i learned about Tim Wong who successfully and singlehandedly repopulated the rare California Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly in San Francisco. In the past few years, he’s cultivated more than 200 pipevine plants (their only food source) and gives thousands of caterpillars to his local Botanical Garden (x)

Okay, gonna give a tl;dr BRIEF OVERVIEW SNAPSHOT, with unfortunately not a lot of recs bc I have failed in actually reading in a significant capacity for her character 😭

Alysia was introduced as Babs’ roommate during Simone’s n52 Batgirl run (with which I’ve heard ymmv, have yet to read myself, tbh not looking forward to it, but it’s something that I’m determined to read for myself). From what I understand she’s set up as a civilian foil for Babs bc Alysia comes out to her as a trans woman (something something, superhero IDs are inherently queer something something). She’s shown up sporadically in bat-books since that time. Most notably in last year’s Pride issue iirc? (Nope looked it up, it was ‘22’s! I remember enjoying the story overall!) my first intro to her was actually in Bombshells (which is its own mixed bag, but was def formative for me Really Getting Into Comics & sticking with them) She was one of the bat-girls in it and just 😭😭😭💕💕💕 ahhh all of the batgirls were so CUTE THEIR LITTLE BASEBALL UNIFORMS GET ME!!!!

I’m very *marge potato meme* think she’s neat! & with most of the things I have seen with her, she’s very much written like most civilian friends to the batfam, which is nice in that she’s not like. Treated badly (FROM WHAT IVE READ, DONT @ ME OR SPOIL ME YALL IF SHE HAS BAD MOMENTS. LEMME READ IT FOR MYSELF) by being associated with the bats. It v much also depends on the writer obvsly, but I always appreciate when civilian characters just like… Friend Figures & give our heroes that sense of normalcy to balance out the Usual Hero Insanity.

We need more trans main characters in Gen too, but I appreciate her as one of those stepping stones in rep. God knows we didn’t have much in the way of trans characters even just 10-15yrs ago and it’s like… seeing how many more pop up over time it’s just!!!!!!!!!!

Indigenous here is a political designation which describes a people groups relationship with colonialism - ie. Saami people are an indigenous group but Finnish/Swedish/Norwegian/Russian people are not, even though they are both genetically from the same countries- because of the groups different relationships with colonialism.

important ! In recent years especially this year I’ve noticed a lot that the internet language picked up so many Islamic phrases and, from a muslim perspective, it makes the internet a little more welcoming. the thing is, a lot of the time with Islamic phrases you have to be careful about when and where to say them they hold their own weight and demand their own respect so here is a list explaining each phrase and some notes about it.

In sha allah

It means “ If God wills “. Muslims say it because we’re unaware of what future holds it’s actually blasphemous to claim to know the future, so saying so means “ If it’s the will of god it will happen if not it won’t “ and you’d say it about future events. side note, it’s also a polite way of saying No. for example, someone asks you to do something and you say in sha allah. Technically you’re not saying yes or no, and if it’s not in god’s will it won’t happen.

Ma sha allah

It means “ this is what god intended “ and it’s a compliment. Saying so is like saying WOW! But it’s also kind of a prayer of protection? If I see someone with pretty hair I should say “ Ma sha allah your hair is very pretty “ the ma sha allah protects the person from the evil eye. By saying that I’m also saying I’m not jealous I’m genuinely enamored and I don’t wish any harm to go to it.

Astagfurullah

it means “ to god I repent “ or “ from god I seek forgiveness” it’s usually used when you make a mistake but people also use it when they see something bad or when they want to avoid saying something bad. Like once my card refused to work and I’d say that so I won’t say any curse words and to calm down my anger

wallah/wallahi

okay this one is important. This one shouldn’t be used so lightly. It means “ by god’s name “ and it’s basically swearing in Allah’s name. You are only supposed to say it if you genuinely mean what you’re saying. It’s such a heavy word that I only say it very rarely and if you say it and don’t follow up on what you said you have to fast for three days as repentance.

One more note is that with the name of Allah you should also be careful it’s not supposed to be written on papers that’ll get stepped on or lightly used in art because it also has its own weight it’s regarded heavily. Like even in home decorations it should be elevated and not overshadowed. If I have to throw away a paper I have to sit down and color over the name of Allah or burn the papers so it won’t get thrown in trash.

another note is that those phrases aren’t Muslim exclusive. Some Arab non-Muslims use them as well. This is only my explanation from a Muslim perspective.

i made an evanescence graphics archive website!

i love finding old web graphics and i love evanescence so i combined the two back in december and created archivescence! i'm always adding onto it and trying to find sources for all of them (graphics with sources are linked back to their respective websites/owners) and there's also a page dedicated to other websites about the band! i think i'll add a page for old interviews/articles eventually too ^_^

This was a banner on their official website, on their tour and bio pages! It must've been from The Open Door era, I posted it to my deviantArt in 2007 so it had to have been from before then. (And it has the thorny curls in the top corner from that album's logo.)
