Fascinated by the idea that the sides all have various pain tolerances and different things that can hurt them varying based on what they represent. Like Logan is almost invincible because of his realistic nature, Patton is also pretty tough because of how grounded and steadfast he is, Janus is actually stronger that he seems because of his confidence and reserve, the twins have surprisingly low pain tolerances because Roman is a "fragile ego" and Remus has no real basis to protect himself with. I think Virgil would be the worst, because of his irrational nature, he just reacts.
That could explain why Logan seems to bounce back from death and how Patton recovers from being hit in the face so quickly, but Roman gets easily knocked out and put out of commission and Remus doesn't instantly recover from being stabbed in the eye. There's nothing to base Janus and Virgil on, I'm just spitballing.

Random Janus headcanon but he has a lisp when speaking the truth
Like he's completely capable of not lying but doesn't think the others would take him seriously, worse that they'd make fun of him for it and he'd lose all credibility with Thomas
Remus sometimes uses this to drag him down a bit when he gets to savior complex-y and egotistical to remind him that he's just as flawed as the rest of them

Random Remus headcanon I don't know where to put so I'm gonna tell the void (aka Tumblr). This is based on the idea that I have that Remus being a jackass that scares everyone is a front to keep himself safe and that he acted like an older sibling to Virgil.
Remus took to humming random tunes (and sometimes just random notes) before Virgil left so they wouldn't be frightened by him, as he was much more likely to do so then Janus, and could locate him easier if they were freaking out or panicing.
Sometimes after Virgil left he'd catch himself doing it subconsciously and gets really frustrated as it ruins some of his pranks or jumpscares (it actually make him kinda depressed but Janus never asks and he's not gonna say it unprompted).

I love sanders sides because it is, fundamentally, the story of a man learning to love and accept all the different parts of himself, but all the parts of himself are gay and stupid and he is also gay and stupid

I'm going to sound crazy but HEAR ME OUT
Logan is Orange
Like not in a "oh Orange is a part of Logan a similar way to the sides being a part of Thomas" I mean Logan IS Orange in the way you are your future/past self
Logan is already an oddity as a secondary blue seeing as we have every other color of the rainbow but he is also one of the only sides with a single function/job: Janus is Deceit/selfcare, Patton is Morality/emotion, Roman is Creativity/the ego, Virgil is Anxiety/instincts (could also be interpreted as bravery), Remus is Intrusive Thoughts (or trauma)/creativity because we know him and Roman share this spot it still counts as a secondary function to me. Logan is an outlier here as his only known function is Logic (unless I'm missing something).
I don't know what I think Logans secondary function is going to be but I think it's going to be related to his anger in some way (maybe it's Anger but I don't believe that because anytime Logan has gotten angry it's been for a reason). Another thing to note this that he might be using being emotionless and blue as a cover for a less desirable function that's tied to Orange.
My theory is that one of the big twists is Logan becoming Orange and taking up a secondary function that forces Thomas to pay more attention to him so he's not being ignored anymore.

Yes, this. More of this please!
Not only is he a really interesting take on religious trauma he is very well written for it too. (Cue the long ass rant about Remus because he is my favorite character and one I relate to a lot.)
He makes Patton (and therefore Thomas) specifically very uncomfortable with the way he represents everything that's "wrong" with them from a religious perspective, the "dirty and unholy" look he gives is enough to make them want him to leave. He doesn't need to do anything for them to be afraid of his presence but the more instinctual and logical sides of him are for the most part unbothered by his presence (More on that at the bottom).
To focus on his look for a moment, him being the opposite in looks to Roman isn't just to differentiate them but also because Patton and Thomas see Roman and his Disney prince style as safe and allowed distipe his open gayness as the Disney princes are depicted like historical princes where many of the royal families claim to royalty is their connection to god. Remus on the other hand is unkempt and dark, his blacks a stark contrast to Romans white something more fitting of a demon or villain (going to toss a mention of the eye on his shoulder here because I don't know where else to put it). This demon imagery comes through much more clearly when Remus gets agitated as the space around him gets darker and his eyes become bloodshot. It's also in the choices made for his makeup, the dark purple around his eyes give the effect of him constantly having two blackeye's while Roman is untouched despite his kightly status and frequent fights with swords.
It's also worked into the way he speaks! During his introduction song he makes plenty of references to popular Bible stories that Thomas likely heard often growing up like The Garden of Eden. He also mentions that Thomas isn't "sick", while this can be interpreted a number of ways it comes off to me like what a Christian says to someone they view as sinful calling them sick as a way to mean disgusting. He later loops back to The Garden of Eden by using Janus as the Devil and calling himself the "ugliness within" which is an awesome way to show how Thomas' upbring affected Remus as well.
Stepping away from the more blaten religious symbolism for a moment Remus lack of control over what thoughts he speaks can also be tied back to religion. One idea that has been slowly becoming more and more common (and may have actually been quite popular before, it's midnight and I'm not looking into that rn) is that as long as you don't act or speak of your "sinful thought" it's not a sin, Remus don't have this control and therefore "sins" though simply voicing whatever is rattling around in his brain.
Now for his relation to others outside of Patton and Thomas. (I'm not including Janus because there's been very little on screen interactions between the two that weren't related to something other than messing with the others.)
While yes Virgil is uncomfortable with Remus' presence I belive that has a lot more to do with their complicated past and Pattons discomfort then his own as he interacts with Remus just fine in the Christmas special where they act like to friends that know how to push each other's buttons, though I am aware that those aren't exactly canon. Even in Remus' introduction video Virgil not wanting Remus there could be chalked up to not wanting to be exposed as having been one of the "Dark Sides" as his response at first isn't fear but instead to sigh like he doesn't want to be there for this shit show.
In addition Logan getting mad at his isn't because of what he does directly but more the fact Logan was already upset at Thomas and Remus used this to his benefit, him being the one to do so is more convince than a byproduct of Remus himself.
Roman's issue with Remus come from him being another creativity and not what he actually does or says more that he's competition for Thomas' attention and approval. Their banter comes off similar to Remus and Virgil's where its more poking fun at each other. The only time Roman has an issue with what Remus is is after Janus' comment on them being similar but it's more about Thomas' reaction to that then Remus.
I'm probably forgetting a lot but I'm really tired so this is all you get for now.
Remus sanders is genuinely such an interesting perception of the outcome of religious trauma and/or trauma in general.
He’s such an uncomfortable character but that’s what makes his symbolism fucking amazing. He’s SUPPOSED to make people uncomfortable.
God I love Remus Sanders so much, more people need to talk about Remus Sanders that’s not just ā€œhaha funny trashmanā€ (even tho that’s pretty valid too lol). /P
Remus Sanders.

it's so tragic that everybody's ignoring the most fun and based intrulogical dynamic concept in the world: logan using remus and his willingness to do weird shit as a form of experimenting. like just randomly going up to him like "i want you to drop acid and let me vivisect you so i can see what it does to your insides with my own two eyes" and remus is like "say no more, my safeword is squid"

ohhh I like that idea too but I would like to point out that Virgil has become significantly less violent and I don’t actually think they would want to hurt someone else
If you’re going for being a threat to others you’re looking to the twins (Roman being a magpie and being a hypocrite to early series Anxiety is a new headcannon I don’t think I’d ever have but it’s here now)
Hear me out hear me out
Spider paranoia because its web affects every part if your life...
BUT Crow Anxiety/Virgil because while yes they're an omen of death that's not all they are and wings represent freedom
And both Virgil and Thomas are more free from the grips of fear and panic
