Heyo, it's ya boy here. I've updated my prelaunch kickstarter page with info and a wider glimpse at the world of The Dark Star Series. It's a fantasy novel about a young assassin bonded to a draconic being as she gets pulled deeper into a city on the brink of civil war. We have everything you(or I) could ever want: dragons, magic, varied peoples and cultures, enemies to friends, shadowy cultists and light-blinded zealots, chemtech wielding druglords, and more :) Also when I'm not working on Starfire, I've been making a mildly unrelated Ttrpg! Should be posting some glimpses of that in the coming weeks.

It would mean the world to me even if you just check it out! My plan is to use every penny of the funds, if successful, to commission a good cover, maps, loads of art and sketches to be included in the book, and a separate, small lore/art book for the world. The funds will also be used for ordering copies to ship out to backers along with goodies, and any other project related costs. While I'll still publish Starfire and the art book someday if the Kickstarter fails, it would be delayed and not at all how I'd like to do it.

Heyo! My Kickstarter for Starfire: A Dark Star Novel, is launching on the 12th!(Because I have a thing about the number twelve). It would mean the world if you check it out or follow it, or support me when it does launch! You can check out my blog for a link to my Royal Road, where you can read some of the first edit of Starfire! I've slowed down there a bit, but now I have a backlog of chapters, so expect more to be uploaded soon.

To keep it short, I'm not in the best circumstances right now, and I wish I could've done what I'm planning to now, for my first book. This Kickstarter project will help me focus on writing, and let me actually release the book I envision. All funding goes towards getting a great cover image, including more sketches, concept art and maps within the book, professional editing(If I have enough), and to order copies of the paperback and hardcover to sign, then ship with goodies(like several stickers, buttons, exclusive art and even secret extras) to the backers of those specific tiers. While there are some aspects I need to work out, backers will get the ebook, paperback or hardcover a bit before everyone else.

On one hand, it would be extremely awesome if I somehow surpass my tiny goal of 350 dollars. The thought of actually being able to get together a fantastic cover, commission concept and character art, and even just sending out signed copies is exciting.

On the other hand, I'm not delusional, and I'm aware I may never even reach the goal. But if I do, it'll help me further my dreams of being an author. Regardless, reaching even just the base goal would allow me to get a decent cover, some art pieces, and send out a few signed copies, with anything left over going to the goodies I mentioned. I suppose I can do much more, depending on how much my project is backed, and I intend to be very involved with showing things off on social media, if this project is a success.

Idk if anyone cares about updates, but I'm doing this overly hopeful thing for Starfire with Kickstarter soon. In the hopes of funding cover art, sketches, signed copies and goodies to be sent out to backers, and more lol, but all for this book. I'll be updating once it gets approved and whatnot, and my goal isn't going to be large. I don't know if I'll have success in this, but it would be grand if it happened. Tumblr and TikTok will be where I start being more active, and check out my Royal Road, it's pinned!

Anyway, currently I'm writing some chapters involving serial killers, cruel inquisitors, more gang action and intrigue, and some enemy to friends stuff haha. I've slowed down a bit on royal road, in favor for getting a backlog, but I have a number of chapters I'll be uploading soon.

And if anyone's reading this....aaaa! Someone made fanart of Starbound, and it absolutely blew me away! I honestly didn't think that would happen, given my non-existent fanbase, and my first book not being a masterpiece but dang! It really inspired me to keep going, as I've been having some doubts lately.

Horror/Thriller/Paranormal/Etc. Readers!! Got a poll for ya!

I have SO many ideas for stories, but most are ones that I don't feel would be served well by a full-length novel. I've been debating collecting them as an anthology of short stories/flash fiction. They're all along the horror, thriller, mystery, paranormal vein.

My question is...

The Battle Veil

With no altercations between Floodlander humans and the lightning elves outside of myth, almost no accounts of elven combat doctrine exist. The most well-known dates back almost a century to the early reign of Empress Ash, where an extremely rare meeting between the elves and Floodlanders yielded some cultural study.

To aid with underwater sight and coordination, the eyes of lightning elves are bioluminescent, with black sclera and technicolour irises of any of countless different hues. The intensity of the glow is based on their state of alertness - a tired or bored elf's eyes barely light at all, while a panicked or enraged one's will shine almost bright enough to dazzle. This trait adds a new layer to elven body language, with a person's emotions readable by how their eyes shine; visors and other wavelength-specific eye coverings are common accessories to dim them and avoid causing a scene.

On the 3rd of February 4A09, an unprecedented international incident occurred when a construction team in the Flooding Sands unearthed an elven ruin beneath the mud of the Woodlots. In a now-famous act of diplomacy, Empress Ash made an open enquiry to the elves on how to approach this dilemma. Two days later, the High Divinator responded by sending a company of elven soldiers to perform an unknown function on the ruins; once complete, they invited the Imperial labourers to help dismantle it for repatriation in the Indigo Depths below. Members of the nascent gendarmerie supervised the work, and naturally, at least a few servicewomen on both sides intermingled during the week-long operation.

Even in decades past, elven military technology was leagues ahead of early-modern Floodlander humans', fielding plasma weaponry, energy shielding, and amphibious jet propulsion for navigating their submarine locale. To avoid hindering movement underwater, soldiers are equipped with lightweight combat armour, featuring full-coverage helmets and visors. These visors are transparent at most times, but when in conflict, they become opaque to fulfil the function of an ancient ceremonial headgear - the battle veil.

This one-way covering blocks almost all outgoing light, while letting incoming light pass normally; the elf can see clearly, but their face is obscured. As demonstrated in a human-elf blade spar on a particularly boring day, the battle veil is an intimidation tool which only an incensed elf's eye shine can penetrate, giving their countenance the appearance of ominous, disembodied glowing eyes. This effect is a proof of resolve - the more clearly one's irises breach the veil, the more alert and focused on victory one is. Dim eyes hidden by the veil, conversely, are a sign of concession and broken morale.

From an anonymous soldier's journal:

"The duel between Tpr. Welles and the masked assailant was the lengthiest of all. Clearly, Welles's becoming fatigued slowed her down as the fight went on for the better part of a minute, while the elf's movements only got faster and more ferocious. Inevitably, our woman was relieved of her sword and she yielded. Some booing came from the company once again.

But a servicewomen to my right, whom I will not identify, called a mocking name for the victor's race. This I will also not repeat. The elf's head shot around faster than a cannonball, and all we saw were a pair of glowing purple dots. Straight through the mask, like it weren't there. And each and every boot of the Empress stepped back in a moment of fear, mine too."

(Editor's note: I've gotten word that the Friend in Commerce is alive and... well, he's alive. The details seem sensitive, but I hope that's reassuring enough.)

Howdy pals, I'm doing a thing on royal road. Trying to get better at writing, release more stories before they're ready to publish, etc. I currently have some chapters of a sci-fi fantasy thing posted, and they should be approving my stuff for Starfire, the second Dark Star book, sometime today. Going forward I plan on consistently uploading a few chapters of each story every week, and at some point I'll add the other things I'm working on.

Also I'm doing this Royal Road thing. I currently have some chapters up for this sci-fi novella with a bit of horror and fantasy. This sort of thing is amazing to me. There were countless abandoned fics I loved...I hope some of them picked up writing again, even if just for themselves.

Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.

As I work more on the second Dark star book, and this other sci-fi novella which may just be a novel, I'm considering posting chapters to Royal Road, or something. Hopefully get a small reading base that way, outside of my middling attempts at advertising and free promotions.
