In the letter, Comer and Mace referenced a report from the Anti-Defamation League, in which they allege that Wikipedia coordinated a campaign to manipulate entries related to the War in Gaza, which they allege advanced “antisemitic and anti-Israel information.”
"As our research showed earlier this year, antisemitism and anti-Israel bias on Wikipedia are a significant problem. We welcome the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform opening an investigation into this issue and thank Rep. James Comer for his leadership effort to address this hate," in a statement released by ADL on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

In southwestern Kenya more than 2.6 million years ago, ancient humans wielded an array of stone tools—known collectively as the Oldowan toolkit—to pound plant material and carve up large prey such as hippopotamuses. These durable and versatile tools were crafted from special stone materials collected up to eight miles away, according to new research led by scientists at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, Cleveland Museum of Natural History and Queens College. Their findings, published Aug. 15 in the journal Science Advances, push back the earliest known evidence of ancient humans transporting resources over long distances by some 600,000 years. “People often focus on the tools themselves, but the real innovation of the Oldowan may actually be the transport of resources from one place to another,” said Rick Potts, the senior author of the study and the National Museum of Natural History’s Peter Buck Chair of Human Origins. “The knowledge and intent to bring stone material to rich food sources was apparently an integral part of toolmaking behavior at the outset of the Oldowan.”
[...]
While many nonhuman primates carry food and rocks, they only utilize materials that are nearby. Some, like chimpanzees, are known to transport stones over short distances. But the hominins at Nyayanga appear to have consistently procured material from over six miles away. The ability to transport resources is a major milestone in human evolution. According to Potts, it exhibits ancient hominins’ ability to plan ahead and assess the requirements for processing food. It also illustrates an ability to mentally map their environment and remember locations with high-quality rocks. “The mental maps of the oldest known hominins to persistently make stone tools well surpassed their immediate surroundings, even surpassing a few miles,” Potts said.

I THINK WE CAN AGREE THAT THE PAST IS OVER
RARELY IS THE QUESTION ASKED, IS OUR CHILDREN LEARNING?
OUR ENEMIES NEVER STOP THINKING OF NEW WAYS TO HARM OUR COUNTRY AND OUR PEOPLE, AND NEITHER DO WE
YOU TEACH A CHILD TO LEARN, AND HE OR HER WILL BE ABLE TO PASS A LITERACY TEST
A HUMAN BEING AND A FISH CAN COEXIST PEACEFULLY
FOOL ME ONCE, SHAME ON…SHAME ON YOU. FOOL ME… YOU CANT GET FOOLED AGAIN.
DON’T MISUNDERESTIMATE ME

I hate, hate, HATE the term “affordable housing.” I hate that we’ve normalized it. I hate that we just accept that the majority of housing, a basic human right, is unaffordable to much of the population. Housing should be affordable as a baseline. If rich people want to add arcades and gold-plated hot tubs on top so be it, but everyone, everyone, regardless of income level, should have access to a clean, comfortable home with enough light and space to make life worth living.

A lot of people make fun of how “get divorced/breakup” is the go-to response for most r/RelationshipAdvice and r/AmITheAsshole? posts but if your relationship gets to the point where you feel like you can’t talk to anyone IRL and have to ask for advice and opinions online, there is something severely wrong. Sometimes the subjects say it themselves, “I can’t ask my friends and family about this because they already hate my partner and I don’t want to give them ammunition.” abusive relationships isolate the person at the center, make them feel like they constantly have to be on the defensive for their shitty partner. Which is why these people will post about their partner putting them in the most diabolical situation imaginable and then spend their entire afternoon defending them with their whole chest and replying to every comment. All you can do is reiterate “This is not normal behavior. Your partner is not a good person with a couple of flaws, they’re making your life worse. Breakup.” even as a neutral third party who doesn’t know either of these people in real life.

A lot of people date someone who fetishizes them because they think their ability to perfectly satisfy their partners arousal and desire specifically for the dynamic they have together will be more of an incentive for them to stay loyal. They think they’ve got them under a spell and might even feel empowered and in control bc of it but they look at you like you’re a favorite toy of theirs. Everything else is in your head. Who has just 1 toy?
