Considering I’m on a massive Iliad jag at present, I want to delve into something related and beautiful and obscure: a poem by the rather unknown poet John Frederick Freeman (18180-1929) entitled “Hector”. Freeman was an insurance man by trade who wrote by night, and was good friends with the renowned Edward Thomas (a personal favourite) and Walter de la Mare. Few today now know Freeman or his work, and little is available online about him. But he was a gifted poet, and I hope you enjoy his “Hector” for its elegant imagery, quiet passion and flowing enjambement :)
He’s a beaut 😭🔥💦 honestly, I have not forgotten about my fan art idea 👀
Think…Eric Bana’s Hector…as Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth 🧐🫣🤌🏻❤️🔥
Hector but make it Medieval.
Expect some kind of art on this theme in the near-ish future, via my @g-m-kaye account 🫠 I am thinking…about this.
Context? I am simultaneously knee deep in a Troy (2004) Hector jag, re-reading the Iliad and re-reading TROTK: just got to the part where Prince Imrahil not only leads Gondor’s forces against the enemy at Pelennor because the House of the Stewards is in disarray (aka Denethor is a twat) … but he also saves Eowyn’s life by being the only badass in the room to actually notice she’s still breathing when they cart her and Theoden off on biers.
My Lord Imrahil has that honourable-Prince-who-gets-shit-done-and-is-unreasonably-handsome vibe going on. Just like a certain Trojan Prince I happen to adore with all my heart 😭
One of my main motivations to carry on with a WIP Elladan/OC fic (besides the lovely request from @g-m-kaye that prompted it), is that I am dying for the opportunity to fancast Richard Madden and Sebastian Stan as Elrond's twin sons--Richard as Elladan and Sebastian as Elrohir. Two gorgeous and talented actors with Tolkien elf-worthy faces, separate persons who coincidentally look very much alike (in certain angles).
There isn't much to this post, other than this lovely photo evidence and a small opening snippet to prove I actually DO have a (young) Elladan and Elrohir WIP brewing:
Elladan still did not understand why they had to make the journey out of the valley without their horses. He and his brother had never traveled this far away from home on foot before, which perhaps gave credence to Glorfindel’s teasing that Lord Elrond’s sons were growing up overly attached to their steeds. And so he kept any complaints behind tightly pressed lips, and discreetly nudged Elrohir every time he sensed his twin succumbing to his own impatience with a stifled sigh or groan.

Thank you for saying it like it is. Bloody Dwarves istg
Book!Thranduil really was like:
Thranduil: *catches dwarves, a race his people isn’t that friendly with, trespassing on their land during a celebration* why are y’all infiltrating our territory?
Dwarves: fuck you
Thranduil: alright, imma put you in the time-out corner until you’re ready to talk.
Several days and 1 dragon later
Dwarves: even thought we screwed the humans over, got many of them killed, destroyed their homes, and could have potentially destroyed even more because we awoke a dragon and did not lift our arms an inch to fight it, we will not share a dime of our treasure with you!
Humans: fuck you give us some money! At this point, we should just kill you and take it all ourselves for all the grief you’ve caused us!
Thranduil: jesus fucking christ-
Thranduil: NO ONE’S KILLING ANYONE FOR MONEY
Thranduil: Let’s calm down, children. We can talk this out like grown adults.
Bilbo: *tries to manage a truce between both sides*
