Leserunde zu "Love Tangle - Steve & Thomas: Awakening" von Adrian Schönknecht

Das Buch ist interessant geschrieben - einen großen Teil des Inhalts kann man schon aus dem Rückentext entnehmen. Die Charaktere entwickeln sich im Laufe des Buches weiter, es gibt einen Durchbruch im Leben beider Protagonisten. Es mangelt definitiv nicht an Handlung. Obwohl die Hauptstoryline eine Liebesgeschichte ist, werden viele gesellschaftlich brisante Themen angeschnitten. Dazu gehören Coming Out, Homophobie in Alltag und Sport, sexuelle Belästigung, Stigmatisierung und Geschlechterrollen. Dafür ist die Ratio von Erotikszenen und Handlung vor allem gegen Anfang des Buches mehr zu Ersterem und am Ende eher zu Letzterem hin geneigt. Es ist ein gutes Buch.

Wonderlands - Laura Miller

Ein tolles Werk, das die Highlights der fantastischen und prä-fantastischen Literatur in sich vereint. Jedem Buch ist ein Untergliederungspunkt gewidmet, in dem die Handlung des Buches, der Hintergrund dazu und einige Illustrationen gezeigt werden. Geordnet sind die einzelnen Bücher nach Erscheinungsjahren bzw. literarischen Epochen. Beginnend bei alten Mythen und Legenden, wie etwa der Edda oder dem Gigalmesch-Epos, geht es über in Erzählungen über Wissenschaft und Romantik (z.B. Nibelungensaga, der Zauberer von Oz), in das goldene Zeitalter der Fantasy (Peter Pan, Der kleine Prinz), die neue Weltordnung (Narnia, Das letzte Einhorn, 1984) und das Computerzeitalter (Game of Thrones, Panem) Zusammen ergeben die Abhandlungen ein sehr lehrreiches Gesamtwerk mit Einblicken in Bücher und Erzählungen, die man bei weitem nicht alle vorher schon kannte.

Das Buch ist gut und verständlich geschrieben und sehr schön illustriert. So ist es etwas für jüngere und ältere Leser. Die einzelnen Abhandlungen sind eher sachlich gehalten.

Ein Muss für alle, die sich für Literaturgeschichte interessieren und ein gutes Einstiegswerk für alle Leser, die schon immer einmal wissen wollten, worauf bestimmte Referenzen sich beziehen.

This piece of goodness I found via kindle unlimited, though it was not an recommendation and I really needed to look for it. The extra work was definitely worth it! I already had a thing for Arthur, Merlin and all Camelot-related things, so I was thrilled at the prospect of reading another novel on the topic. The telling is very emotional and solid, even though it can be a bit  confusing at times. I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know the characters better. I feel that the setting helps creating a cosy athmosphere wherein the characters exist. The existence of this closed sphere allowed the author to focus on the main characters very naturally and made them all the deeper. At points, the punctuation confused me with what I took as missing commas, but it was still easily understandable

The Brothers Grime series is a favourite of mine. As in his other books, Z.A. Maxfield creates an interesting storyline and in-depth-characters. I also like the style, but I would always recommend a look into the book for potential buyers. In this series, I liked the first and last book best. It was a pleasure to read the series and accompany the characters in the whole of 3 books. The development can be felt through the lines and the story always goes on ;)

An Arresting Ride: A Survivors Find Love Novel (English Edition) - Lissa Kasey

I got this book from kindle unlimited. It was a pleasure to read. This is one of the few books I got from this genre that was not all about sex. Beautifully told, nice for a change.

The Foxhole Court: Volume 1 (All for the Game) - Nora Sakavic

When you have been running all your life, it´s hard to stop even for a second. Neil Josten spent the majority of his life in hiding. Hiding from his father, his father´s cronies and boss. All the same, his talent for sports presents a liability - especially since it lead to his discovery as an up-and-rising Exy player, making him rise up from the anonymity he so desperately needs. This book´s story is as captivating in its own right as it is beautifully told. I spent a few waking hours last night reading it while I should have been sleeping to be fit the next day. I am an avid reader, but it has been quite some time since I read a book this good. At the same time, it is available for free, which is somewhat of a travesty. I would have gladly paid. Must-read!

“Spukalarm in der Schokofabrik” Mascha Matysiak

Es handelt sich hierbei um eine sehr schönes Kinderbuch, das sich meiner Meinung nach auch gut zum Vorlesen eignet. Allerdings sind im Buch auch hübsche Bilder drinnen, über die sich jedes Kind freuen würde, also ist das gemeinsame Lesen wohl die beste Lösung.

Das Buch ist gut geschrieben und dem Zielpublikum angepasst; also keine zu langen oder verschachtelten Sätze. Die Protagonistin ist sympathisch und die Abenteuer spannend. Klara hat Eigenschaften, die sicher so manchem Kind bekannt vorkommen werden, und auch ihre Eltern und Freunde sind empathisch geschrieben. Das Buch hat mich das eine oder andere Mal zum Schmunzeln gebracht und meiner Nichte (4 Jahre) gut gefallen. Die Geschichte ist nicht zu lang, sodass sich auch die Kleinen ohne Mühe bis ans Ende konzentrieren können.

