Okay it won’t let me respond to your comments on my post so imma just reply this way.
Firstly, don’t worry, I’m not gaslighting myself.
I’m not a ‘Rhysand stan’ because I’m not a child and can admit the horrible things he did.
I’m not a ‘Tamlin stan’ because I’m not a child and can admit the horrible things he did.
I don’t actually think either of them ever set out to intentionally hurt Feyre, but both of them did.
What I meant was that it’s feels good when you feel like you have a choice when that was previously ripped away from you. I put up a pretty heartfelt post about this and used my own experiences to explain my feelings about it. There’s a passage in ACOWAR where it says ‘My choice. It had always been my choice with him’. Not giving Rhys a free pass, I just think that’s a good feeling to have. Now that I’ve really thought about it (which you’ve prompted me to do so, like, thanks), it’s not really about the guys. It’s about Feyre, her character development and her autonomy. It’s her narrative and her story, after all.
The male characters in ACOTAR are kind of all toxic in their own ways, but I’m not so blind as to disregard the good things and the way they reflect on real life for the sake of picking a team.
Rhysand stans who say they hate Tamlin but love Rhysand because he gives Feyre agency are people with zero media literacy and also people who are so impressionable and naive that they let themselves gaslit into thinking he’s a good person after all the horrific things he’s done, it’s kinda nauseating and pitiful.

I’ve seen a lot of people criticise the male protagonists in ACOTAR, particularly Rhys, for being problematic in their treatment of female protagonists. To a large extent, these are totally valid points, but I wanna throw in my two cents bc this is important to me.
I’m someone who, kinda like Feyre with Tamlin, wasn’t exactly r@ped, but was put in a position where it wasn’t really my choice anymore. More like something I had to suffer through to avoid guilting, or arguments, or silent treatment. I had to cut off friends because he was jealous and I didn’t want to deal with the fighting, and I developed an eating disorder partly because of his comments about my weight.
The way Feyre’s narrative talks about Rhys and about how everything is ALWAYS her choice with him DOES mean something. Might be something you have to go through to understand (and I really, really hope you never do), but the fact that she CAN have her own space, and CAN say no without fear of the consequences means EVERYTHING when you’ve been in a position where that wasn’t the case

Another day of waking up and not being married to Nicola Coughlan. When will this torture cease?

People really don’t realise the effect their words can have.
I have a very similar body type to Nicola Coughlan, can’t lose weight due to a medical condition, and it’s resulted in an eating disorder. Nicola Coughlan’s portrayal of Penelope and her recent interviews have made me feel better than I have in years, like we can be leading ladies too. Comments like this are an easy way to make people like me feel like we’ve been stabbed in the gut.
People need to do better, it’s 2024 man
Today I literally saw someone say :
"Romance with a Chubby ? What next ? I predict that Benedict will have an Asian or a trans woman as his next love interest ! No, I'm kidding, I don't watch that crap."
I don't know what annoys me most about this comment. Fatphobia, racism, transphobia ? Or all 3 at the same time ?
A woman of strong build cannot be entitled to a beautiful romance according to this person ? An Asian woman and a trans woman either ? No because clearly, this person's concern is definitely not historical consistency (and those who continue to complain about it look really stupid because the series has very clearly assumed to be an uchronia since season 1), otherwise the description linked to Penelope's weight would not have been part of it.
What's the point of commenting on something like this under the season 3 trailer, frankly ?!
And for the record, yes, I hope Benedict's romantic interest Sophie is played by an Asian woman.
Other than that, I loved the trailer. Seeing Kanthony more in love than ever and Polin finally getting together is going to be an absolute delight.

I’m crying???
Sally hears about Annabeth long before meeting her—everything from casual “Annabeth emailed me!” to long disjointed explanations of their quest to Hades, how she saved his life, how amazing and smart she is. It’s obvious how much Percy cares about his new friend from how he talks about her. When he prints out the photo Annabeth emailed him and sticks it on his binder, Sally smiles knowingly to herself. Percy's never had a crush before.
When she finally meets Annabeth, the girl in front of her doesn’t match the descriptions Percy gave at all. The Annabeth from his stories is fearless and unstoppable, the smartest person in the room and she knows it. The Annabeth that Sally first meets is quiet and reserved and almost overly polite. She expected Percy was a bit biased, but not this biased.
Later, she needles it out of Percy: how Annabeth’s father and step-mother treated her like a burden, how she ran away when she was 7. Sally decides right then and there that Annabeth is going to be hers. She tells stories of her own brash youth, she extends all the care in the world to this girl. She does everything in her power to hammer into Annabeth's head that she has a home with the Jacksons, that she will always be not just welcome, but wanted here.
Slowly but surely, Annabeth starts to believe it. Of course, Annabeth has always thought Sally was a good mom, has always envied Percy’s relationship with her. But it takes her awhile to realize that Sally’s unconditional love could ever extend to her—she’s never had a parent or parent figure like that before.
But they really bond when Percy goes missing.
Annabeth goes to Sally's apartment to tell her, clearly expecting Sally to get angry, to blame her. Instead, Sally wraps her up in a tight hug, and they cry together, and Sally invites her back again and again the entire time Percy is gone for tea and cookies and comfort. They talk for hours at a time, about Percy, about the search, of course, but also about Annabeth's schoolwork and her parents, about Paul, and Sally's writing career. In truth, Sally needs the comfort and support just as much as Annabeth, if not more. They get through those eight months together.
And one day, years in the future, Annabeth and Percy come over for dinner, all sly smiles and conspiratorial glances, clearly holding back news, until after dinner, when Annabeth beams and shows off the shiny new ring on her left hand.
"Sally--" Annabeth starts to say. Sally cuts her off with a shake of her head, eyes full of happy tears.
"Call me Mom."

