altair sat down under an oak tree and practiced an old love melody on his flute. All of a sudden, a white dove gracefully swooped down from the sunset painted sky. When the dove landed, it turned into a beautiful young woman. It was Vega, the maiden of the sky. So Altair did, and every day for two months, Vega would descend from the Heavens at sunrise and ascend right before nightfall. Vega’s mother,  got so furious that she descended to Altair’s field, found Vega, and dragged her back home. When Vega’s father, the Emperor of the Sky, saw their love, he became sympathetic. Moving closet to the equinox, I wanted to share a few legends of the constellations. Today I share with Ophichus, the great serpent. Ophiuchus is a large constellation straddling the celestial equator. Its name is from the Greek Ὀφιοῦχος Ophioukhos; "serpent-bearer", and it is commonly represented as a man grasping the snake that is represented by the constellation Serpens. Ophiuchus is most frequently associated with the Greek mythical figure of Asclepius, son of the god Apollo, who was said to be able to bring people back from the dead with his healing powers. Asclepius learned how to do this after seeing one snake bringing healing herbs to another. This happened when Glaucus, the son of King Minos of Crete, fell into a jar of honey and drowned. Asclepius saw a snake slithering toward his body and killed it. Then another snake came along and placed a herb on the first one, which miraculously brought the first snake back to life. Asclepius saw this and took the same herb and placed it on Glaucus’ body. The king’s son was miraculously resurrected. Asclepius was raised by Chiron, the wise centaur, associated with Centaurus constellation, who taught him the art of healing. In one of the myths, Asclepius was given the blood of the Gorgon Medusa by the goddess Athene. This solar return has been absolutely magical. Tomorrow, I will mark another year on my calendar and I am infinitely grateful to be where I am and give birth to a new me; the one that is closer to God. Last year I almost died from anaphylitic shock from vasp attack. Soon after I was innitiated into Tantric lineage. One of the definitions of Tantra is transformation of poison into a nectar. For me it was very literal transformation of vasp poison into medicine. Symbolically, we turn our pain and impurity into a gold finding divine beauty in every intention, every experience, every desire. For underneath guilt there is innocence, underneath judging a longing for perfection, underneath envy there is a desire to be the very best we could be. Be gentle with yourself, have mercy on yourself and others, move into the darkness of your heart and you will find it's full of stars.
