Mid-20s, he/him, good working knowledge of things I made up, enjoying the sun and the storm and the stars (but not the shadow). Student and writer, aiming for lawyer and author.
I’m the Federation commander of the refurbished Cardassian space station Terok Nor, now Deep Space Nine. I’m also a part-temporal moderator between people who are simultaneously Israeli and Palestinian and pan-dimensional beings who need to be reminded that tomorrow follows yesterday and not the other way around. I’m also a single father and a widower. I’m also obligated to deal with Quark. I’m also a pretty decent player of a game that’s been extinct for centuries.
Toph should not have been a cop because it reduces her agency to that of a political figure, rather than the force of literal nature she is. Better for her to maintain the Academy, or become King of Omashu, or Hell, restart Kyoshi’s short-lived landscaping business.
Lin, on the other hand, should never not have been a cop. Not only because she’s darn good at it and loves her job, but because it would permit her to forge her own path with the same kind of power as her mother in a completely different field. It does mean that some of the similarity tension with Tenzin is lost, but as far as I’m concerned that just leaves both of them slightly more open to compromise on their goals. Plus, there’s the tiniest chance that Suyin won’t be as obviously the favourite this time around…
Reblog if you also think Toph shouldn’t have been a cop.
I want to see how “unpopular” this opinion really is outside cop-worshipping Reddit.
I don’t even care if it’s macaroni, ramen or those little bowls you stick in the microwave. Please, I need reassurance that most of the population on tumblr WOULDN’T STARVE TO DEATH if their parents couldn’t fix them food or they couldn’t go out to eat.
…see, the thing is, I’m almost certain Tumblr has had stories like this before. Almost to the letter.

Now trapped underground and increasingly furious, the princess must get back to the kingdom to exact her revenge upon her asshole in-laws.