Percy at ease
Tumblr media
Percy calm, but a little on edge
Tumblr media
Percy when mildly angry
Tumblr media
Friendly reminder that Percy jackson - our beloved silly adorable seaweed brain - is absolutely terrifying. When he’s angry, when he’s scared, when he’s on edge - he’s not warm and fuzzy.
No other character gets that reaction from people. Jason (the sweetie) is perceived as calm and in control, nico (our favorite self-outcasted outcast) is perceived as solemn and creepy, reyna (girlboss queen slay) is perceived as confident and assertive, and annabeth (our girl) is perceived as fierce, clever, and formidable. They are all intimidating to an extent.
But not like Percy. No. Becasue even when he’s at ease, he’s described as wild and disobedient. And when he’s not at ease, even if just little bit, he’s perceived as powerful, dangerous, and scary. Someone who NOBODY wants to mess with. Nobody even questions his power. One look from him has literal gangs running the other way. One look from him has Leo so scared that he’s literally shaking, and feeling the same innate fright and alarm that he does when jason summons an ear-piercing, earth-shaking, deadly bolt of lighting.
like… HELLO??? can we all just sit on that for a moment?? good lord
One angry look from percy has people thinking one thing: Run.
Percy is, canonically, the character that people find the most frightening and intimidating.
And unless he’s in a good mood - which you better hope he is - the reality is that most of us would be completely terrified of him if we met him.

I've seen a lot of bad faith critiques of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Genuinely, how do you expect a show to demonstrate internal monologues in a 3rd person narrative. You show it through dialogue, and suddenly, there's "too much talking." You dont show it enough, and "the kids are way too smart and jumping to conclusions without any reason." Im not saying these aren't valid criticisms by any means, but some people clearly wanted to hate this show before it even came out.

This is what I’m saying. It’s like people wanted to ruin the fun for everyone bc it wasn’t a copy+paste of the book. We won y’all 🙌
Thank God we got a renewal because everyone and their mama was trying to get it cancelled 😭, even so called “fans”

Okay no fuck you guys it is 2am and I am gonna fucking rant cuz, respectfully, some of y'all are being so dumb. Like i get that different opinions are valid but the opinions are wrong and they're fuckin annoying as shit. More than anything, the criticism of the tv show changing details from the story is starting to really fucking piss me off.
1) the book is told from Percy’s perspective - there is NO WAY of making an adaptation 100% faithful from that because you don’t have insight into when he starts noticing when something’s wrong. To me, going into it knowing that Aunty Em was Medusa or Crusty was Procrustus made so much more sense. Not just because it made sense for the audience but also because we got to see how the characters acted in that situation.
2) PLUS, Percy is the definition of unreliable narrator. We finally see this shit from outside his dumbass-12-year-old-boy brain
3) if i see one more fucking comment about the solstice deadline passing I am gonna start throwing shit. It ADDED A NEW DIMENSION. It made it seem like all their work up until that point had been hopeless which was SO POWERFUL and gave us real insight into Percy's fucking resilience. Fuck yall.
4) the pearls as well. Not being funny, but that was literally one of the greatest changes. Wanna know why, fucknuts? BECAUSE the story wasn't just from Percy's POV which meant that we got more of Sally's backstory w Poseidon which means it makes sense that he would want to save her. He loves her.
5) the story is nearly 20 years old. Let Rick update it and write it the way he wants to write it in 2024. (Prime example: Medusa = still a villain, but acknowledged as a victim)
6) ABOVE ALL, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT THIS ADAPTATION WAS STAYING TRUE TO THE CHARACTERS (which a certain film or two pointedly failed to do). The characters are why Rick wrote the book in the first place, giving his kids a place to feel seen in mainstream media and offering up really positive role models whilst he was at it. Percy is loyal, and determined, and kind, and brave. Annabeth is proud, and brilliantly intelligent, and strong, and independent. Grover is true, and just, and innocent, and good. If you all really can't see past changes that really didn't ultimately dramatically effect character development/more general plot progression then honestly i wonder what you ever thought you were gonna get out of it.
7) it’s Rick’s story. Let him do whatever the fuck he wants with the world he very kindly gifted to us. This was an excellent tv show, y’all are just bitter because it wasn’t copy+pasted from the book.

PLEASE THIS IS WHAT I AM SAYING AND I AM SO READY TO GO TO WAR FOR THIS SHOW
So somehow, I got to the side of tiktok that HATES the PJO series. I need to leave immediately.
It's driving me crazy because, yeah, obviously, it's not a completely faithful adaptation, but it's a really good one, and people are acting like it's the worst thing ever. Did they even see the movies?
