The beginning of All Systems Red is probably the fastest I've ever been hooked by a book, the first line alone got me pretty good but the whole first chapter has stuck in my head- the visuals, the timing and pacing of each line, every time I've relistened/reread it (too many times to admit) it I can see it so vividly so finally drew them to release them from my head

Yet another AO3 bot situation - please spread the word!

Hi, it's me again, the person who wrote that viral post about fanfiction plagiarism! Today I'm here to warn you about abuse perpetrated by bots who have stolen AO3 usernames.

There's currently an epidemic of bots going around leaving (apparently random) horrible, hateful comments on people's fics. This isn't the first time bots have invaded AO3, but the big problem with this wave is that they're using real AO3 usernames to do it.

I learned about this when another writer contacted me after receiving the following comment on their story:

Now, while that is my username, I DEFINITELY did not leave this comment (and anyone who would leave something like that on a fic should be slapped! What an awful thing to post). This fic is in a completely unrelated fandom that I have never participated in, nor has that author participated in any of my fandoms, so the probability of it being some intentional fandom drama thing to make me look bad is also low.

The writer whose fic the comment was left on enlisted the aid of some friends and tracked down other guest comments with unrelated usernames attached, which is pretty strong evidence that they are being left by bots at random.

The TL;DR: If you receive a cruel comment from a (Guest) with an actual AO3 username attached, it's most likely from a bot. Please do not lash out at or dogpile the AO3 user who owns that name, and who in all likelihood has no idea that their name has been hijacked for evil.

If finding this kind of comment on a fic, even left by a bot, is likely to upset you, I would recommend changing your comment settings so that only users who are logged in can leave comments. To do this, edit your story settings, and under "Privacy," select the radio button that says "Only registered users can comment," as shown below.

Please spread the word to other AO3 users! And if you see mean guest comments on other fics, maybe let the author know that it's probably from a bot and not a real person who thinks their writing is bad.

Okay Severance folks I have just accidentally stumbled on the fact that the word Vitriol, in addition to all the symbolism we've talked about repeatedly since 2x08, is also an acronym in Mason/alchemical belief.

It stands for: Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem,” or "Visit the interior of the earth, and by rectifying what you find there, you will discover the hidden stone (philosopher’s stone)”.

In modern esoteric philosophy this seems to be referring to a process of journeying within and confronting your inner conflicts and coming to terms with them in order to move on. Other interpretation are freaking open. Looking for actual references on this will get you to the looney side of the internet REAL FAST so I can't vouch 100% for this, but it seems this IS definitely a thing in Masonic temples and also supposed to date back to an alchemical text in the 16th century.

So given that...much to think about. 2x08 as a delving into the earth (the past) and facing your past demons to reemerge more focused? A hint at the finale, with literally going down further underground to find the hidden object of your desire?

I don't know. It's 5am. But you needed to know this.

OK here are two characters that die in season 1 but significantly influence characters in season 2.

Skye as page of cups

Pages in the RWS Tarot tradition usually represents a child or young person, or a message. Cups are the suit of water, emotions, relationships.

Skye in season 1 has a crush on Viktor, a common meaning of this card. But the way she conveys this, by saving Viktor from death and having him read her letter, gives Viktor a powerful reminder of the cost of what he's risking with his experiments and how far he has gotten from his true goals. Page of cups often represents a daydreamer, so it's appropriate that Skye reminds Viktor of his ideals.

Skye in season 2 continues to represent Viktor's desire to help people, and is now fully a daydream! I think. We see him return to speak to her to get motivation and moral guidance.

Cassandra Kiramman as 10 of pentacles

Pentacles are the suit of wealth, work, luck, luxury. They are associated with earth, pragmatism, and responsibility. Tens are completion of the suit, and so this card represents the pinnacle of prosperity.

In season 1, Cassandra is on the council, has a loving family, is investing in the future, has a legacy and a mansion. She's got it all, and neither her nor Caitlin really seem to appreciate their circumstances. One of the key messages of this card is to recognize where you've gotten so much of something you don't value it anymore.

In season 2, Cassandra keeps providing for Caitlin by passing on her name recognition, her power with other council members, and importantly, her legacy in the Kiramman files. Another meaning of this card is passing things on to the next generation, and so we see how Cassandra's information and influence are key to Caitlin's success.