“Beast Changers -  Im Bann der Eiswölfe” Amie Kaufmann

Dieses Buch lockt mit einem tollen Cover. Passend dazu ist auch die Geschichte sehr gut geschrieben. Von Anfang an ist dieses Buch spannend geschrieben. Man ist sofort mitten in der Handlung drin. Die Zwillinge sind Charaktere, mit denen man gut mitfiebern kann. Die Welt ist auch relativ gut ausgearbeitet dafür, dass man als Leser mit recht wenigen Informationen auskommen muss. Es gibt einfach zu begreifende Hintergrundfakten, die der Zielgruppe durchaus angemessen entgegen kommen. Die Grundeinteilung ist auch einfach. Es gibt Drachen- und Wolfswandler, die sich gegenüber stehen. Es könnte also quasi so schön schwarz und weiß sein - wenn da nicht diese verflixte Sache wäre, dass alle auch "nur" Menschen sind... Die Geschichte ist sehr schön und bietet genau das richtige Maß an Aufregung.

Indie Game Spotlight: Foregone

Welcome back to another Indie Game Spotlight! This week we’re covering Foregone, a fluid action platformer with RPG elements and a subtle narrative. Players battle through dangerous foes and epic boss encounters to uncover the secrets of the past. Count us in! We interviewed Dino Dvorabic (Game Designer), Damir Slogar (Lead Game Designer), Jordan Reif (Producer), Dan Rickard (Art Director), and James Riehl (Art Lead) all about Foregone and their various contributions to the game. Read on!

You’ve mentioned in previous interviews that the game is inspired by Dead Cells, Diablo, and Dark Souls. Are there any other major influences?

Jordan: On the design and production front, we take inspiration from a lot of games both 2D and 3D. A majority of the team here plays games from similar genres in their free time, so bringing quality examples to lean on comes pretty naturally to most of us.

James: We encourage the creative and design teams to toss everything onto the table when it comes to ideas. Foregone is a mix of action and the macabre. The library of influences is endless, and it’s not just games—it’s Saturday morning cartoons, music, and movies that play their part as well. When we review our concepts and get a positive reaction from the team and other departments, we know we’re on the right track.

How does Foregone set itself apart from other combat-focused action platformers?

Jordan: When trying to set our combat apart, it’s less about reinventing the wheel than it is refining it. Without giving too much away, the systems we’re using in-game allow us to create a lot of cool 3D effects in a 2D environment. That, combined with unique weapons and weapon modification systems, will allow the combat to stand out by looking, behaving and feeling really good—without straying too far from what you’d expect from a 2D platformer.

How were you able to render the characters in 3D, yet still keep a pixelated art style?

Dan: We’ve tackled the art of Foregone with a hybrid approach, treating 3D modelling as more of a means to an end in regards to creating 2D art. Nearly all of the environment art in the game has been concepted and modelled in 3D to start with. It then goes through a series of texture bakes and image editing, transforming it into a multi-pass texture that has colour, normals, opacity, glow, etc., and that works nicely with our in-game dynamic lighting. Our characters are actually fully 3D animated characters that have been textured and then rendered in Unity via camera scripts to achieve a pixelated look. In order to be approved, a final look goes through a series of review processes which ensure legibility, color contrast between character and environment, and overall appeal via strong silhouettes.

Without spoiling the game, what is the story behind our protagonist?

Dino: She is part of a select group of super-soldiers who have been granted the title of Arbiter. During the war, they were feared for their combat prowess, and one alone was often enough to secure a heavily-armed key location. When the war ended unexpectedly, Arbiters were relegated to a law enforcement role. They are now sent in when a situation is deemed too high-risk for a regular taskforce. Our game takes place at the beginning of one of these missions.

Where can we wishlist Foregone? What platforms will it be available on?

Jordan: The game can currently be wishlisted on Steam. As more channels for wishlisting and conversations open up, we’ll be sure to share those as well. As for platforms, we’re mainly focused on bringing the early access to PC right now, but we fully intend on delivering console experiences as the game comes closer to a full product.

Damir: Yes, we’ll be announcing any updates on platforms and consoles on our social channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram), so keep an eye out for those.

Immer kommt mir das Leben dazwischen - Kathrin Schrocke

Das Buch geht schon mal gut los: Karls toter Opa rät ihm im Traum, die Schule zu schmeißen - und, noch viel wichtiger, YouTube-Star zu werden. Klingt nach einem soliden Rat, oder? Leider empfindet das nicht nur seine Mutter, die Neurowissenschaftlerin, nicht so.

Karl ist erst in der siebten Klasse, bekommt aber auf seinem Weg in den Ruhm reichlich Steine in den Weg gelegt. Das ist eindeutig der Teil, der das Buch sehr lesenswert macht. Außerdem ist Karl fest von sich und seiner Vision überzeugt, herrlich stur und unrealistisch. Kurz gesagt: Der Alptraum aller Eltern. Immerhin ist er nicht der Einzige, der die Aufmerksamkeit seiner Eltern auf sich zieht, entschließt sich doch seine Oma, mit ihren 66 Jahren noch unter die Hippies zu gehen.

Das Buch ist sehr amüsant zu lesen. Man muss es einfach mit einer Brise Humor nehmen. Ich kann mir gut vorstellen, dass die eigentliche Zielgruppe daran auch ihren Spaß hat. Der Klappentext bringt den Inhalt schon gut rüber. Es ist durch und durch verrückt.
