Vocals that please the ears, lyrics that touch the heart, and sounds that carry the emotion. Those were always the key things I liked in music. I'm no singer. And I can't play an instrument to save my life. But learning to produce music and building up my skills in sound design has helped me slowly turn ideas into reality. From my previous original electronic tracks, so remixing songs full of vocals and lyrics. It's been a exciting growth in making songs which are closer to my goals. When I first heard 'me, myself', the lyrics resonated with me. Talking about hardships and struggles with oneself. But then acknowledging it and moving on. How it's 'okay to be broken'. Words which are probably quite sad, but also have hopeful and positive undertones in their meaning. I wanted the backing music of the song to reflect these lyrics and undertones. To create something more powerful. And thus I just knew it had to be produced as a #futurebass song. Hope you guys like this remix! The Making of 'Gungame' Pt.1

What started as an experiment, later became a song that would help me learn, grow and try new things. I wanted this to be a reflection of my growth, to draw ideas and inspiration from everyone and everything around me.

It started with a melody which I scribbled together in seconds (litterally). I created a basic synth, a drum pattern, and mashed together a skeleton of a song within an hour. After which I sent to my bro for his thoughts

Immediately it was clear that the melody needed work. In particular the finishing high note. After I listening to it again, I thought it was trash lol. So I went back and made some adjustments. The tweeks made the melody resolve much better. (And this melody would remain virtually unchanged till the final release)

Next up was the percussion. The original pattern was pre-school basic. And the sounds themselves were just pulled from a sample pack. @aim_bbox gave a short beatbox clip to highlight the sound n pattern he was thinking of, which would later be used as a drum pattern variation in the song. Beatbox was also sampled to create a completely original drum kick! Which I thought worked so much better than just pack samples in the end.

Although progress was made, it was still just basic skeleton of a song without a real theme or overall structure. The song was parked aside for weeks and months before inspiration struck.

At this point, covid had hit. And being at home in iso meant more time to focus on the music.

~things I never told you pt2~

Playing around with a song I wrote a few years back. At the time I really struggled to share my thoughts with others, and writing songs was an outlet for me.

When I finally summed up the courage to privately share songs i wrote with friends... it was a mixed reception. Some were encouraging, some indifferent. But what stuck with me for a while was when I was told "... sometimes you just need to know when to give up". And it bugged me at the time because it was something personal to me. Something I did for myself to express who I was. In a way, them telling me to give up. Was in essence, being told to give up on myself.

Having been afraid of how people might perceive me. Then being told I should give up on what made me feel genuine. It became clear that... not everyone is gonna like you, or what you do. Maybe it's from misunderstanding. Maybe it's ignorance. Maybe it's just from insecurities. It doesn't matter.

Wasn't long after being told to give up, I started to write this song. I'm no rapper. But I was trying to capture the mood of how I felt with anxiety at the time. This genre seemed most fitting.

Having picked up a few production skills since first writing it. I decided to have a little fun and do a quick recording of this old song I had laying around. Was fun trying something different. Might come back one day to record everything (only recorded half) and produce it all properly. We'll see.

