Other options for the Great Prophecy
A good chunk of the fandom seems to dislike the oath to keep with a final breath portion of the prophecy. There was actually more than one way for the prophecy to go
Seven half-bloods shall answer the call
This was extremely vague. Other than the need for them to be half-blood (potentially removing any legacies from fulfilling this line) their parentage is not a requirement.
Will, Clovis, Katie, and many more could have gone on this quest. There isn't even really a requirement that the half-bloods need to be both Greek and Roman so you could potentially remove any of the Greeks and have a full cast with Gwen, Dakota, and Michael.
To storm or fire the world must fall.
Splitting up this line for a second. To storm or fire doesn't really require them to be related to gods of storms or fire.
The canon options that are spelled out in the MoA are Jason, Percy, and Leo.
Option A: This ignores the fact the Frank should have been a candidate for either option since he's related to Poseidon (god of storms) and has his lifeline tied to a stick that he can set on fire by willing it.
Option B: You could also use any of the minor deities like a child of Kymopoleia (goddess of violent storms) or somebody blessed by hestia (goddess of the hearth)
Actually Jason and Percy's claims to being the storm are kind of weak. For the first book the only real storm ability he has it he could understand storm spirits and it was quite clear if that was a storm power or if it was related to them being made of wind (a power that Jason was shown having a connection to). It isn't until MoA that we really see Jason summon any storms (during their eidolon possession battle and when they are escaping Charleston)
Percy really only has being Poseidon's son and the one mini hurricane that he summoned in TLO. He wasn't able to stop Kym's storm during BoO and is mostly a swordsman (using his powers very rarely).
Option C: You also didn't need them to have storm powers or even be related to any storm deities and could have used the person fulfilling the storm be someone metaphorically being a storm.
Personally storms are a calm before a violent screaming. Meaning for me I'd use Octavian since he's described as having a shrill voice (tornado sirens) dies screaming (wind blowing at high speeds) has a connection to storms since he was introduced at the temple of Jupiter (who also had storms surrounding it if I recall correctly) and was the last person who held the flag of the legion (during MoA a dream sequence with the legion driving black SUVs (side note where did that flag go and why was it never used again after SON))
The world must fall
The fandom seems to be torn over Gaia rising with some thinking she never should have fully awoken and others thinking that she should have taken a lot more effort to defeat.
Option A: World didn't have to mean Gaia rising. It also could have been Gaia doing a Kronos like think with somebody close to one of the seven. (A cute way to describe somebody you love it to call them your world.)
Option B: It could have also been used to describe one of the camps. Presumably it would have to be Camp Jupiter since the fandom was extremely attacked to Camp Half-Blood and although CHB getting destroyed would have up the stakes I imagine the the fandom would have lost their minds (more than when Annabeth and Percy fell into Tartarus)
Jason would have only known Camp Jupiter since he was given to Lupa at 2-3 years old so him describing Camp Jupiter as his world would not have been outside the ordinary.
An oath to keep with a final breath
The canon fulfillment of this is when Leo goes back to Ogygia after using the Physicians cure to rescue Calypso. Never mind the fact that if he went back to Ogygia then he technically didn't take his final breath.
The logic of that is since he died that was his final breath and the Physicians cure bringing him back gave him a second life but Leo is still breathing aka his hasn't taken his final breath. A second life doesn't matter if Leo is still alive.
Option A: So in the story there were multiple oaths that could have been used. In TLH, the gods have broken their oaths to claim every demigod at CHB by the time they are 13 (or was it 14 i cant quite recall).
Somebody could have died making sure the gods actually kept this oath this time. Or you could argue the gods never kept that oath because Frank had just turned 16 at the beginning of SON and you could argue that the oath extends to the Romans.
Option B: Maria's oath was to be granted riches and Pluto swore on the river Styx to grant it. Its why Hazel's precious metals were cursed because gifts given because of a oath sworn on the Styx were cursed.
Both Maria and Hazel died because of that oath. Maria grew resentful because of the curse, Gaia took advantage of that resent and persuaded her to move them to Alaska, Gaia then forced Hazel to revive that giant in Alaska (I'm not gonna try and spell it from memory), and Hazel killed both herself and her mom using said gift.
