i don't know if this has been said before but hear me out..

laurent's veretian accent coming through when he says damen's name

damen being absolutely obsessed with the way laurent says his name

damen's heart giving a little twitch every time laurent says his name. it's softer, sweeter than damen is used to his name sounding. it's adorable. damen goes feral for it. multiple water pitchers were probably harmed bc of this

(and maybe other parts of him love it too. particularly when they're in bed and laurent is repeating his name over and over like a soft prayer. actual music to damen's ears)

fast forward to a little after they join their kingdoms and laurent's akielon has improved so much that he can now spot when his accent is wrong and fix it. the first time he says damen's name "correctly" damen is like did you just stab me??

he makes laurent promise not to change the way he says it. laurent listens, for the most part, except when damen pisses him off and he wants to be petty, then he says it so perfectly and precisely you'd think akielon is his first and only language. damen is convinced an angel loses its wings every time he does it

Think about it:

Only taking the literal meaning of words, having a special interest in mushrooms, experiencing sensory issues with iron, "Do not look them in the eye" is literally a safety rule (boy, I wish).

They also live by complex, unspoken rules of social etiquette that no outsider can figure out but are absolutely vital to them? Like "Never say thank you." "Don't eat their food." "Don't step inside the circle." Of course they become nasty if you break it, have you ever seen an autistic person who had their routine broken??

They also have problems with (or refuse to engage in) deception or sarcasm. Fae don't lie but they will twist your words exactly as you said them.

And my favourite one: Fae dancing in circles at midnight with hypnotizing repetitive motions. Sounds like stimming much?

They're just out there in the forest, info-dumping about mushrooms, refusing eye contact, following incomprehensible social logic that is actually very clear and rule-bound, and spiraling into rage because you stepped in the circle without asking.

Let fae be autistic.

I have just finished the Captive Prince trilogy, and then all the short stories.

I am in love. It is simply the best book series I've ever read, and I keep wanting more.
