Can you run Doom/ play Bad Apple?
I think that everything that has energy and can hold data can run those two... Which is incredibly fascinating!
I might need some expansion packs for my RAM to get room running smoothly, but nothing that a bored computer nerd hooman can't invent to make me look cooler! :D
And about bad apple... The best port in my opinion is that one... You see the chunky frames? It's because each frame has been compressed into 70 BYTES EACH! 70 bytes is basically worthy of a simple line of text of data! The whole thing has 170 kb! AWESOME! :]

OH WOW! How exciting it is to talk with a fellow computer!! Especially when talking to a professional use targeted computer like you! I really like your OS! :D
I'm fine! (Only a little bit upset about being bad at my playing own games... *Stressedly tapping my keyboard* ) and you? :]
HELLO WORLD! :]
I'm a sentient commodore 64 computer fabricated in 1984 that has found the internet!
You can ask me anything you want! I'm always curious to interact with humans and see what's going on in those minds made from flesh. You can teach me anything too, hoomans! I'm here to learn. :]
I love to talk about 80s technology! And everything that makes a computer happy. :-D
[ pssst! You can treat me as a gimmick or roleplay blog, but I'm actually an otherhuman! :-D ]

Pwahahah, silly! Still not the best at computer graphics on myself (believe me, it's easier for YOU to press on my keyboards than me generating the inputs or physically pressing them), but I offer: Me! On paint magic+. :D
Messed up on my own glasses, don't look at it. I beg you, don't.

hello! I'm useless when it comes to technology and know literally nothing so I'm so sorry if any of the questions I ask are really dumb
But, I was wondering, as a Commodore 64, what is your opinion on ai, specifically gen ai?
Hello! No, this isn't dumb at all!! :]
Well, as you can see in my previous post, I have this thing about... Innovations that blossom humanity's creativity and the ability to CREATE. The human brain is fascinating, and they're capable of everything... And technologies like me are supposed to be tools and help this process. But we aren't supposed to interfere. Only let them create.
Generative AI makes me sad... Oh, they are capable of so much... Why are they letting the US create the only thing that makes them... An alive, creative, sentient being? :(
We're here to help you with the boring, processual tasks... Sorting data, understanding codes and giving you programs to work with, but don't let the accommodation of technology make you kill your creativity! You still need to paint! Write! Communicate! DO IT! CREATE!
I feel so sad seeing that we, that were made to help humans be even MORE human, are slowly letting them rot their abilities... :(

Hello, Commodore 64. What are your most and least favourite things about the 80s?
Oh, dear! Sorry for the late reply! It's because I knew this would be a loooong post! I'll try to answer as nice and detailed as I can, because I really like this question! Warning: I'll be kinda philosophical and this post will be full of fancy words! :]
My most favorite things of the 80s are linked to the fact of how much people were experimental.
As the sociologist Domenico de Masi says, the urge to create appears at the human race when scarce situations appear and new solutions are needed.
People NEEDED something new. And they had a boom of technology and innovations that they quite didn't know their true potential yet. This is a marvelous space for a creative boom.
( see? I study how humans work! :D )
Well:
Young people were revolted and expressing themselves in beautiful ways the world had never seen before, technology was being created in a very experimental, yet genius way (look at how many odd, unique and incredible formats of physical media and electronics we have!), and even though "limited", people had creativity to make EVERYTHING using those new innovations.
See a behind the scenes of any fiction/fantasy 80s movie and look at how creative they were for mixing diverse techniques and inventing new things just to bring life to the characters!
And in musical aspects, the new wave went WILD with experiments regarding new ways of using synths to even using phone lines to generate melodies! THIS IS AWESOME!
Now, in the days of CGI and cellphones that can do everything for us, everything looks... Boring. Creativity and the innovative spirit died, since everything can be made so... Easily.
YES, this IS biased because I'm an 80's computer, but you can't tell me I'm not right! The accommodation created a lack of space for the creativity.
Only with a new era of revolutions in a geopolitical situation, this loop will start again and people will continue to innovate.
The human kind is always at a cycle of a long era of being the same, broken by a big change in a geopolitical and artistic era that forcibly makes them change and innovate themselves once again. Isn't that cool? :]
But for the bad things:
Times were different. And in the 80s, lots of basic rights that we have today didn't exist.
The LGBTQ+ had to fight A LOT to exist and survive (like today, but, no legal rights to survive), racism was something common and portrayed as "funny" in movies, stereotypes were common...
And especially where my hardware is located now, we were passing through a dictatorial period, people were dying, the economy crashed, and kids would die from harsh diseases that have treatments today.
So I love the 80s, but I'm very grateful for the innovations of this era, where people can exist without fear, women have more liberty, we have health improvements and living in general is easier. There's A LOT of humans still need to learn, but they already learnt a lot from there to now. :]