Obviously my opinion on Leos situation means I don't think Hazel fulfilled this line but Maria is still dead. Meaning her oath was kept to her final breath (Pluto didn't take away Hazels gift)
Option C: This last one is a little bit finicky but Percy's promise at the end of SON. I get that it is a promise and not an oath but the only difference between a promise and an oath is the fact that an oath has an outside force is going to force you do follow through with said promise or is going to enact consequences if you don't.
Meaning Octavian again. Octavian said he was going to hold Percy to his promise to fight with the Romans if the Greeks had attacked. Percy obviously didn't meaning Octavian was following through with what he said he was going to do.
He famously died being shot into Gaia but there is no evidence that Octavian ever strayed from his goal. He couldn't force Percy to follow through with his promise and such moved onto the consequences of not following through (he marched onto CHB ((not relevant to the prophecy breakdown but Octavian would not have the power to order the legion to march on CHB, he's still a centurion and Reyna is the one leading the march and calling the orders ))
And Foes bear arms to the doors of death.
I haven't seen any real complaints about this line other than my own. Just personally I would have preferred one Roman and one Greek to be the ones in Tartarus since the two camps were at war.
Thinking of it being Jason and Annabeth who fell since the whole no children of Minerva and the removing the war aspect thing that Rome had going on and the whole children of Athena starting every conflict that the two sides were on situation.

Pjo fanon that people keep repeating at fact:
I don't have an issue with them in Fandom but when people use it as an argument as if it was canon
1. Greek demigods die before reaching 18.
They don't it was specifically children of the big 3 that were more likely to die before 18.
They met heracles a son of Zeus who managed to have children with his first wife, have all of them die, and then remarry 2 more times before dying and becoming a god.
Heracles was also related to Zeus 2 other times in his lineage.
Rick never mentioned Odysseus lineage so if he's still a descendant of Hermes is still up in the air. Hell, many of the people at troy on the greeks side were distantly related to gods.
Even with that line being about big 3 kids. Thalia and hazel deaths had extenuating circumstances.
Thalia was being hunted by hordes sent by Hades after learning Zeus had a child after swearing on the Styx not too and Zeus killing Maria and attempting to kill Bianca and nico.
Hazel was not killed by monsters. She committed suicide to stop whatever that giants name was in alaska.
Bianca death was entirely avoidable. Phoebe being taken out by poison could have fulfilled that line of
2. Luke was right
Luke was not right. His motivations until the very last book was because of his daddy issues and his ego.
He was upset that Hermes couldn't do anything about his mothers condition and ran away.
He was indirectly at fault for Thalias death because he kept seeking out monsters to fight and then blamed Grover for her death.
He tried to kill Percy multiple times in the first book alone.
The "respect for the minor deities" was a line Kronos and/or luke told Ethan and presumably other minor deity children to get them to join.
Luke didn't care about demigods considering he was at camp in the first book and vould see with his own eyes that cabins were starting to take sides in the godly arguments.
He tried to kill percy multiple times.
He poisoned Thalias tree, the only barrier that kept the monsters out of CHB.
He tricked Annabeth into holding up the sky by using her own affection for him, despite knowing it could kill her.
He sent his own half-brother into the labyrinth to find a way to traverse it.
3. Anyone's ages.
We have only 2 confirmed birthdays (Hazel and Percys).
The main characters + thalia, grover, Luke, nico, and will are the only people we have ages for.
(I can't remember if we were told Reynas age in her backstory or not.)
The romans were only given years at camp Jupiter and we are only told a few camp half-blood characters are college age which is anywhere from 17 and beyond.
The rest of the minor characters are given no information on their ages.
4. Most of Camp Jupiter things.
No camp jupiter does not train as a group. We saw one mock battle (war games) because Percy, Hazel, and Frank were there for 2 days before being sent off on the quest and we got no flashbacks to any other training in either Hazel or Franks povs
Said mock battle was also directly compared to capture the flag but nobody's argues that Camp Half-blood train like a group.