New Year. Bring on 2022! Christmas/New Year break was suppose to be the chance to finally catch up with friends, family and finally travel a little for a change of scenery. Although that was quickly cut short by covid. What was ment to be a celebration with friends interstate became a quiet, at home toast in isolation. Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise? Could have caught a virus interstate, then caught another strain after coming back 🤷🏻‍♂️ Who knows. But on the bright side I wasn't alone through it all. In retrospect, being in quarantine for 2 weeks alone at home was a lot worse. In particular because it was when lockdowns had ended and everyone else was out n about. But, thinking about it... it's all the more reason to make the most of the time we have. Whether it's due to gov rules, our health, finances, circumstances, etc. We're not always able do the things we want. So when we do get the chance, it makes it that much more special. Another day, another lockdown over. And a long weekend begins. It's been cold, windy and stormy. Power outages and floods throughout the suburbs. Whilst some people worried what to do without electric in lockdown. My biggest concern was the car having cold start issues on E85. 😅 I spent days learning the basics of car tuning. Tweeking various values, timings, and re-flashing the custom maps onto the car. It's been fun learning and putting my knowledge to the test. As of now, it starts first time 20% of the time. And 2nd time 99% when below 10c. Progress 🤷🏻‍♂️ Otherwise, running on E85 has been great. More power, torque and even a cleaner and nicer smelling exhaust 😌 Although it's come at the cost of 10% lower fuel economy and cold start difficulties. Worth it? Ever wonder how difficult some photos were to take? 🤔 Lining things up, finding the right angle, getting into awkward positions. In the end, all that was done behind the scenes to take the final shot arent captured. I suppose you could guess by imagining where the camera must've been, or the time taken to set things up. But ultimately, the moment captured didn't capture those moments. But, that's life I suppose. A series of past events that lead to the present. Photos can only capture a moment in time. Not the story behind it. And yet... one can still guess or get hints and what might have made things the way they are. Perhaps that's the allure of photos, the allure of the present. Everything in life has a story behind it. And whilst we might not know the exact details, we're given hints of the journey taken. I feel as though this is a long way of saying... don't judge a book by its cover. Chilling with the dog, back when the weather was better ☀️ I find it special how people can understand their pets. Despite them not sharing the same language, upbringing or even the same race. The feelings of happiness, excitement, joy, pain, love. They can all still be felt, sometimes in ways which could even be described as more pure than human to human interactions. Communication is a funny thing. We often hear the term 'language barrier'. And yet... some things are communicated so clearly without it. Because behind all the little details and fine print, the underlying driver behind everything is emotion. The sound of a cheering crowd, a crying baby. The sight of a warm smile, or the wide eyes of shock. They tell a thousand words on their own... whilst at the same time share no words at all. I guess that's what I like about music. It goes beyond the idea of common words to express emotions. The melodys played, the sounds designed. The very fact that songs in different languages can still gain worldwide appeal is proof that their is so much more that unites us than divides. The fact that songs without lyrics can make people dance in unison is simply just magic. Anyways, that's my random thought for today. Next song is actually ready for release. First picture ever taken of my project car! 🚗 Subaru BRZ tS. I chose the car, not because it was particularly fast or because it showed some kind of status. But because it was a platform which could be modified and transformed into anything I wanted it to be. The appeal was knowing that it had foundations for something great. But it wouldn't be special or unique unless work was done to make it that way. In a world where it's so difficult to be original. Bombarded by trends or collective ideas of what's right or wrong. Sometimes it's just nice to have something that's just... me. There's nothing wrong with driving a car how it was made. Just like how theres nothing wrong with reading a book someone else wrote. Or singing a song that tells a someones story. But there comes a point when I sometimes wonder. What's my book? What's my story? WOOO finally got these new plates! Creatively, it feels like its been a slow start to the year. I was stuck in quarantine, fractured my ribs and just constantly hit by randomness whenever I wanted to get the ball rolling again. That being said, it's not like I didn't get anything done. I'm so keen to finally share some of my other projects. Originally I wanted this page to be purely music related. But... Let's be real, I'm no professional artist. Favourite pose: Does sitting down and doing nothing count? Despite the ongoing restrictions, I still find myself busy and always having the 'next thing to do'. The next song, beatboxing, learning new skills, helping friends, car mods, etc. To the point where I'll even be burn out at times. Pre-Lockdown when I transformed into a Christmas tree! 🎄 Looking at the silver lining. Being cooped up at home with everything else closed, there was more time to focus more on music. Whilst it was always at the back of my mind, having ideas and putting in time to actualize them are very different. It's been an enlightening journey so far. Learning everything from new production skills, copyrighting, distribution, artwork, or even basic networking with people. What might of taken a year normally had been compressed into weeks. With that in mind, pretty excited to see how much more my skills and knowledge can grow during these times. Waving my arms blindly with an image in mind, not knowing how others would eventually see it. Having an idea is one thing. Expressing and sharing it well is another. Learning the skills to better express my musical ideas has been a never ending process. With such big ideas in mind, I still feel like I'm coming up short to my own goals.
