Personalizing your journal: Making it YOU!

When it comes to journaling I believe your journal should be an accurate portrayal of your inner self. While writing is a crucial part of journaling, decorating your journal pages and cover is also CRUCIAL ( but not necessary ). Here's why. Expressing yourself creatively through your journal not only fosters your creative mind but it also allows you to showcase who you are not only with writing but with visuals too. even if your journal shall forever remain private, making it look pretty for your eyes is always fun!
But.. How exactly should you customize your journal? If you would like to add a little more to your journal here are some of my ideas that you can incorporate to bring to life your plain ol' moleskin ( or any notebook of course )
1. the cover
When you go to pick up your journal the first thing you see is the cover! Right now it may look like this..

But tell me is this an accurate portrayal of who you were while writing in this journal? the cover is plain and you are NOT plain! So, add a little *pizzazz* to it!

One of my favorite things about starting a fresh new journal is a plain cover, knowing that soon It'll be full with mementos, stickers, random words, and images. The photo you see above are my own journals that I personalize to my liking. Every journal cover you see describe my interests and who I was for the few months I wrote in that journal. I add images of artists I was obsessed with, movie posters from movies I watched, album covers, stickers that suit the journal itself, etc. There are SOO many things that you can to your journal cover here is some further inspiration for you! :

2. Lists, lists and more lists!
Writing lists in your journal can be a fun way to fill up those pages in your journal. And really there are an endless amounts of lists you could make. These simple little lists can really amp up your journal. If you need any ideas of lists to write in your journal here a few I typically make :
To-do lists for weekends, day, weekday, month, etc
Movies watched
Movies you want to watch
Summer bucket list
Wish-list
Music roundup ( songs you loved in a month)
Books read in a year
Books you want to read
Recipes
The possibilities are endless, seriously make a list about ANYTHING

3. Comic diary
While I've yet to do this. For a change try and make a little comic about a moment in your day. Can be something as minuscule as going to walk your dog. Instead of writing it out, draw it!

4. Decorate those pages!
What I mean is add stickers, washi tape, pictures, pressed flowers, wrappers, colors, drawings, song lyrics, etc. Anything that can describe your day or how you feel put it in the page.

5. Intro and conclusion page
I always love to start a new journal with an introduction. I essentially introduce myself to the journal I state my name, my age, current interests, what my goals are for the journal, and whatever may be going on in my life at the moment. Its sort of you greeting the new chapter of your life with your journal. But once you come to the end of the journal there's the conclusion page. I like to quickly highlight and summarize big events or revelations I made throughout the journal, reflect on accomplishments and officially say goodbye to the journal.

6. Colors, all the colors!
As opposed to writing in black pen or pencil in your journal, use different colored pens. I personally use a different colored pen each day in my journal to spruce it up! Choose colors that describe how you feel or simply colors that you think go well together.
7. Stash secret letters in your journal
This could be letters to your future self or letters to someone in specific. Write letters just to write them. Its nice to write something totally different than what you're used to in a journal. Address them to someone, and dump everything you mean to say to them but never actually will. Or write to your future self. Ask yourself questions, give all the details about your current life, and share you're goals to this other version of you.

8. Album reviews
This is something I do alongside my daily journal pages, off to the side I have a ting paragraph giving a review and a rating of an album I listened to that day. I find that this make my daily pages more interesting to look at and more fun for me!

9. Song lyrics
I do this on the very back of my journal. That weird space where there's no pages left but still an empty spot. I fill it with song lyrics from all my favorite songs during those months with the journal. (Also, if your journal has a little pocket fill it with even MORE lists or scraps of paper, store anything in there! )

For now.. that is all I have to share. But give it a try. Add something to your journal that describes who you are. Make your journal forever memorable and something you want to look back on!
XOXO, Tiff

You're life is a movie, here's a soundtrack to go alongside it ...

