Fucking hell. The fire department just left my house. My carbon monoxide monitor went off. They had to come check the house. Every thing is fine. But good gravy.

I wish people who are teachers would decide if they like kids or teaching? There’s a very important difference.
In other news, I’m off to a new school next year.

I am the director of the Intervention Program at my school. A kid got picked up today 1 hour and 15 minutes late. How do you not know where your 8 year old is for hours after school? Mind boggling!!!!

Grief is such a weird beast. Since my dad died, I haven’t received a gift from my family for my birthday or Christmas. The only people who give me gifts are my students.
I send gifts to my SIL, brother, niece and nephew. I love giving people gifts that they want or that I buy with them in mind.
And it’s not that I didn’t get anything. Lord knows I probably don’t need more “stuff.” It’s the idea that when you get a gift it was something that was picked for you. That someone thought about you. And not receiving anything is a lonely feeling.
Which leads me back to grief. I know that the loneliness I feel at my birthday or Christmas is a manifestation of me missing my Dad and missing our traditions.
I don’t know. Part of me feels like being sad over gifts is the height of pettiness, but those feelings are there. Maybe if I put them out there in the universe in a safe place it’ll help?
Everyday is a new struggle.

I had to take my mom to the doctor’s office this morning. The doctor was pleased with her health and she’s gained some weight. In her case that’s good since sometimes people in Assisted Living Facilities lose weight. Then we went to lunch and she laughed and ate an entire sandwich!
However, I wrenched my back—and this is not a lie—putting down her bath mat so now I’m at home on a heating pad. Having a body that is getting older stinks.

The kids on my street are using my porch for their hide and seek base. Every so often I can hear one of them counting.
#I gave them permission#my driveway is the only one that is long and on a hill#sometimes I’ll find their chalk drawings#it’s cute#It makes me happy to hear them

Y’all. Y’ALL.
Today in class I was at my small group table and I needed to plug my computer in. I leaned over to plug in my computer and my chair tipped over and dumped me out on the floor. I landed in a fairly upright position with my chair on my back. My injuries are minor, but I’ve learned one thing—Getting older means pains and bumps and bruises happen more frequently.
My students sweetly rushed to my side to help. But now I’ve got a big bruise on the top of my foot, a bruise on my back and a sore wrist.
BUT!!! I’m ok. So if you need something to Giggle about today, imagine me, dressed as Valentine’s Day complete with red wig, pink and purple eyeshadow and hearts painted on my face tumbling off my chair on the floor in the middle of class.

Got this from a parent today. It’s a shame you can’t reach through the computer and punch people in the face.
Not only is the testing schedule posted on the board, but I email the schedule to the parents WEEKLY!!!!!

My cousin, quite cruelly, told me today that 19 years ago Outkast released Hey Ya. The guy I’m seeing laughed and said that we were both in our “ late 30s” when the song came out. First of all
And second of all, I’M 6 YEARS OLDER THAN HIM.
