"a ship I have many thoughts on" 👀 tell us about Eileen/Minerva?

ANON!!!!!!!! i was so excited to see this sfvsfv sorry in advanced that my answer is going to be a rambling mess (it’s 3am and i’ve been writing fic for hours so all of today’s brain cells are used up) but

in like. 2017?? when i got re-invested in hp i got really fascinated with the people who would’ve/could’ve been at hogwarts around the same time tom riddle was, and then promptly got obsessed with the possibility that eileen and minerva could’ve attended hogwarts at the same time. the canon birth years are: tom 1926, hagrid 1928, eileen c. 1930s, minerva c. 1935, abraxas c. 1930s – so you’ve gotta play a bit loose with the material (this was also pre-whatever the fuck tcog did to minerva’s age) but it can work and once i figured that out i just loved what it can add to the story (particularly how it can impact snape’s relationships with some key people in his life).

at first i got really into eileen’s relationship with abraxas and how it might’ve influenced lucius befriending snape when he arrives at hogwarts (and how with the age gap between lucius and severus, eileen might’ve known a baby lucius) but that is a headcanon for another time. 

after that my brain went “imagine sev arriving at hogwarts just to realise the transfig prof. is his mum’s ex girlfriend” and i did not look back. I MEAN

(i like to think that they were a few years apart – or even the same year bc it’s a headcanon and also i don’t respect jkr so i’ll do what i want, but) competitive gfs in rival houses??

many arguments are had over what constitutes actual wizarding sports (gobstones are an embarrassment to wizard kind – ancient mcgonagall proverb) 

many of these arguments end in “hate” kissing

(and hate Other Things)

OR EVEN JUST post-hogwarts, pre-tobias hook-ups??? literally anything works i just love the idea that they had a thing at one stage

because now imagine minerva seeing severus show up like oh, shit

maybe snape knows, and doesn’t know how to approach it, so he pretends it didn’t happen,

but more likely, he doesn’t know. so instead he wonders why prof. mcgonagall gives him weird looks sometimes.

and a fave trope with this setting: minerva slipping up when sev is a smart ass and saying something along the lines of “you’re just like your mother”

sev (curious boy he is) wants to know exactly what minerva knows of his mother

(when he does find out, he wishes he’d never asked)

AAAND i also really love to entertain the idea that eileen is still alive during the second war, which opens up a whole lot of reconnecting with your ex ideas (a trope i love). like:

everyone assuming snape has no family to notify of his death; cue minerva knowing better and having to hunt down eileen to tell her the news.

OR cue minerva not knowing better, and eileen showing up pissed no one told her her son died.

OR (even better – because obviously snape did not die) minerva and eileen awkwardly reconnecting while sev recovers from his latest near death experience

(bonus points: sev just happens to wake up as they share their first smooch in over thirty years)

(he immediately wishes he really had died)

my headcanon of eileen used to be a bit kinder than what it is now, so i suppose these scenarios also change with how you see her relationship with severus, but still. i just think it’s fun to think about?? i’ve always wanted to write a fic exploring the idea but so far have not.

AAAND the most important thing!!!!!! i requested them in a gift exchange as a throwaway in 2017 and got some really amazing art out of it, which everyone should go look at.

In order to help spark the inspiration, we’ve chosen a theme for each of the four weeks leading up to Christmas: ‘Frost’, ‘Lights, ‘Preparations’, and ‘Festivities’.

We’ve also included 7 prompts for each week. You can combine several of them in one piece, skip the ones that don’t inspire you, or even create multiple works for a single prompt!

Don’t worry about tackling the themes in order, or about being late. In fact, if you have older winter-related works you’d like to show the Snapedom again, go ahead and send them in!

Either submit the post to our blog, or tag your own post using #snolidays2023 and #snapecelebration.

We're excited to announce that the Snape Calendar 2023 is finally ready!

The Calendar's theme is 'Legends and fairy tales' - the art pieces all feature Severus Snape as the main character in stories from across the globe.

For Professor Severus Snape, Valentine's Day is an opportunity to be especially vicious.

He will teach his students the unethical nature of love potions. How to recognise the effects of the potion and counter them.

Professor Snape will demolish every love letter he gets his hands on. And he would argue that he is doing them a favour - many of the letters are horrifically embarrassing.

He has really come to love Valentine's Day.
