Some thoughts: -Byakuya's was the first, and took the longest (1.5 hours) -Kyoko's is my favourite of the bunch -This isnt really a fleshed out au, I just saw a cool ass tie online and thought 'if byakuya was a ghost i bet he'd wear that -Byakuya is meant to look like a kid bc in my vague og concept he died during the heir competition -in this vaguely sort of an au, byakuya died from something about his neck (the tie points to his neck+blue blood), makoto got shot in the head (crosshair halo) and kyoko's death is a seeecret (her lil shush motion)
this was lots of fun i think i'll do a v3 version too

Maybe eventually I could share how to do this, if anyone is interested. Warning though it’s…. Really complicated and because I’m the one making it, a bit convoluted and not optimized LMAO
Oh and uhhh ignore the pufferfish cursor o7

he opened a door that cannot be closed
OK I HAVE A LOT TO SAYYYYY
This takes place when Byakuya opened the door to find chihiro's body. Because... do you think there was a moment of shock. Of horror. Of seeing Mondo and hoping that maybe it wasn't what it looked like, and then of seeing Chihiro's corpse?
And beyond just that.
If he went to tell the others, wouldn't that cast suspicion onto him? Why was he at the girls locker room at such an odd hour anyway..? Would they even believe him if he accused Mondo?
If he left now and it was later found that he left the body, how would he justify that? Wouldn't that cast suspicion onto him?
And, with Chihiro dead, the secrets wouldn't be revealed. Genocider Syo wouldn't be revealed. Wouldn't that be dangerous to him?
And if he did decide to kill, wouldn't he want to know who was dangerous to him?
Do you think he Chihiro was already dead, and that it didn't matter? Do you think he was as desensitized as he claimed? Do you think he had to remind himself that a body is just an object and blood is just a liquid?
Do you think HE thought he had a choice? If he thought that he would already be suspicious anyway, he might as well make it seem intentional and expose genocider syo while he was at it.
I wonder if he cornered himself.
(NOTE: i am not agreeing with his dogwater reasoning or excusing his actions. moreso just taking it apart and thinking about WHY TF DID HE DO THATTT WHY TF DID HE DO THAT)
⚠️⚠️THIS PIECE DREW SOME INSPIRATION FROM THIS DRAWING⚠️⚠️
also noooo one asked but this drawing took just about one hour !

