Jacob Sharp- Mipso Mandolin
In an interview with http://musicdruthers.com/ in Nov. of 2013, explained his start with music, having a mandolin for two years prior to getting into bluegrass music.
“ I’m not from a musical family but my older brother played and was better than me, so that was obviously a turn off and a motivation to keep broadening musically. But the common thread that brought me to music was the ability to connect with people via a song – songs take personal experiences and thoughts and freeze them in time or space, from all different types of places and times, present day or in the future – and they help you recognize that common thread around the human experience.
I was into going to live shows first and I saw its ability to bring people in and there are holy moments during shows that I love to craft when I’m performing. I also love songwriting – what I try to do is take a really personal moment or emotion or experience and figure out a way to turn it around and express it in a way that people can identify with.”
After meeting Joseph in High school at 18 years of age, and keeping in touch throughout college. The two wrote music independently and would continually share music. Getting together with Wood Robinson for a bluegrass concert/BBQ and fundraiser, later they found themselves performing more together and making their first album together.  Eventually to add Libby Rodenbugh to complete the group and expanding to the four-part harmonies Mipso is known for.
Charismatic and modest in personality, this mandolin playing member of Mipso plays more than one role in the band. In addition to Mandolin, Jacob had no previous experience but quickly picked up the managerial and booking tasks for Mipso.
When asked about this in a 2013 interview, Jacob shares his experiences and exemplifies his skills as a growing artist and taking on the roles Mipso needs. “ “I think we all have come to terms with our own understanding of music and music we like in an age where genres are less important than they were. They are still really important terms for publicity before a show or how you talk about a new band that you’re liking to your friends and certainly… We just hope it’s good music and it’s music we really care about and it’s really reflective of who we are as individuals, both musically and outside of it.”
Check out more Mipso at Baur’s Listening Lounge live on Sunday, July 19th at 8pm and get more info/tickets at http://baursmagic.com/mipso/

Joseph Terrell
This North Carolina guitarist for the band Mipso helped plant the seed for Mipso, a Bluegrass band whose four part harmonies are as flavorful as the songs they perform.
“My grandma taught me guitar first when I was in middle school on a lot of old bluegrass and country songs. I remember the first song I learned was “Tom Dooley”, the great, old North Carolina song popularized by Doc Watson. There was a lot of bluegrass in my family—I have uncles that play bluegrass—so it was a deep, early influence for me. But I fell in love with music, I think, listening to a lot of the great songwriters and bands from the 70′s like Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and I’m a huge Stevie Wonder fan. I think there is a lot of be learned from songwriting and just in general from a lot of those classics and it’s still what I think about a lot.”
Joseph first formed Mipso Trio with Jacob Sharp and Wood Robinson to form the band for a BBQ and Bluegrass fundraiser concert. It wasn’t until later that the band would make an album, and add a member-Libby Rodenbough.
Joseph met Jacob at 18 in high school and kept in touch while in school and writing independently while in college at UNC. Joseph also met Wood through a mutual friend to form a funk-rock cover band uniquely titled “Funkasaurus Rex.”
As the band’s songwriting gardener, Joseph writes songs and brings them to the band to arrange and mold to the Mipso sound. Winner of Merle Fest’s annual Chris Austin Songwriting Contest in 2014 for the General category, Joseph’s work with Jacob, Libby, and Wood keeps Mipso on the progressive Bluegrass scene.
“I love bluegrass and I know enough about bluegrass to understand that we’re not a strict bluegrass band. If someone wants to use it to describe us, I think that’s fine because it does describe some of the stuff that we do, but it’s not all that we do.”
See Joseph and the rest of Mipso Live at Baur’s Sunday, July, 19th at 8pm.

“TCM” is the newest member of the Revelers, though no stranger to fans as he’s featured on the debut record and has been guesting with the band at live shows since the beginning.
The newest member to the Revelers is “TCM” or The Chris Miller, saxophonist extraordinaire and prominent soloist in the Louisiana music scene. Recently featured with bands such as Mike & Ruthy (The Mammmals), the Andrew & Noah Band (Great Bear Trio), and AC Newman (The New Pornographers).
TCM’s popularity and leading performances in the Cajun scene has brought him reputation to be among the best. Blake Miller-  accordion and acoustic guitar
Tumblr media
The Revelers were begun in 2010 when the ghost of Dewey Balfa came to Blake Miller in a dream and told him he had been chosen to carry the torch.
Blake Miller (accordion, fiddle, voice) is currently one of the most prolific composers of original French Cajun music and grandson of well known accordion builder Larry Miller.
Being from the small town of Iota, Louisiana, Blake had been emerged in Cajun music and culture his whole life. He acquired the skills to write songs, fluently speak French, and earned a degree in Francophone studies from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, all while  founding the popular young Cajun band The Pine Leaf Boys, and became a member of the premiere Louisiana roots band The Red Stick Ramblers.
As a founding member of The Red Stick Ramblers, he and other members of the The Red stick Ramblers announced they would be moving on, Some of the band’s members continued with Blake to form the band The Revelers, that we love today.
He has also served stints in just about every other cajun/creole band of note including Balfa Toujours ,Les Malfecteurs and Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole bringing his strong cultural identity and accomplished musicianship to the world.
The Revelers were begun in 2010 when the ghost of Dewey Balfa came to Blake Miller in a dream and told him he had been chosen to carry the torch.
The Revelers have been named “The Best Thing to come out of Louisiana in Recent History” by the Cajun Creole Culture Preservation International.

