PSA! TUMBLR IS SELLING YOUR ART TO AI COMPANIES
I've just been warned by a coworker who spoke to people inside Tumblr's parent company Automattic that they plan to sell all original images uploaded to this hellsite to Midjourney AI. Here is that warning in his words:
Tumblr media
In other words, your OC will be used to train AI without your consent, and your art style will be stolen by the AI.
DELETE YOUR ARTWORK NOW!!!
Spread this post so more artists will be aware of this blatant theft!

What in the AI f*ckery is PB up to again? There is 0 doubt the cover "art" for TDG was largely done with the help of AI tools.
Tumblr media
Let's start with Farah. There's a lot of similarities in the hair between the in-game sprite and the cover "art" portrait, so PB probably fed both images and text prompts to the generator. What gives away that it's AI generated though is that part of the hair on the right side is randomly swept back.
Tumblr media
Upon initial look Dante looks pretty genuine, a suave Latin-American actor, if not for the t-shirt changing to dress shirt. But if you zoom into the hair, it's definitely an AI generated smudgy mess.
Tumblr media
This young nerdy girl with deer-in-the-headlights look and piggy nose is supposed to be our deadpan doctor.
Tumblr media
I'm pretty sure I've seen this actress in an early 2000s black comedy movie. The hair color is totally wrong as well.
Tumblr media
People have complained for a long time that Choices (East) Asian characters don't look very ...Asian. Probably that's why this generic young K-pop starlet looks nothing like Astoria the influencer lady in TDG.
Tumblr media
The "artist" inserting the prompts should have clarified to AI that the COO has no gray hair or goatee. The pattern on his jacket doesn't even match his roleplay costume.
Tumblr media
PB just generated a random black guy and copy-pasted the toupée on his head, which is probably one of the only two non-AI generated objects in the cover "art".
Tumblr media
She is literally Sarah Hyland!
Tumblr media
Again, like with the influencer above, the AI isn't aware that generally Asian men in Choices look big and bulky, along with other western beauty ideals.
Please stop this bullsh*t, @playchoices! AI generated images are not art, it's blatant theft. In order to train their AI tools, companies steal billions of artwork made by hardworking and underpaid artists. I'm certain you wouldn't be happy either if someone used your stories and artwork without your consent for training their AI to then profit from it.

I can only guess there was always bitter resentment from entitled rich people towards the arts to fuel this general idea that artists are useless and a drain on society for most of the industrial age, only for them to turn around and pour way too much money into copying our skills using computers. Like wow we're so useless big tech is paying hundreds of millions to make mediocre approximations of what we do, yeah that totally makes sense.

god.
as an artist seeing all this AI support is getting really, really disheartening. especially when people use disabled artists like myself as an excuse.
I've spent years learning to do what I do, I've struggled my entire life just to be able to write a sentence, and struggled for 10 years just to be able to draw something half decent. And now you dare use my hardwork, my sweat, and my tears to justify your piece of shit theft technology?
go fuck yourselves.

Anyway if you are one of those people who genuinely believes ai creations are a good thing then that suggests you have never produced a creative work worth protecting from theft and corporate-sponsored irrelevance, ever, and/or that you do not give a shit about one. single. person who has. And that is so, so much sadder and says so much more about you than any stupid jokes you could make about creators trying to protect their work being Luddites or whatever.

The amount of "Hyper-Realistic" Commissions popping up in the FFXIV community that are v clearly AI paintovers is actually awful rn. Seeing a lot of it in rando discord servers and stuff. Research your commissoners before getting art done. Don't pay for AI. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Don't trust sketch processes that look too similar to the final product/look traced over. -Demand to see many WIPs that show the process between rendering, not just flat colors then sudden renders. -Be wary of varying style changes & ability between sketch and final product.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Be careful out there! Don't pay for scammers!

Hi friends,
I'm not sure why some people don't understand this, but using generative AI (ie midjourney and the like) to create images and audios of your fave fictional characters is wrong.
It's not only theft of artists whose style you are replicating, but it's also theft of the actors identity. Literally one of their major selling points is how they look and sound, and by feeding it into an AI engine, you are spreading one of their key money makers around for free.
Imagine if you worked really hard on a fic and someone just copied it with a few name changes and claimed it was theirs? Or worse, sold it for profit?
That is essentially what Generative AI is doing to art.
It's theft of intellectual property. There is no ethical use of this sort of AI.
Support human artists. Support human writers. Support humanity.

HEY YOU! DO YOU HATE AI?
The U.S. copyright office is seeking public comments on AI generated artwork and copyright law. BASICALLY that means that they're asking for everyday American people to tell them how they feel about how copyright law should handle AI.
AO3 explains it better than I could:
Tumblr media
SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Go tell the U.S. copyright office that AI devs should legally require consent for training their models and that AI generated works should be non-copyrightable!

The irony of an AI user telling people not to use the images they generated because it took “time and dedication” to create them…
Now you know how the artists whose artwork* has been fed into your little plagiarism machine feel.
*artwork that I guarantee took more time and dedication and skill than it took you to type a bunch of prompts
