So LOA is my baby that i have so many plans for. For context, it’s a sort of creature au where the world has been taken over by the 5 major mythical creatures that call themselves the Divines (vampires, werewolves, sirens, veela and witches) and humans have been imprisoned into camps following a war.

The fic follows, james potter, a training hunter hiding underground with a rebel group. Remus lupin, a werewolf assassin who kills to survive. Sirius and regulus black, vampires who have their own agenda. There’s a whole lot of plot of the governing system, magic, history, lore and a building war that had been lost before.

As for a little unedited snippet:

The dreams grew fangs and in the darkness the stars turned red, blinking in hungry delight. Cottage living rooms with floating lanterns for light turned into explosions of jades and twilights, imprisoning him in a circle of soaring flames. He felt vines like scales growing up his ankles to his shoulder blades until he couldn't even twitch. Needle like spears tearing into his skin as blood trickled down his tongue that tasted like sweet wine. Chains around his throat bearing a furious pressure on his heart and a timeless drop of an unmoving body.

Until it stopped like a final breath. Death rushing in like an inhale of a scream. Each nightmare alternating between fear, anger and pleasure each night. It was a heavy weight his shoulders were refined to carry, lest he wish the crumble under the yearning. And so James Potter doesn't tell a soul about what he sees when the lights go off and his mind conjures beasts he almost became the dinner of had he not been rescued. He keeps his lips locked when deja vu comes in the form of a vampire built like his dreams and he hesitates to kill. He keeps his head down when his running mind of tangled yarn pins photographs to his board of who? Where? Why?

Alas, his friends could hear his unspoken words, see the red string and feel the tension when he carves wooden stake after wooden stake after wooden stake.

His dream self couldn't drive a weapon into the chest of the monster with angel eyes, but the fangs of his dreams and the fangs just centimetres from puncturing his collarbone, were very very different.

i’ve been dying to talk about Hide your fears so this may turn into a rant but it is basically a darkest minds au with regulus- except i’ve put my own twist on it and added a few plots.

For those that don’t know the book series, the fic is basically like an apocalypse where there’s a huge pandemic that wipes out a bunch of kids. the ones that survive get powers, that are categorised by colour. These kids are piled into camps, while the most dangerous are killed off.

The story starts with regulus black escaping his camp and running into this group, who promise to help him get home and find his brother. only there’s a few twists he doesn’t tell them about and their world is slowly falls apart just when they find their sanctuary.

The question made him feel like the seatbelt was caught tight beneath his chin and was tightening, tightening, tightening. They'd left them behind. He was here and they were still there. He felt untethered, floating outside of his body. Or perhaps split in two; one part of him had never escaped and he's grieving that part of him but celebrating the split. Because the Regulus at the camp was a ghost and now he feels corporal and too heavy for his bones. He'd spent so long as a wandering spirit, he felt brain dead. Alive but not.

You know that feeling where an idea of a fic completely takes over your mind for weeks- months even- and you have so many snippets prewritten and plots and micro-plot ideas and you’re buzzing to write it-

then you realise that to actually get there you have to start at the beginning? the place where you can’t just start writing about all the character dilemmas and moral values being questioned and love stories because you actually need to write the build up? those first few chapters where you do the world building and have the characters first interact but you’re just dying to be 15 chapters ahead where they’re pathetically falling to their knees in anguished love BUT YOU JUST CANT AND IT MAKES YOU WANT TO SCREAM?!?

What if! The Black Brothers and Rosier Twins were friends growing up. Regulus and Pandora have always been close, but Evan and Sirius use to be close, cause they were the older of the siblings (I headcanon Evan to be the older twin, and that their birthday is before Regulus's), and other reasons, but mostly that. What if a few days before Sirius left for Hogwarts, the Rosiers spent the night, and while Reg and Dora were asleep, Sirius made Evan promise to watch over Reggie while he was gone. What if Sirius told Evan that it was his responsibility to watch over Dora and Reg now that he was gone at school, just like how Bellatrix told Andromeda, who told Narcissa, who told Sirius. What if that's why Evan and Reggie, initially, became best friends? They were obviously friends before, but they weren't super close until Sirius left. What if Evan was just as devastated as Reg when Sirius came back for Christmas holiday and realized he had changed? What if that made him resent Sirius a little, what if seeing Regulus be hurt by it as well made him resent him even more? What if, despite Evan resenting Sirius a bit, he still tried to be his friend (cause I believe they were each others first best friend that weren't their siblings)? What if Evan convinced Regulus and Pandora to find Sirius on their first train ride to Hogwarts, because he wanted to sit with him? What if when they found him, he was already sitting with his Gryffindor friends and was mad that they had come to find him so he took them out of the compartment and told them, in French, that they weren't kids anymore and they don't have to follow him everywhere he goes, that he has his own friends now and doesn't need them pestering him, what if that's the first time Evan thought he hated Sirius? But what if, despite hating Sirius, he still followed his orders of taking care of Reg and Dora? What if that's (part of) the reason why he joined the Death Eaters in the first place, so he could take care of Regulus? What if Regulus saw Evan more like a big brother than Sirius after Sirius left him? What if that made Sirius hate Evan? What if they both died hating their first friend?

In my mind Hope was 100% a botanist, especially when she was younger and then maybe after remus got ill all the time or as her arthritis got bad, she became a florist always talking to her customers about the history of the bouquets. Either that or simply a stay at home mom.

But what about Lyall?

Cause if we follow canon, a zoologist makes so much sense but i feel like it doesn’t fit entirely. especially when we consider the lupins in a small cottage in wales, struggling a little with money and their son who requires a lot of attention, a zoologist seems a bit out there. So what else? Maybe just a nerdy guy who has a hobby in researching animals and keeps dead insect pinned in casings on the wall. but what career?

What do people use to write their fanfics? like where do they keep them all and distinguish each chapter and the planning and anything they’ve prewritten for future chapters?

because i’m over here using Google docs and it’s been annoying me for months how unorganised it is. like i hate to mention the great evil, but at least wattpad had ways to separate the chapters

Writing an idea just off of its aesthetic is so difficult!! like i know the vibe and could easily make a movie montage but there is like no plot. It like watching a trailer that makes it look like a masterpiece, only for the film to be shitty.

also them, will degrade any writer who doesn't write a coffee shop au, or university au, or jegulus in the only acceptable grumpyboyxsunshineboy trope, bullying artists for drawing sirius with body hair, bullying writers for not writing your exact headcanons, not allowing for people to grow their own opinions (aka. making ATYD the "intro-fic"), and not supporting artists and writers who are not the fandoms "it-person" for the week.

starting friends in this fandom is so scaryyyy!! like i’d love to have my own little circle of buddies to rant with and talk about my fic ideas and their fic ideas and there’s so many people i admire and want to go searching through their brain (in a non-creepy but also devoted way) but making that first move is scary

there are a certain few fic authors I'd love to be friends with... and I feel like they know who I am, but I've never started a friendship a day in my life. So fanfic authors pls come to me!! Especially!! If you're a certain few authors and we have some mutual friends, and I'm mutals with like two of you.
