i don’t think some of you get that they were both being selfish and making everything about them in that scene, and that’s okay!!! it’s okay because they’re grieving and grief is a selfish thing!!

buck never once even implied that he was the only person who lost bobby, but eddie heard that & made it about about himself because he feels guilty! eddie never even remotely suggested that buck didn’t do everything he could to save bobby, but buck heard that & made it about himself because he feels guilty!! they’re both drowning in guilt and in grief and they’re dealing with it in different ways so they feel lonely in that grief, but they are still the only people they can be truly honest and vulnerable with. they’re still who the other turns to, even if sometimes that looks a little bit messy and angry and intense.

at the heart of it, they are two desperately sad people who are absolutely riddled with guilt - eddie for feeling like he should have been there, and buck for feeling like he should have saved him - and they’re not quite sure how best to help each other.

The moment that Buck says “oh” and finally “I’m sorry” and Eddie just crumbles SHOWS that Eddie didn’t call him out to hurt him more, like why would he do that?!?! He just wanted Buck to understand, HE IS NOT ALONE!

'Cause you never asked what it was like. Waking up in the middle of the night to that news. Sitting alone in the dark. Trying to keep it together so I don't scare the crap out of my kid.

“Sorry I’m sad that Bobby died” was a snide remark responding to Eddie calling Buck out for clearly spiraling and not addressing his grief. Eddie had the right to set the record straight with Buck. Basically saying, “oh I’m sad, sorry his death is affecting me” implies his death isn’t really impacting Eddie. I would be angry too, they both lost Bobby and Eddie had to remind him of that. Hence him mentioning how Buck hasn’t even asked him how he’s doing yet and telling him about the night he found out. It’s not him being mean to Buck or threatening him or whatever people claim it is, he is reacting to Buck like a human WHO IS ALSO GRIEVING! FREE MY MAN! He and Buck are on the same side and he’s just trying to show him that. If anyone can get Buck to open up it’s Eddie, BECAUSE he calls him on his bullshit.

I don’t understand how people are so upset about the kitchen scene and are angry with Eddie. Like did we not all watch the same thing? It was an amazing scene, the shaking camera, the lightening, the fucking tension?! Buck coming in, pissed that Eddie hadn’t told him about the job in El Paso, and stomping around the kitchen. Obviously Eddie knows something is wrong, he knows Buck is already hurting enough. Not to mention, Eddie is at a crossroads. He doesn’t want to leave Buck or the 118 behind again, and him flying Christopher out was just another sign of that. He wants them all to be together again, everyone is grieving the changes and upset. Buck is lost right now, and the fear that Eddie is leaving again and that he has no idea when they’ll be together next is enough to push him over the edge. Him getting the groceries even though Eddie said he would… He doesn’t want to get used to relying on Eddie, he wants to prove he is capable of being alone because he’s always forced to be, he makes a statement just like when Eddie was moving initially, he wants to say “I’ll be fine without you, so just go”…. Eddie had to confront him about the subtle isolation strategies he has always used to avoid painful realities. He knows that Buck has been putting up a front and he calls him out. Eddie also had the right to confront him about not talking to him about his own experience with the grief. Buck has been avoiding these conversations because he knows he’ll fall apart further if he’s forced to reconcile with just how real this is to all of them. Eddie telling him about the phone call and trying not to wake Christopher or scare him put things into perspective for Buck. He was saying “I feel it too, I’m devastated and I blame myself too… we all do” and in his own way Buck NEEDED to hear this. Scolding him after his comment where he was trying to deflect is REALISTIC. Holding Buck accountable and calling out his obvious avoidance can feel harsh, but it’s tough love. It’s saying “I know you’re trying to push me away or make yourself feel more alone, but I won’t let you”. I cried so fucking hard watching their exchange because it was so raw. I believe that this interaction is extremely reflective of their characters and I’m glad they included it.

The only thing that could bring me peace in Bobby’s (ALLEGED) death, is Buck having Eddie to comfort him. Imagine a compilation of the 118 returning home after the events at the lab. Chimney reuniting with Maddie after barely escaping with his life, Hen seeing Karen, Denny, and Mara in the hospital after her lung is repaired, and Athena holding her kids as she grieves for her husband… then we assume Buck will have to cope with Bobby being presumed dead on his own, but Eddie is there waiting for him (maybe even Chris) and he just collapses into his arms. Another testament to him coming home to his family, and finally having his own loved ones waiting for him at home.
