I could just go on forever about how much I love Disney’s Mulan.
Like that “I’ll make a man out of you” is basically just a gender-flipped version of “Honour to us all,” and Mulan only actually succeeds when she stops trying to fit into either box and does what she’s good at, which is being a fucking resourceful genius, which we’ve seen all through the film,
The dog propelled chicken feeder, winning the chess game in Honor to us all, USING THE WEIGHTS TO CLIMB THE POLE (Bonus in that discipline and strength become tools to reach her goal instead of holding her back, oh my god), causing an avalanche, using a fan to catch a sword and then killing Shan Yu with fireworks. Holy shit.
The girl at the matchmaker’s was an act, ping was an act, Mulan saves china.