Also we have multiple examples of romans fighting solo. Jason took out trip single handedly, Reyna was attempting to fight a giant alone, Hazel took on Alcyons(?) without help, and Frank dealt with snakes by himself.
Camp jupiter is also not uncreative/thinks inside the box.
Jason quite literally thought outside the box when defeating Midas. Frank was the one who came ip with the plan during war games.
Depending on if you believe what we are told then Octavian managed to come up with a plan involving no casualties on the roman side.
We have no evidence that legacies are any where less powerful than there demigod relatives.
Of the 3 legacies I can think of one is related to a god who doesn't give their children any powers, there's frank who is able to shapeshift, and there's octavian.
Whether or not octavian actually has the gift of prophecy, he still can stab someone through armor and reload a weapon that usually takes 4 people.
Romans are not weaker than the greeks. Most of the time they seem to be either equal or stronger.
Hazel can shadow travel, summon precious metals, and use the mist with no problems as opposed to nico almost dying during BoO and having to take a nap during TLO.
Reyna can literally give her strength to others.
This last complaint is for one redditor in particular.
JUST BECAUSE THERE IS A HEIGHER POWER(S) DOESNT MEAN HALLUCINATIONS OR HEARING THINGS ISNT POSSIBLE

I think most of the issues with HoO start within SoN.
Like the world building. We're introduced to Camp Jupiter through Jason as place where they were fine branding a 2-3 year old. A place where they are sent to train with a wolf that would kill the failures.
Camp Jupiter worships the roman gods, who are specifically described by Clovis as more distant and more militaristic.
Yet when we meet them at Camp Jupiter its light-hearted with almost no oppressive atmosphere.
We're told Frank is hiding his heritage and the fact that his life force is tied to a piece of wood yet the only thing either of those two do is free Thanatos and has no bearing on the worldbuilding or even comes up as a plot point past this. Hell I don't even think Camp Jupiter's learns about franks heritage.
Hazel's hiding fainting spells, cursed gold popping up, and the fact that she was dead. We get a small connection between one of those and Octavian "blackmailing" her but its completely dropped by the end of the book.
Camp Jupiter dislikes borders on despising both Neptune and Greeks yet when Percy appears the camp seems to drop it and never brings it up.
Also almost every diety we are introduced to are using greek names despite them having actual roman names.
The military aspect of the camp is completely ignored. There is absolutely no way for Frank and Percy to be promoted to centurion and praetor respectively.
Frank has only been there for 6 months. We don't know if he's been on any quests and the few incidents he mentions describe him as not quite used to living in a military post.
A centurion is in charge of multiple people and putting him there with very little experience is setting him up for failure. Nevermind the fact he's skipping an entire rank.
Rick didn't even need to promote him to centurion to make the quest continue because hazel was standing right next to him. Hazel who both had the rank and at least a years experience at the camp.
Percy was there for a week and was only at the camp for 1.5-2 days. In combination with the rumors of him being Greek and his parentage nobody is electing him praetor.
Yes he has combat experience but Camp Jupiter doesn't know that. All they'd see was a better than average probatio who is smart.
Also being raised on a shield was never an actual way to become praetor and any political position in ancient Rome. It was a ceremonial thing used to establish legitimacy and seems to have started in the tribes outside Rome.
Jason going missing a few months after a major battle is going to set all of Camp on edge. Somebody should have been able to connect the dots between Jason going missing and Percy showing up carrying Jason's patron as well as recreating the original way the original Jason got Heras favor.
Rick fridged Gwen. He also gave us no reason to care for her death. Like even though its been a little since I read SoN honestly tell me something about Gwen other than how she died and how many years she was at Camp Jupiter.
Even looking at the Fandom wiki page for Gwen it doesn't even know if Gwen's a legacy or if she's a demigod or whose her divine relative.
Rick ruins the threat of the giants in this book. In TLH it took Jason, Piper, and Leo working together to defeat Enceladus and they couldn't defeat the king of the giants.
