The Plantation

from author Stella Fitzsimmons is the first book in the plantation series. At the beginning of the book we learn that the world has been taken over by an alien race called Sliman and that in the area of the world that the book is set in there are things called plantations, which are similar to camps. Each has a certain amount of humans and the sliman's alien slaves. In this area of the world some teenagers have escaped from their  plantations and are planning an uprising. When they escaped they got lucky and found an abandoned alien facility where they can train themselves until they are ready to put their plans in motion for the beginning of the uprising. We also learn that each of the teenagers have a special attribute that makes them useful to the aliens: speed, strength, agility, etc. Though, the character from whose POV we see the world doesn't believe that she has  any of these special skills. In the second chapter we find out that the escaped teenagers name themselves (in the plantations they are only given numbers not names) by picking a book from the library , then choosing a name that they like. The girl we are with chose the name Freya and the boy who helped save her from her plantation is Finn. Finn is the person that helped make her stay at the plantation more bearable, after he escaped she was there for a year without him. I actually really enjoyed this story. At first I was't so sure because the narrate, Freya, was  extremely whiny at the beginning, but the more i read the more I liked it. Though I will say that I felt  that there should have been a little bit more backstory to the characters, or even just a few of the main ones. I would suggest this book to anyone that enjoys young adult books with paranormal themes.
