"I don't know, I don't see myself ever getting into a kdrama"
- me up until circa 10 days ago, being a complete clown
So. This show has slightly taken over my life. In that wonderful way some shows do where you start it and it's like, mm, cute, yeah I like this, and then you find yourself at 2AM being unable to stop watching and/or crying.
It's also one of those rare shows where I absolutely LOVE all the protagonists, they're all so wonderful in different ways. All tragic of course because happiness? we don't know her. I love all realtionships and interactions between them, platonic as well as romantic - sunny and eun tak? iconic older sister dynamic; grim reaper and eun tak? so soft it hurts; goblin and grim repear? what do I even say.
But these two, man. These two own my heart now, it's theirs. I've had a soft spot for Sunny from the start, she is *exactly* my type of character, fake hard exterior but actually the softest and smartest one around. The grim reaper I have to admit I started off unsure why people loved him so much and now I would 100% have his babies, so there's that.
And when they're together... there is not one single scene where they are together that doesn't make me want to scream. Their chemestry was insane from the start, when they started adding in the backstory I was completely done for. Was absolutely not expecting it all to be SO tragic til the very end. The way Sunny sacrificed both of their happiness really as a punishment to him and kind of herself too and also probably a way to make sure he could one day be forgiven and be able to live out a normal life. she's so smart I tell you! I love sunny. And the grim reaper, and EUN TAK, that girl is pure sunshine and imma cry just thinking of the finale.
And of course I once again found myself vidding a TS song because what else is new. I had another one, a really good one but then every time I heard this song I couldn't help but picture these two tragic idiots clutching their hearts so I dids it.

me: I'm going to edit emisue to ivy
me: makes this instead
okay but replace every "water fountain" with "orchard" and this is their song, I will not take questions at this time.
I did my big stream of consciousness thoughts on dickinson s2 in my emily video description (self promo: https://youtu.be/9zOBRJkvB3A) but I'll spare two words about emily and sue because I love them and I hate that I'm not 100% happy with their happy ending.
I get what they were trying to do with their characters and their relationship this season, and I think they mostly succeeded, too. I just think they took it a bit too far for it to be realistically and satisfyingly torn down in one single scene, even a great one like the one we got.
We needed just a couple more moments, some glances, a line here or there as any indication of Sue's feelings. I get that she's trying to repress them but even then, she wouldn't be able to control herself so completely 24/7. there was that heartbreaking scene of her folding into herself after a fight with austin, and that scene with mary - which odd choice but ok - but they didn't feel like enough, or specific enough. and yes, she does constantly tell Emily she's a genius and deserves to be published but that too doesn't really feel personal enough.
As far as Emily goes, I think her journey this season actually makes sense. Even the back and forth between wanting to be published and dreading it, as irritating as it may seem at times, feels true to her character, who's completely guided by her ever fleeting emotions. Plus it's like the biggest decision she'll ever have to make, so I think it's fair for her to mull it over for a bit.
I'm not a fan of the aggression at the end of the fight scene. Again, I understand the intentions behind it, but it felt oddly ooc for me. I don't see Emily being physically violent in any situation, not in that way.
All in all I *loved* the fight scene and Emily and Sue finally talking candidly about everything that's been going on, I just wish there had been a clearer development of it throughout the season. This argument basically mirrored their 201 scene. And I know they've been mostly apart for nine episodes but I wish we got to see them explore their feelings individually a little more - again, mostly Sue.
...yeah I lied and gave you another stream of consciousness. it is what it is. enjoy!

spoilers for all of wandavision.
I hads to. I just hads to.
I, like 90% of Earth, am absolutely obsessed with this show. I always loved wanda's character, granted there sadly wasn't too much to love in the films as she wasn't much in them but the potential. And that potential was fully explored in this gem of a show. Plus the sitcom format? Exploring a different era each episode (for the most part)? The Office one YOU GUYS. But all of them really, chef's kiss.
Not to mention the INCREDIBLE writing both structurally and in dialogue, I know I don't even need to tell you which quotes I'm referring to - I'm still not over Elizabeth Olsen's soft and broken "I can't feel you". And that's the other thing, the performances. Excuse you Elizabeth, Paul and Kathryn, how dare you make me laugh and cry, often simultaneously, every single week for two months? The last few episodes especially, what a trip.
I wasn't even planning on watching the falcon and the winter soldier but dammit marvel guys, you got me. I'm in the mood now, I'll watch it all.
And yes I am most definitely tempting fate editing yet another TS song. But this one was just so so perfect, how could I not. I saw people pointing out how perfect it is for the line "it's all fun and games til somebody loses their mind", and it is, but truly all of it is insanely accurate. "I reached for you but you were gone"? I am hit, in the feels.
I would go so far as to say it fits them both in a more literal sense of Wonderland being Westview and Wanda creating it and being stuck in it in a pretend happy life, but also their happy life together before Infinity War, where they had a semblance of normality they knew couldn't last. What a pair people. What. A. Pair.
And Wanda owns me now more than ever so wherever they go with her character, I'm down for the ride, let's go.