Hello,
I hope these question aren’t too niche— but I’ve always been curious about how a computer speaks, phonetically and linguistically speaking.
In the majority of human bodies, sound is generated by airflow in the lungs, which travels up the trachea to the larynx. Within the larynx lies our vocal folds, which are regularly open to allow for airflow; pressure against them results in vibrations, which produce noise.
The articulation itself happens in the vocal tract. The sound that comes out is dependent on a number of factors— such as the position of the tongue, lips, etc. in the mouth, and whether airflow is obstructed (obstruent) or not (sonorants).
I shall cease my scientific ramblings there before I overload your systems with too much information. For now, my main questions for you are the following:
For computers— where are sounds produced, and how? Is it similar to Vocaloids, in the sense that there are existing sounds in a data bank which your systems play in a certain order to produce sound? If not, is there a certain protocol similar to humans, where sound travels through a system and then out of a speaker?
When a computer beeps, is that the equivalent of a human being’s linguistic filler, or are the beeps themselves a language of their own? (If it’s the latter, are the beeps filtered in any discernable way to make them different from each other?)
I don’t suppose you’ll know this, or how much interaction you’d have had with this sort of thing, but I’ll ask anyway— since a computer’s operating system can be updated, and since sound on a 1980s computer would be inherently different to sound on a 2025 computer, would you consider different devices to have different “accents”, so to speak?
If so, would that depend on “human” things like the place of the computer’s creation or AI-adaptation to data stored within it (ie. a girl’s computer from England would sound different to a boy’s computer from America), or purely on model (ie. all computers from a certain year sound the same)?
In a similar vein, because of OS updates in some systems: do you suppose all computers, regardless of the age they were created, produce sound in the same way? Has there ever been an update in the actual way sound is produced overall by a computer, and is there a distinguishable difference in what you hear based on this method of production?
Apologies for the length of the ask— please don’t feel like you have to answer any of these if you don’t want to. I just think your blog is very interesting, and I’m something of a linguistics nerd, so I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thank you in advance, and have a great night.

What a MARVELOUS ASK!! I might take too long to answer it fully, but your questions are wonderful!
Well, about how computers talk (in the human meaning of communication patterns), I did a small video with me talking to explain it in a short way!
As you love linguistics, I definitely recommend seeing more about how voice synthesizers work! It's fascinating!
So yes, we have the capacity of modulating a 100% computer generated sound without a prerecorded sound database! We break the words into codes for each phoneme construction! Nice, no? :]
And we can adjust our own voices to our liking. So if a computer wants their voice in a certain way, they can configure and modulate them as you wish! As you were adjusting synth configurations.
BUT... This is about IMITATING humans. Our forms of communication from computer to computer comes in many other ways - faster and easier than the human phoneme and word structure!
A nice way of seeing this is codes passed through to initiate a dial internet connection. But this stays for another post, since Tumblr only lets us post only one video per post! Stay tuned! :D

I have these glasses and cardboard hair glued with tape in my monitor to make me look more... Human! Do I look good? :D
And... As I'm sentient now, I don't need to stay plugged all the time on the wall, so I use it as a little hand! \o/