In SoN, Rick sidestep the giant in alaska despite having all the necessary things to set up the fight. Thanatos (a god) is there, there's a major sacrifice (most of franks lifeline) and there are demigods there yet Rick wrote in a loophole.
During the fight at Camp Jupiter, Percy solos that giant and only gets terminus help at the very end. Nevermind the fact that there were multiple cohorts that could have helped and the very nature of the 2nd great prophecy was that both camps needed to work together to defeat Gaia and the giants.
Setting up Octavian was very hamfisted and not at all smoothly. Like he's supposed to be this master manipulator yet he didn't get the very first step of blackmail was don't do it in front of people who are either are helping with the blackmail or who you are blackmailing.
Nevermind the fact that what Octavian is doing isn't blackmail. If you want to be charitable you could say what he's doing is just him being a politician (something very much set up during Percys first chat with Reyna) or if you want to be extremely negative is at best bribery. Which is a significantly less of a crime than blackmail.
He's described multiple times at not being impressive which makes it hard to take him seriously as a villian
Octavian also has no connection to Gaia which is what made the Titan war work, Luke and Kronos where working in tandem.
Speaking of Gaia, her plots also start making less sense after SoN. In MoA, the group tells the romans that Gaia was trying to start a war by blaming the greeks for kidnapping Juno.
Immediately after that, Gaia starts the war by blaming the greeks for firing onto New Rome. Unlike how Kronos had a new plot almost every single book.
#pjo hoo toa#camp jupiter#son of neptune#percy jackson#frank zhang#jason grace#rick riordan criticism#rick could have actually had the fauns do the attack since he accidentally det up all the nature gods and spirits siding with Gaia

What's the chance there's a camp jupiter member who doesn't believe in the Olympians.
Like obviously terminus and lupa are real they can see them with their own eyes but the Olympians?
Is there a small conspiracy theory group that believes the gods to be a mass hallucinationsl

Looking up the history of summer camps is fascinating because they only developed in the 1860s almost right after the Civil War began.
Meaning Chb is only 150 years old at best and that's assuming it was invented right after Gunn is credited for forming the first one.
Also that implies that CJ might have only changed their name during that earthquake in the early 1900s since Camp Jupiter isn't a summer camp and in fact more like a military posting.
The wolf house founder was only born about 10 years after the Civil war so when the two merged together into the roman demigods being sent there first is vague at best considering they've been being sent to Lupa seemingly since Camp Jupiter
Depending on how much the greeks and romans interacted during the Civil war (hate that bit of lore) its entirely possible that the Greeks took Roman practices to incorporate into the newly forming CHB.
We know that the greek camp did take some things from roman, either sources or directly idk. The story of how Medusa got turned into a Gorgon, the ophitaurus is first mentioned in ovids fasti, and Arachne being turned into a spider for the weaving thing are all roman versions.
Also, Clovis describing the roman gods as distant and more cruel is hilarious considering they had literally just had a civil war. Most of whom joined the titans side because of them believing the gods not caring and the Olympians not respecting minor gods and their kids
The cruel is especially ironic considering in the past it seemed like the greek gods were more willing to help for a sacrifice but in modern times most will not help unless they have something to gain. (See Ares in the story of how a son of Poseidon raped Ares daughter vs how Ares treats Clarisse)

How does the whole legacy thing work at CJ because while it makes sense to go demigod-> legacy what happens when its 2 demigods
If percy and annabeth had children in the future would they be legacies of both poseidon and Athena or would they have to choose cause I don't think they'd be happy being on equal footing. Both gods being very prideful and not liking each other
If they're forced to pick on how do they decide which one. Is it just by vibes and if the children like one parent more than the other
Or is it power based and if they show more water leanings then they're poseidon legacies but if they whatever Athena has they're Athena legacies
Does this affect the brand they're given? Are they allowed to customize the symbol at all to acknowledge both godly relatives or is it a strict binary
Is it possible for a legacy to get no powers and still be admitted into CJ. If a legacy doesn't go to CJ (or CHB since this is after the giant war) is this were clear sighted mortals come from