Like anyone I loveee a good movie but I especially love when that movie has an amazing soundtrack to go alongside it! I find myself listening to a movies soundtrack whenever and anywhere. Listening to that special soundtrack can make your day feel like you are in the movie. To add a little fun to your life here are my top 5 favorite movie soundtracks that are sure to raise your spirits and transport you to the world of film.
New Moon
Not only is New moon amazing in its own right (and in my opinion the best movie in the Twilight saga..) The soundtrack is killer!! From iconic songs in this album like Roslyn and Possibility. This soundtrack screams: dark fall nights in your room reading your vampire romance. You don't have to be a Twilight fan to enjoy this soundtrack, believe me if your into alternative, rock, indie music or looking for some music to fill your melancholic heart you will come to adore this album. The music is dark and filled with emotion right off the bat with the first song, "Meet me on the Equinox" by Death Cab for Cutie, its gothic, intense, and pulls you into the rest of the album with force. Those sad-mopey love songs and gothic rock is what makes up this album. Its all you need it!
2. (500) Days of summer
"I said I love the Smiths!" This iconic line from the movie summarizes the soundtrack. If you love the Smiths I'm more than sure you will also love the soundtrack. Two Smith songs are included in this mix (and one cover song from She&Him, which may I add sounds lovely!) The music is fun and full of hope but you also have your few that are mellow and calming. A blend of Indie and alternative tunes turned into a full story. As you listen you'll feel the triumphs and pains of loving another person.
3. Juno
This ones for all my whimsy and fun teen girls who were deemed "weird" and simply don't know what kind of girl they are! Sounds like you.. Then boy do I have a soundtrack for you! The Juno soundtrack is forever fun with twee-like music and silly lyrics. Artists included are Belle and Sebastian, The Kinks, The Velvet Underground and Kimya Dawson! The Juno soundtrack combines those feelings of being young and carefree into a perfect mix just for you.
4. Flipped
I'm a sucker for anything from the 50s especially 50s doo-wop tunes. This soundtrack is just that 50s music to fill your vintage heart! If your looking to get into more music from the decade this might just be the fit for you. It includes sappy love songs, upbeat tunes and songs that demand for you to get up and dance! (the music is seriously catchy) If you find yourself hopelessly in love with nothing to do live out your 50s teen life and listen to this soundtrack. (Who knows, by the end of it you may be buying saddle shoes and going to the malt shop with friends)
5. Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World
Loud music to rock out with!!! This garage rock / alt rock / indie soundtrack is for those ready to fight some evil exes and live life to the fullest. Okay, in all seriousness this is a solid indie rock soundtrack. Though the band "SexBob-Ombs" is a fictional band for the movie their sloppy raw (sometimes bad..) music style is unapologetically the sound of real garage rock bands. The entire soundtrack screams into life, including some real neat songs like Black Sheep by Metric ( *cough* *cough* my personal favorite) Prepare to get a little reckless and give it a listen!
HONORABLE MENTIONS ( There's just too many good soundtracks that deserve to get listened too I'm sorry..)
Twilight : I know I mentioned New Moon, but this soundtrack is also too good! Much more ROCK if you tell me with both Linkin Park and Paramore are included in the mix
Lady Bird : NO LYRICS, no issues. This instrumental album is perfect for visiting your hometown, reminiscing, and studying. Its quiet and homey.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind : Again mostly instrumental but this one is much more dream-like. I can't begin to describe this one simply will say fantasy-like at times..!
A Complete Unknown : You know I don't typically listen to cover songs, I always prefer the original but Timothee Chalamet does and incredible job singing Bob Dylan! (Also, of course Monica Barbaro splendid cover songs from Joan Baez!) You wont regret listening to this folk album in all its glory.
OKAY. I'm done for now. There you have it MOVIE SOUNDTRACKS to make your life seem like it's very own movie. I hope you give a listen to one of these and that they can give you a slice of joy to your day to day!!
XOXO, Tiff

Why you, yes YOU should journal..
You have probably tried journaling once in you're life, maybe thought about journaling or bought a pretty notebook but never found the motivation to open it. Im here to tell you NEED to journal. Im serious as an avid journaler this hobby has completly changed me for the better + its fun! Why wouldnt you want to have fun! So, heres why you should journal my top reasons WHY I do it and why you shoud too.
IT'S FUN!

Okay, okay, this reason may be a little too simple but all in all journaling can be fun if YOU make it FUN. I always hear how people quit journaling because they cant find the fun in it too keep going. The reason you may be quitting or dont find it fun is because you're doing it wrong.. I know thats rude but listen! Maybe you.. try daily journaling but hate the structure instead write when you feel like it dont force something that doesn't fit! Maybe you.. dont like summarizing how you feel onto a page instead write about you're interests and passions! Journaling is all about YOU. So write about anything thats sparks joy you dont need to follow the boring structure of "Dear Diary, today I... and I also... and blah blah" thats boring (unless maybe thats what you want to write, in that case DO IT) Write about everything and anything!
LOOKING BACK ON OLD JOURNALS

There is no better feeling than finishing a journal. A journal filled with you're thoughts, doodles, lists, dreams, goals, rants, etc. A journal that is a recollection of who you were at a specific stage in you're life. Being able to look back on that in the future is so special. No matter how embarrassing that journal may be you'll be thankful to have something to look back on. But the best part of looking back on a journal will be seeing how much you changed, I mean you're documenting change! How cool is that?!
HAVE AN OUTLET

I know you have things you're probably dying to tell someone. Either that be gossip, drama, personal issues, etc. But you unsterstand that telling others about certain things isnt so wise. You're bubbling with things to say, where do you dump that out? A JOURNAL! A journal will become your bestfriend who wouldn't dare to reveal you're secrets. Tell it everything, let those thoughts flow and I promise youll feel so much more at peace. This especially works if you have an interest you're dying to talk about but no one to tell it too. The journal will listennnn!
At the end of the day there's so much you can get out of journaling, not just what I said. So I encourage you to try it. Find what journaling will do for you. Yes, you should journal! Now go ahead pick up that old journal or go out and buy a cute notebook and begin you're JOURNALING JOURNEY!!
XOXO, Tiff