HOLD THE FUCKING PHONE (lots of talk of suicide ahead)
In Chapter four, Sakura upheld bushido code (technically) by committing suicide after a grievous mistake (being the traitor) By code 3, honor, if you lose your honor you should commit suicice. This is a part of the bushido code. THE BUSHIDO CODE WHICH BYAKUYA KNOWS ABOUT. HE KNOWS BUSIDO CODE.
AAAND YET HOMEBOY WAS OUT HERE PRETENDING HE HAD NO CLUE WHAT SUICIDE WAS???
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^^^^^ LIKE. I had already thought it strange for him to have never heard of the concept before. Like... surely he couldn't have been THAT sheltered. Surely he knows that suicide is not "ridiculous fiction." He reads crime files like... SURELY HE KNOWS???
BUT THIS CONFIRMED TO ME THAT HE DID IN FACT KNOW.
Bushido code brings up suicide kind of a LOT! And SAKURA SPECIFICALLY noted that he knows bushido code.
Now, it isn't actually confirmed whether he follows bushido code, let alone the traditional version of it. BUT, as I went over earlier, for the most part he does seem to follow the principles of it, with notable exceptions being respect for his enemies and honesty.
And... apparently, there is an exception for the suicide part of being honor bound. Because, by bushido code, he was Supposed to commit suicide after what he did to Chihiro. Reminder, a big part of code 4 (respect) is to respectful of your enemies, even or ESPECIALLY after death. And by code 3 (honor) if you do something like that you are supposed to commit suicide to make up for it. Which, notably, HE DID NOT DO (side note, maybe this was why he was so.... weird. during chapter 2. I actually have another post I want to make on chapter 2 though.... maybe i'll get into it then.)
ALL THIS TO SAY.
He knows what suicide is. He was lying. I haven't concluded exactly why, as there isn't strong evidence to say he actually practices bushido code or believes in the suicide aspect of code 3. But, it's interesting regardless
The Significance of Bushido for Sakura Ogami and Byakuya Togami
Hello! I don't really post analysis stuff, so please pardon if this is formatted weirdly or a bit awkward!
So, to start! In the official artbook, there are relationship charts which share snippets of what characters think of each other. For Byakuya Togami, Sakura Ogami's thought says "He also seems to possess knowledge of bushido" as seen below (please excuse the crunchy screenshot)
Tumblr media
I've seen a lot of people assuming that bushido is a martial art, so I wanted to take some time to talk about what bushido is, and how it highlights the parallels between Sakura Ogami and Byakuya Togami. (The antagonists all have parallels with the rest of the cast, but I haven't seen many people talking about the parallels with Byakuya specifically!)
So, what is bushido if not a martial art? It is a series of seven codes or principles which dictate how martial artists (particularly samurai) It is about how you carry yourself, how you pursue goals, and maintaining honor.
These are all important to conduct of martial artist and historically, the structuring of the samurai lifestyle. However, notably, the contemporary form is used in economic organization of Japan! This is an interesting parallel already, because in two forms it represents key aspects of both Sakura and Byakuya.
Now, before I get into the 7 codes, I'd like to take a moment to establish the parallels between the two characters. Namely, how their family and their role within the family is integral to the characters and their motivations. Sakura was born and raised into her role as the martial artist, her position as the martial artist who would have eventually taken over her family's dojo and legacy are key to who she is. Byakuya is similar in that regard, he was born and raised a potential heir to the Togami family, and would have eventually inherited the conglomerate and legacy. They both had to fight for their position (Sakura more literally) and hold said position with pride- though it of course looks different for both of them on the basis that Byakuya is an asshole about it. Another interesting tidbit is that their names themselves are similar. Sakura and Byakuya have similar sounds, but that isn't very important. What I DO find more noteworthy is their family names. Togami and Ogami. That is One Letter apart. Togami means Ten Gods, and Ogami roughly translates to large/great deity. I personally interpret this to have some insight about familiar structure, specifically with Byakuya being one of MANY siblings whereas Sakura was the only female of her generation, and that they both rose above these odds. However, the part that really matters about the parallels here, is that their families are important to who they are.
With that groundwork in mind, let me list the seven codes!
Righteousness- Do not attack without an important reason Loyalty- You must always be loyal to your master, even at the cost of your own life Honor- An honorless life is not a life at all  Respect- Respect your enemy, even after death Honesty- Never lie or use deception Courage- You fight to the death, regardless of fear. You must master your own fear. Consistency- You must never change your path, you must only move forward
Now I will go through each code and explain how it relates to both characters under the cut!
Righteousness "Do not attack without an important reason"
UPHELD BY BOTH Neither Byakuya or Sakura ever attacked anyone directly, BUT Byakuya did his whole deal in chap 2 and Sakura was a traitor. These were both for very specific reasons. (Even if Byakuya's reasons were not GOOD, they WERE important to him.) Byakuya wanted to reveal Genocider Syo's identity and test his classmates. Sakura of course wanted to protect her family's dojo. In the THH story, they BOTH upheld this principle
Loyality "You must always be loyal to your master, even at the cost of your own life"
UPHELD BY BOTH (mostly) In this case, I would say that their "master" is their family (For Sakura this was probably in more ways than one since her teacher was probably family as well) Byakuya is loyal to the Togami family, and Sakura is loyal to the Ogami family (dojo). Their families and family legacy integral to both characters as I discussed earlier, and it serves as a large motivation for their actions in general. They both see their family as a point of pride. Sakura went against her own values to protect her family's dojo, which was a MAJOR TURNING POINT for her story. Byakuya's BIGGEST SHIFT in outward presentation when he heard that HIS family legacy was destroyed- and what pulled him out of it was the idea of restoring it. They BOTH upheld this principle..... mostly. Sakura eventually chose to defy monokuma rather than protect her dojo, and after everything Byakuya DID say he wanted to travel, which could imply a lack of interest in immediately starting back up with the Togami line? But, overall I'd say they did both display extreme loyalty to their families)
Honor "An honorless life is not a life at all"
BOTH FAILED (Notably, if you make a mistake and thus lose your honor, by bushido code you should commit suicide.)
This one is more complicated than the others. Both Sakura and Byakuay try to behave "honorably" in VERY different ways- Sakura presents as more. well. actually honorable and Byakuya would better be described as acting Like a Noble- but still upholding an image of complete perfection (which, to him, is like honor). Sakura is genuinely honorable, but her 'honor' as described by bushido and her own sense of honor was lost by being the traitor. She takes her own life not directly from lack of honor, but as a form of consequence and trying to repair what happened. So, she failed in not losing her honor but upheld the code by committing suicide. Byakuya never really lost his image, despite his deal in chapter two, so in that way HIS sense of honor was not lost despite the fact that he did behave extremely dishonorably. He also did not kill himself, despite his mistakes. Essentially, they both failed in kind of inverse ways. They both lost their honor through a dishonorable action/mistake (Byakuya mistreating Chihiro's corpse and Sakura betraying her peers), however Byakuya's self image and sense of honor was not damaged while Sakura's WAS. So, in terms of self image, Byakuya upheld it while Sakura didn't. However, in terms of the expected suicide, Sakura upheld it (granted for different reasons) while Byakuya didn't.
Respect "respect your enemy, even after death" FAILED BY BYAKUYA A large part of this principle is to respect your enemy's life AND death- you must treat their corpse with respect. Byakuya BLATANTLY FAILED THIS ONE. like really badly. Really really badly.
Sakura.... well, she was a traitor yes, but not because she wanted to, and she was always respectful as possible despite that. Sakura is also, in general, six million times more respectful than Byakuya in any given situation. So, Byakuya failed this one and Sakura didn't.
Honesty "Never lie or use deception"
FAILED BY BOTH Ok so... everyone lies sometimes. But ignoring that. Byakuya lies by ommission or implication (This could be its own post, but basically if you have to TELL people that you are confident and unbothered and unafraid instead of just BEING that way, it is almost certainly a lie or exaggeration) but not a huge amount directly. He DID in fact lie and deceive everyone with chap 2. Duhhhh. Sakura notably lied more directly (not by choice) with the whole traitor situation. It's interesting that, strictly in terms of bushido code about their main chapters, Sakura actually failed WORSE THAN BYAKUYA???? However, overall, Byakuya fails like daily. So. Either way they both failed.
Courage "You fight to the death, regardless of fear. You must master your own fear"
UPHELD BY BOTH Neither of them were in a situation to fight to the death exactly, BUTTTT Im focusing on the mastery of fear part. They BOTH push through their own fear to appear strong- for different reasons. Sakura wanted to reassure others, Bykauya wanted to reassure himself and more specifically establish his position as above the others. (again, could be a whole other post)
Courage is not the lack of fear, but continuing on in spite of it. And considering the whole, yknow, KILLING GAME there's no shot that either of them had ZERO fear. But they both did a good job hiding it! So, I think they both very much so upheld this one!
Consistency "You must never change your path, you must only move forward"
FAILED BY SAKURA There's a bit less to this one. Although they are both clearly very motivated people, Sakura failed while Byakuay did not. Sakura CHANGED her direction in relation to the whole traitor thing by switching up on monokuma, which I'm not here to argue if it was good or bad. What I care about here is that she changed her original goal of protecting her family for doing what is perhaps better overall- BUT that is still giving up on an original path. (By Bushido code. Not arguing about whether or not you should ever change your goals irl or if characters change motivations or if Sakura was wrong idc) Bykauya however, even with his WHOLE FAMILY GONE, declared he would rebuild his family legacy single handedly. He also was extremely consistent in being dedicated to the Togami family for literally the entire time. Sakura changed direction (and in a sense betrayed her family), but Byakuya didn't (for better or for worse).
Its just very interesting to me what codes they failed/upheld. Largely speaking, they failed and upheld the same codes, but both had one where they failed and the other didn't.
And again, it's VERY INTERESTING TO ME that the bushido code specifically applies to both historic martial arts and modern day economics. Almost as if.... it's a parallel !!!!
I am sorry if this was incomprehensible. im not an analaysis person you know. i just draw things im not here to be smart

