Couldn't leave Iris without a girlfriend in 2025. So here's Kim :)

In the magical team I created, Kim is the shield. Passionate, loyal, protective, and with a good heart, but convinced that showing strength means never asking for help. Also, on of my favourite things about her is that she is the kind of person who is very soft for cute animal videos, and that tries to adopt anything she finds outside that looks even remotely like it could use her help, or a warm home. (Also, I'm slowly updating my toyhouse, so she'll probably be up on there with Iris and April very soon)

about 2024, and creativity.

It's the 31st and I don't usually write text posts, but I want to leave a little something here to mark the end of the year. When I look back at 2024, when it comes to art, I can confidently say it didn’t go as planned. As always, I started the year with my head full of big ideas, but life had other plans for me.

One of my oldest fears when it comes to art has been this horrible feeling that I’m a profoundly uncreative person. Logically, I know creativity doesn't work like that, and it sounds kind of silly to admit that a fear like that has been following since my art school days, but still, that's the truth. Finally, even if I struggled a lot with it, this was the year I started to really understand on a deeper level that creativity isn’t something you’re born with or without. It doesn’t have to match the perfect idea we have in our heads either. If you are also struggling with this, I hope these few lines help you understand that creativity looks different for everyone, and it’s something you need to learn to embrace without judgement.

On a lighter note, I looked at my top posts for 2024 and it's full of Dimension 20 fanart! So, to the d20 fans, thank you for the love! And, I promise, I’ll stop being so afraid of drawing fanart at some point 😂

For 2025, I’ve got just one resolution, and that is a first for me. It's to continue letting go. I want to try to let go of expectations, fear, and all the things holding me back. I want to see what happens when I just let myself be.

So I wish you a happy new year, and here's to a 2025 spent embracing who we are :)

I created Iris and her magical group to remind myself of why I fell in love with drawing in the first place. I want next year to be all about finding joy in what I'm doing again, and I know having characters like her will really make a difference 💖 She's themed after light and positivity, she's the (unwilling) leader of the group, and the person who brought together the friend group in the first place, even before they got their powers.

This year has been full of uncertainty, and I’ve felt a bit lost with my art. But going back to what made me love creating in the first place, magical girls, is helping. Iris is one of my new characters, and she’s not meant to be perfect, original, or be anything more than just a character for me to enjoy.

Prompt 2 for @drawtober is shapeshifter. This felt like the perfect prompt to draw a masca.

Masche are witches in Italian folklore. They look like completely regular people and hide between them, but actually have a variety of supernatural powers. Some are immortal, some are eternally young, some can fly, some can control the weather, but, most importantly, a lot of them can transform into animals. They're often mischievous and vindicative, so when they do turn into animals, it's often to trick people. This one, is turning into a goat, which is a pretty common choice, along with cats!
