gross sensory description under cut
you have to scrape the food off with your nails and I rather die. literally just thinking about it makes me react terribly.

I think autistic people who found out they were autistic later in life, whether it be actually diagnosed or self diagnosed, go through a hyperfixation. And I think it's less of a hyperfixation on autism as an individual "concept" and more of a hyperfixation on yourself.
My family may have hated my rabbit hole of autistic things but I'm grateful I had the opportunity to have myself as a hyperfixation. I know more about myself than anyone else now and I think that's one of the most beautiful things in the world.

I know that now may not be a great time, so feel free to ignore.
Hello :)
I am a graduate student working on a master’s thesis research study on autistic joy on Tumblr, and I plan to interview people for 30min to an hour.
The interview would be recorded, and though you have to have your camera on initially then you can turn it off, and the interview would be over Zoom.
Anyone can participate, regardless of diagnosis status :) If you want to participate, you must be 18+, a US resident, and proficient in English. For paperwork reasons, if you have a learning/intellectual disability (not autism/ADHD/mental health issues for example), you should not disclose it. If you would like, I can tell you the topics and some questions that I would be asking.
At the end, you would receive a $5 gift card after providing an email. Would you be willing to participate?
This study has been approved by the University of Maryland Institutional Review Board (IRB #2235876-1). If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them.
Thanks, and here, a kitty for the cat tax <3

when I was in middle school I went an entire week without talking, because of an "experiment". really I was just nonverbal, it was the most relaxing week of school I've ever had.
EDIT: I was informed that nonverbal is the wrong term!! I was actually experiencing a verbal shutdown!!!

@rurustims provided me a lesson that nonverbal and verbal shutdowns are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!!
I will be researching soon and posting about it cause this is important!!!
gist from what they said: (semi)nonverbal is permanent and affects the autistic being all the time VS verbal shutdowns are due to meltdowns/shutdowns/burnouts and doesn't affect the autistic being 24/7

id give (almost) anything to have somebody take care of me for a couple days. I'm so burnout I'm regressing. It feels like I can't do anything. I need someone to help me clean and take care of me for a bit. not even asking for long, but idk anybody who'd be willing to. I'm exhausted and can barely function. I'm scared I might be kicked outta school cause of this.

does anybody else ever get seasonal burnout? not necessarily depression but seasonal autistic burnout.
I've noticed that the past few years I've been burnt out around this time of year, same again with this year, and I was wondering if it's just me.
lmk if this happens to u too cause I just wanna know if I'm weird or if my burnout is 100% somewhat reasonable
