Hey there! I'm in a bit of a bind representation wise and hoping you could give me/point me in the direction of recommendations.
I'm Black(Nigerian) and (non SAM)ace/aroace* and I loved the Silt Verses and trying to find something to give me that same high with an aroace poc main character. Doesn't even have to be Black, I'll take asian, arab, native etc. Most of the aroace mcs I've come across are either white, or "raceless project HC on" voiced by white VAs and I still love them but eh you know?
I'm looking for Horror(especially cosmic/lovecraftian, body horror, occult horror), darker/gritty, sci-fi & fantasy. If possible minimal romance like TSV
So tldr; BIPOC podcast with an adult BIPOC aroace mc(not wanting to get too ambitious here mayhaps even multiple aroaces 👀) of the horror/darker sff variety...and Yes I'm already on the InCo train😅.
Pls feel free to tag in any other blogs to help out . This Blog/event has lead me to so many cool bipoc led ADs already, thank you!🙏🏾🤞🏾
*specifically looking for aroaces, love my bi/het/gay/grey/demi ace & aro sibs but it's not what i'm looking for 😖
There's a wonderful list here by acepodcastweek, though this isn't a list of protagonists, just characters in general, who are ace and bipoc. I believe some of them are protagonists or recurring characters, I'm not sure about all of them.
I can't think of any off the top of my head that fits aroace and poc main character, but I'd like to ping @acepodcastweek if you have any in mind, as well as @podcast-bookclub just for audio drama knowledge in general!
And of course, if anyone has any suggestions please reblog with them or put them in the comments!

As we get ready to release Episode 4 of MERCY, we'd like to introduce our featured friend of the show: Project Gnosis by the wonderful MQ Media!
Project Gnosis is a full-cast BIPOC-led audio drama, set in the year 2030 CE. The Earth faces tensions in the realms of the mundane and the supernatural. Organizations and individuals have answered the call to keep the balance of their world safe by preventing extremists, imperialists, and abominations from throwing the world into chaos. Follow Fei, an advanced form of jiangshi, and Riz, a werehorse vigilante, as they face a world of conflict waged by those who seek the ruin of all.
I started off as a reader of the Project Gnosis webtoon, which is available HERE and HERE, before discovering the show and quickly becoming a huge fan! I have also been collaborating with them on the show for an upcoming episode (thank you Matt!!), and I really believe they deserve all the recognition in the world for the empowering and diverse stories they are telling with PG. And really, it's just a helluva good time all the way through!
They are currently releasing season two, so this is a fantastic time to jump into the show and check out season one in its entirety.
Check out their trailer below!

Hi!
I 100% agree with your post about audio drama having a White Podcast problem, but I was wondering what counts as a "BIPOC audio drama" for you? Is it any audio drama with a main character of color, or does it have to be written/created by a person of color, or does your definition include something else entirely?
(I'm really sorry if this is a rude thing to ask and you don't have to answer if you don't want to. I was just super curious about your perspective on this.)
Hey there! My personal view is that it either has to be created by a BIPOC creator or have multiple BIPOC characters with main or major roles (with multiple BIPOC VAs). It could also be considered a BIPOC show if the main character is BIPOC and the BIPOC VA plays a central role in developing the series or character, even if the show is largely White.
I don't think it counts if the VA of a BIPOC character is White, though I'm not the kind of person who takes issue with White VAs playing BIPOC characters. I like when people can play characters that don't look like them.*
*So long as BIPOC VAs can play White characters AND we don't consider the show a "BIPOC show" if no actual BIPOC are involved in its creation. And of course if the creators aren't racist assholes or doing bad racial stereotypes in VA 😅
The question would be if one would consider a show BIPOC if the creators are BIPOC but there are no explicitly BIPOC characters. I would still personally consider it a BIPOC show, but that's just me.
The question I tend to ask is "does this center a BIPOC voice or experience?" Even if the writer is White the answer could still be yes if the VA is a major influence in how the character is portrayed or written.
An easy one is was this show created or written by a BIPOC creator? But if not, another question I ask is does this show hire and pay, or spotlight and celebrate, BIPOC characters and VAs? Even if the writer or creator is White, if that show's paying a ton of BIPOC VAs and taking their perspectives into account, I'm happy to call it a BIPOC show.
There are of course, exceptions, and arguments to be made. Not everyone would agree with me that a White writer could create a BIPOC show even if the VA or VAs are BIPOC.
Maybe some BIPOC creators don't consider their works "BIPOC shows" if they had no intention of representation, even if I think it counts. Some BIPOC creators might make "White shows" in their mind.
"White" is also a fluid word when you go international and some people are considered White in some ways and non White in others.
All that being said, I try to be fair minded yet tough when I advocate for myself and others as a BIPOC creator. My goal is inclusivity rather than exclusivity, so I'll always shout out BIPOC representation in audio drama whether it's creators behind the scenes, VAs, individual (canon) BIPOC characters or an entire show.

@hinaypod has been shadowbanned for unknown reasons - either bad actors, or an auto flag, or because we post links as part of our podcast promotion. Or perhaps the Palestine posts, who knows.
Either way, while we wait for Tumblr to respond to our ticket, it's the perfect time to tell everyone to follow the @ above if you want to follow a Magnus Archives inspired, Rusty Quill Network official podcast about a Filipina immigrant dealing with supernatural threats in Toronto caused by cursed objects and immortal rich occultists from the 1920s who fuel their magic off violent death.
It's about how supernatural horror will never trump the horrors of real life fascism, and about how love, especially queer love, can change the very fabric of reality.
The protagonist is a 5 foot tall cheerful, warm and sunny Filipina woman with magic powers and personal trauma that's ten times worse than your average grumpy podcast man. The main villain is a faceless, nameless, powerful immortal threat in a fine suit, only known as The Benefactor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's got that delicious, TMA inspired analog sound (from phone calls and tape recordings) and spooky standalone stories mixed with an overarching plot that a lot of our listeners have made murder boards and spreadsheets for 👀 Theory crafting is popular in this fandom. Some episodes are so scary that people can't listen to them in the dark, but others have described it as their comfort podcast. We have more sound effects and music than base TMA; it adds to the horror, but we also like to include old jazz and classical music depending on the moment and character.
It's female led with a BIPOC majority main cast, and it's so overwhelmingly queer that we have a token cishet couple (an immortal Instagram influencer and her drippy bloody monster husband who crawls on the walls).
The protagonists are queer, the villains are queer, and we've got love stories both wholesome and toxic, happy and tragic. Old men in love, young men in love, young and old men and women in love, women in love in the 1920s, women in love in the 1940s, men who love women then men, women who love women than men, gay betrayals, lesbian tragedies, trans seductions of 150 year old former villains, NB romances in-between taking over the world.... Romantic surgeries and beheadings...
And milk tea 🧋
We're not the kind of podcast that'll ever get as huge as The Magnus Archives, but that's not really what we're aiming for. We're just aiming to reach people who would resonate with our message and love Hi Nay as much as we do!
So give us a follow and a listen! You can find us on Rusty Quill (they approached us, not the other way around 😉✨) and on almost all the major socials, and of course, wherever you listen to podcasts.
