Douma hadn’t learned many western dances even though he loved to dance. As his lover suggested, it really was easy to sway together, hand in hand and chest against chest. Or at least as close as one could be when you were nearly a head taller than the other. Still, Enmu seems to take his quick learning in stride. If he was bitter, it wasn’t showing.

Unlike their beginnings, Enmu is chatty. Flirtatious even, which was odd considering the distance that he’d placed between them what felt like so long ago. Maybe it would have been possible to learn a dance like this in a real cafe if only Douma had been more insistent. It just felt hard to believe then that his former little moon could have ever shared his real face with him then. 

It was pretty to imagine it though.

Some grand breakthrough so much sooner, enjoying each other’s company, getting to know each other in a way that mattered before the pressures of Muzan’s expectations came crashing in.

Maybe they could have danced like they are now but set to a much happier song. Enmu might have dressed him up on a summer night, showed him around his favorite hideaways and pointed out the people who owed him favors. He could have prattled about all the foods he’d tried before he were a demon; foods Douma had only heard about. His lifestyle rarely welcomed him into modernizing spaces. He was already a demon by the time he was old enough to care about exploring. Besides, there wasn’t much reason to go when a demon couldn’t even drink himself half blind.

Picturing themselves in a situation like that was probably breaking some social rule he wasn't aware of. The clothes they wear now would just be out of place. At least of what he assumed. Did the modern queers wear haori while they danced? He couldn’t really picture it. 

Or maybe he could.

He might not have been able to impress Enmu so early in their knowing each other, but hand embroidered threads were the evidence of the love between them. What sort of man would make matching outfits for the sake of someone he didn’t even like? Ones with glittering silver in a pattern of stars?