so much to say, where to begin?
I LOVE this song so incredibly much. when I first heard it, it was a magical experience. I was bicycling at night coming home from a marina concert (concerts, remember those?) and I had to stop because the music was so distracting I was afraid I'd crash my bike.
at first listen I thought it was about billie's struggle with fame - turns out it was darker than that, but I think it still works for emily's journey this season.
and what a season, am i rite?
so much controversy around it. as a libra avoider of conflict and confrontation, being in the fandom during it was... an experience. I personally enjoyed this season. not as much as the first one, there were a few things here and there that I feel could have been explored further or tied in better, but in general the whole concept of fame and being seen is one so intriguing and complex and timely.
I'm not a public figure in any way but even I struggle with the idea of social media and my personal information, photos, thoughts being potentially accessible to anyone. that's what emily's going through. and that is huge. and it's scary. I'm not going to get all philosophical, but the question of being seen but not being able to control how your image is used vs not being seen at all and therefore potentially not existing... that is A LOT.
which is why I think emily's back and forth on the matter this season, as frustrating as it was to witness, especially with a weekly release, makes sense. I also loved all he callbacks and self-references in the last couple episodes, I so do appreciate a round, well written story. the moral of the story, in the show at least, seems to be the only thing that matters is that those who love you see you. this being sue, of course (I'll get to her in a sec) but also austin, who literally sees her in 2x08, and even lavinia and her mum supporting her as best they can in the spa episode.
sue. shy little sue. I really love sue. yeah, present tense, what the heck. and I do see what they intended to do with her character arc. I like it, even. it was always a bit ambiguous, what she was feeling. of course it was clear she loved emily to some extent, but they never really got into that and I for one am really glad they fully commited to it. I do wish there were just a couple more small moments to hint that this was where we were going, and I do wish they made her a little bit less obnoxious. she is so gratuitously mean to austin.
and austin, that's my other thing. that emisue scene in the finale was *incredible*, and I mean the fight scene. they were finally completely honest with each other with emily not holding anything back because of how much she loves sue as she usually does and sue breaking down her many walls to finally reveal her true feelings. and the sexy times were both a great reunion to a season - and for them, a year - of being apart and also a payoff to the major theme of the season. emily does in the end only need sue to see her, fame be damned.
keeping all of this in mind, I do think as good as that scene was (give hailee steinfeld all the awards, and ella too because she was just as incredible), there's still so much they could have covered. and I do hope they will in s3. namely, the whole austin of it all. emily was comforting him because of sue cheating on him and not loving him just the day before. also the whole sam thing and sue going to see mary, it all doesn't sit completely right with me.
anyway, I still LOVE the show overall, it's got just such a unique tone and style. I cannot wait to see where they take us next.

I binged this whole miniseries in two days - and by the way, what a great thing miniseries are. 7-10 episodes to tell a whole story, no filler episodes, no unnecessary cliffhangers, we love to see it. I for some reason thought this show would take a way darker turn than it did but really, it did not need to.
What a marvel it is, capturing and keeping the audience's attention by being simply a show about chess. It isn't just that of course, it's a show about loneliness, addiction, obsession, trauma, family and lack there of. All in one single character, Beth Harmon.
Another thing I kept expecting was for them to delve deeper into her past, do lenghthier flashbacks and explanations, but I'm glad they haven't. We really only experience Beth's life, and her past, with her. We get glimpses of memories when she thinks of them, and that's it, but we can piece everything together with what we have already. Her mother was brilliant, but mentally instable. She keeps everyone away for fear of losing them, drowns her sorrows and celebrates her victories with alcohol insead.
She is so obssessed with chess and so used to living in her own head, up until she is adopted and for some time after that she doesn't even awknowledge that there's a world beyond hers. It's just a very interesting show centered around a character study which could have been deeper but also works the way it is, kind of letting the audience fill in the blanks and just follow along this crazy ride with beth herself.
This song seemed pretty accurate for the show and the character but I'm lazy and the editing is packed so I cut it.