in my ultimate violinist byakuya AU, byakuya has (mostly one sided) beef with every single student with even an INCLINATION towards music. But IN PARTICULAR he really is annoyed at Leon's attitude toward music and HATES that Leon claims to want to be a musician but does nothing to achieve that goal.
Leon lowkey wanted to be Byakuya's friend, and he has No Clue why Byakuya has such hatred towards him. he also finds byakuya's attitude about classical music being the only Good Music annoying
Also, to Byakuya, the only valid stringed instruments are violin and cello. Viola and double bass are on Thin Ice.
also also i think he'd claim to despise Your Lie in April but he does not, in fact, hate it

Note
au where after losing the heir competition and growing up, he wins the lucky student lottery, and hates it, he hates the fact hes "lucky" he hates pretty much everything about the scenario hes in, he cant even be pretentious about it, because these people actually have talents while he doesn't (maybe makotos a random guy whos friends with all of class 78 besides byakuya, with byakuya also hating him because he actually seems happy in his normalcy)
Tumblr media
some thoughts on this AU
After losing the heir competition, Byakuya gets unofficially adopted by Aloysius (he was too young to go out on his own)
He is self sufficient to a detrimental degree, refuses to accept help from others. Aloysius tries his best
He works crazy hours at a cafe because he is determined to provide for himself (he doesn't care if he breaks child labour laws bc he wouldn't be the one to get in trouble for it)
He has a lot of skills (gaming, music, writing) but he hasn't been able to dedicate enough time on any skill to be truly exceptional, certainly not ultimate level. This eats at him.
He grew out his hair and pierced his ears because he Needs to be Special (and also as an act of rebellion. he refuses to be what people expect of him. he must be Different.)
Makoto was a reserve course student as the Ultimate Social Butterfly ! He befriended Kyoko early on, and when a spot opened up in class 78 he joined !
Makoto is very well liked by the entire class (except Byakuya)
He's largely the same as in canon
He is trying to befriend Byakuya ! Byakuya is extremely resistant because of... well, he's byakuya. He doesn't get along with anyone in the class. BUT ALSOOOO in this au he specifically wants to undermind Makoto's talent
Byakuya is jealous of Makoto in particular. what do you mean this completely ordinary person with no specific skills worked his way up just through social connection.
Makoto thinks that byakuya is like a feral cat. he's... not wrong.
side note, super awesome to get an au request like this !! i've been rotating it in my brain since i saw it lol