Chas Justus -Guitarist for The Revelers
Guitarist Chas Justus, multi-instrumentalist Daniel Coolik  and bass player Eric Frey  and longtime collaborator Chris Miller who  joined the band full-time in January 2013 make up the rest of this incredible band.
Chas Justus was born in Memphis, Tennessee. “ He plays with a confidence and diversity that belies his young age being able to seamlessly switch from any of the numerous blues styles he’s mastered to country jazz and the Southwest Louisiana guitar styles that he has fallen in love with.”
Because he has lent his talents to numerous albums from the Louisiana music scene, his songs have been  on artists’ albums such as  Linda Ronstadt and Ann Savoy’s Grammy Nominated Adieu False Heart.
Chas frequently writes about his journeys with The Revelers in a blog/journal which can be found at http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/therevelers/updates/51052
The “individualistic guitar playing, singing, and songwriting [of] mark Chas Justus as one of the next Southern troubadours with a new song that sounds refreshingly old” is the best way to describe this artist that fuels The Revelers and any of the groups he plays with.
This Sunday, June 28th at 8pm Chas and his band The Revelers will be performing live at the Baur’s stage and will be sure to fuel dancing on your feet.

Ron Sexsmith - Live at Baur’s Review
Generous and Beautifully Crafted Songs Spanning A Twenty Year Career Showcased in Solo Performance
Last Thursday night, June 11th, Singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith presented 20 songs from his 14 studios albums including from his latest album “Carousel One” at Baur’s Listening Lounge. He developed a strong connection with his audience beginning with the gorgeous “Well Enough Alone” followed by the new rocker “Get Away Car” from the new album. Accompanying himself on guitar for the first set he promised to come back to play on Baur’s gorgeous Steinway grand piano and he made good on this promise following an intermission.
Beginning with the haunting “Gold In Them Hills” Sexsmith claimed that he loved playing piano but that the piano did not love him. Clearly not the case he continued with two unforgettable renditions of “This Is How I Know” and “Tomorrow In Her Eyes” - two of his most beautiful love songs. He then launched into his well known and oft covered “Brandy Alexander” on the piano before getting back to the guitar.
Generous with his feelings, and prolific with his compositions - Sexsmith is a courageous artist who as other icons such as Brian Wilson bare all in their art – which is songwriting. His ethereal and distinctive voice also give meaning and personality to the songs – each one a gem.
With guitar in hand and humorous introductions at his own expense, Ron charmed the audience who were clearly enthralled by his performance and maintained an almost intense attention and quiet in the room during the entire set. Baur’s atmosphere provided the intimate setting that suited Ron well and showcased his talent as “the songwriters' songwriter” of the music world. Standouts from the final set included two more songs from Carousel One “Sun's Coming Out” and the encore closer “Sure As The Sky” as well as Sexsmith classics - “Secret Heart” and “Love Shines” which he also performed on the piano for his first encore.
Absent from Denver since 2003 when he opened for Coldplay, this was Sexsmith's first Denver appearance in over a decade and his brand of crafted songs, delivered personally and intimately has been sorely missing here. Let's hope that this is the beginning of a beautiful new relationship for Ron with the Denver audience. Thanks to Baur's and Music Appreciation Society for reminding us of the power and beauty of Sexsmith’s artistic contribution to the musical landscape. While a huge presence in Canada and Europe, Ron is not nearly as well know here in Colorado – that we hope will be changing. Those lucky enough to attend the special film screening Wednesday at the SIE Film Center of the documentary about Ron entitled “LOVE SHINES” also had the opportunity to visit with this most generous artist and learn more about his craft from him in person. Thanks Ron for your generosity - We hope to see and hear even more from Sexsmith in coming years.
