filling a gap mostly :3 i cant think of every potential definition for this (the two i can off the top of my head are "a (demi)bigender that changes upon kinshifts" and "a pair of (demi)kingenders between which someone is fluid") but anyone who feels they fit under it is welcome to use it :D

redesigned the simple symbol let's go

tidaline flag (normal and simplified symbol) and symbols (under cut)!

🌊 an alterhuman identity caused or influenced by bipolar, schizoaffective or cyclothymic disorder; any symptom or mood state can cause or influence a tidaline identity as long as you consider it directly related to bipolar, shchizoaffective or cyclothymia 🌊 from "tidal" (related to or affected by the tide) and "-ine" (suffix meaning like, of or pertaining to, of the nature of, etc.); coined after the fluid and cyclical nature of the tides and the way water has both positive and negative symbolism depending on context 🌊 tidaline identities can be called tidetypes

re: the term

"tidaline" works as both an adjective and a noun ("i'm tidaline" vs. "i am a tidaline"); the quality of being tidaline is called tidality

tidaline can be a standalone label or coexist with other labels; i.e. you can just be tidaline or your tidetypes can also count as endels, kintypes, etc. it's an umbrella term!

if you're considered in remission/are not actively experiencing symptoms but bipolar has/continues to significantly impact your identity, it still counts if you want to use the label!

with/as and voluntary/involuntary agnostic

re: the symbols

standard is the wave + eclipse graphic, simplified is the eclipse

see above regarding the relevance of waves to tidaline as a concept; the eclipse was chosen for similar reasons (duality, rising and setting, the sun and moon existing both separately and together, etc)

the colors pink, yellow, periwinkle and indigo in the standard were chosen to invoke the mad pride flag and represent mania and depression

redesigned the simplified one to be... simpler: the venn diagram is fairly self-explanatory, the star is the nonhumanity

re: the flag

the pink and yellow/warm stripes represent mania and hypomania, the indigo and blue/cool stripes represent depression, the middle purple represents mixed states, and the white represents mood equilibrium

the pink and purples were also chosen to invoke the mad pride flag

the flag's colors are generally patterned after a sunset on the ocean

made the pan one for a headmate and the rest out of sheer completionism lol. based on @/faerieology's lovely achilligirl flag obv

bipolar spectrum flag! (for anyone with bipolar i or ii, schizoaffective disorder, or cyclothymia)

we wanted to make something that was recognizable without being too busy and had colors that recognizably conveyed mania and depression as well as the emotional intensity that comes with them

elaboration on stripe meanings and blank version under the cut :3

each stripe has two meanings; the top and bottom stripes have meanings related to community and recovery and the middle four stripes relate to specific symptoms.

Yellow: Healing and diversity; healing in whatever way is best for you and the diversity within the bipolar spectrum (explicitly incl bipolar i and ii, bipolar due to another medical condition, schizoaffective bipolar type and cyclothymia)

Orange: Hypomania and rapid cycling

Hot pink: Mania and psychosis

Indigo: Major depressive and mixed states

Blue: Minor (subclinical) depressive states and comorbidities

Sky blue: Support and acceptance; each of these coming from both within and outside of the community and especially as a subset of the mad/neurodivergent/disabled communities

The :): / smile-frown is a common symbol of bipolar

the type green stages are incredibly blatant in-universe propaganda and each time they are taken literally on-wiki an angel loses their wings. that being said of course we constantly refer to ourselves as stage fours (semi-)ironically so we made some silly little flags about it

i know we basically don’t use this blog anymore but psa if you have any kind of archive-type blog that staff are introducing a new update over the next week that will functionally forcibly private your blog (i.e. put it on dash view only) if you’re using the default tumblr theme.
