You think The Lost Boys fandom is niche? No, we're small but we're a plentiful and tight knit community. Try being in the Subspecies fandom...it's a ghost town here. I hear whispers of lost souls...I think they're saying... that it's never been clear why the bloodstone is important and why vampires are killing each other over it when it's just a baby bottle pop with endless blood vampires besides Michelle don't have a problem with killing why would they care about a bottomless blood bag when this planet is filled with happy meals on legs?

I'm not really sure what made me decide to search up Subspecies on YouTube today, but I just learned that last year a new movie in the series was released 25 YEARS after the last one (Subspecies 4, 1998).
The Subspecies movies are B movies through and through, silly, hammy and overacted, but they're bad in the way things like Reanimator or Evil Dead are bad - super enjoyable to watch, and with moments of genius.
No glittery relatable Twilight vampires here, Radu is the classic graveyard revenant, oftentimes disgusting (he has a real problem with eating neatly and drools saliva almost as often as blood), and he can be very cruel, selfish and evil, but he's also strangely charismatic and as the series progresses you learn what a lonely tragic figure he is, and how desperate he is to be loved. He's honestly one of my favourite movie vampires.
Subspecies is probably the most niche fandom I am part of, I unironically love them, and I'm very ashamed that I only just found out about the new movie. Honestly, I never thought there would even be another one, and I'm thrilled to be wrong. I now need to order my own bluray copy to go alongside the boxset of the other 4 and Vampire Journals (a spinoff within the same movie world that doesn't feature Radu, though he's mentioned).
To bring this back to OP's post, I agree that his look in Subspecies 1 was the best 馃槉馃馃

Subspecies (1991) - this Radu just does it for me. Should have kept this exact look for all the films. *chef's kiss*

My piercings + ear redecorating!
I got my first lobe piercings when I was around 10 (scary old fashioned gun, at a jeweller, it was 1992 and no-one really knew better).
Throughout my mid to late teens I pierced my ears myself 4 more times with sewing needles. *obligatory warning that this was very stupid and can go horribly wrong, go to a professional*. Luckily for me I didn't get any infections or keloids.
I've had a few other piercings over the years but my ear ones are the only ones I still have, with the addition of a rook and a helix - those were all done professionally.
I took out my lip and tongue due to worry about tooth damage, my wrist surface piercing I only kept for a month as although I loved it, it was also super annoying and kept getting caught on things. I also removed my eyebrow in the last couple of years as it was also getting on my nerves. I'm a pretty rare beast as I managed to keep my eyebrow piercing from the age of 17 up to my late 30s, and I could probably still get it back in now. Eyebrow piercings are notorious for rejecting and growing out, but that never happened with mine. I generally heal piercings extremely well.
I retired my second lobes when I started stretching as I didn't want them to get in the way. My right has been at 16mm for about 15 years now. At the time I liked being asymmetrical, however late last year I decided I wanted to stretch the left up to match. Its currently at 5mm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For almost the entire time I've had ear piercings they've been just plain steel - like the pic on the right. Remember, the body piercing era I started out in was the late 90s, and back then apart from surgical steel all you could get was horrible plastic stuff, and the occasional glittery gemstone. I'm not into bling. Titanium wasn't even a thing you could get for piercings at that point, and neither was internally threaded jewellery, which meant having interesting ends on them wasn't really possible.
I tend to forget that there are a lot more options now, so coinciding with stretching my left ear I've been scouring the Internet for jewellery I like. So far I have what you see here, though I do also have an ankh stud on the way. These are all titanium, and from 2 UK sellers, Herbie and Lou, and Deep Blue Piercing, whom I found on Etsy. Deep Blue does have their own website, but the pricing is the same as Etsy.
All my studs are labret studs as I find the flat back and the slightly larger gauge (1.2mm or 16g to Americans) much more comfortable. I never wear conventional earrings.
I do like to wear dangly ones which I remove the hooks from and put on a hinged segment ring, which I then hang from my tunnels. Here are a couple of examples.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fly is from Kattie Whittle, and is one of my favourite pairs. The other one was from a charity shop. Both are surprisingly lightweight for such large earrings.
Though I think it can look awesome, for me personally I don't really like lots of large dangles up my ear, so I'm sticking with the studs in the rest of my lobes for now.
I'll fill them slowly but surely as I find more studs I like. I'd also really love to find some nice jewellery to put in my rook - you can get oval clickers for them, or I could switch out the ends of my horseshoe bar for some more interesting ones, or get a curved barbell and do the same thing. We will see 馃榿
I'm open to suggestions of good shops to get jewellery from, though of course it's much better for me if they're UK based. I don't really want to spend more on postage than I do on the jewellery!

So I saw a video on a technique for patching sweater holes, and I really wanted to try it.
Fortunately (unfortunately?) I had an old sweater that got chewed up when it accidentally took an unprotected ride through the laundry. It had PLENTY of holes to practice on, of various sizes.
I decided to start on some of the smaller holes:
Tumblr media
It went......okay? I guess? It's a new technique. You can probably see which hole I tried first and what progress I made doing it a second time....
Tumblr media
I ended up getting myself a new toy to continue (a latch hook, because my crochet hook was doing well-enough-I-guess but I figured I could neaten it up a little if I was less likely to drop loops). So I decided to go after one of the bigger, more irregular holes:
Tumblr media
(this picture actually has the most accurate portrayal of the real-life color of the repair yarn. I don't know why it's so grass-green in the other pictures. It's even a little darker than it looks in this picture, and blends in better with the rest of the sweater colors.)
Which also went....okay........I'm new-technique satisfied......and there are a lot fewer holes in the sweater now, anyway. (I did a weave-darning on the spot on the very right, but that was only to try it out to see how it looked.)
Tumblr media
So it got me brave enough to try some of the really big holes:
Tumblr media
The first of which went okay:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but I'm still clearly struggling with how much working slack to leave on the loops, which you can see with the increasing tension as I worked from right to left.
But you know what?
This monster is next. We'll see how it goes! Regardless, I'm enjoying the technique and learning a LOT. Plus....I'll be able to wear this sweater again!

I'm gonna remember that quote!
I often get guilty feelings from spending money on luxuries because I grew up in a household where we didn't have a lot of money, and also my parents tended to use both money and gift giving in a manipulative way. I sometimes think I'm gonna get told off if I even mention to anyone that I've bought stuff for myself.
Thankfully I'm fully aware that this is what's going on, and as we're reasonably well off these days (for which I am extremely grateful given the world economy at present), and don't have children of our own, if we can afford The Thing, usually we will get The Thing.
Nonetheless, it's good to have phrases like that to repeat to myself 馃榿
15.5ish years ago my mum took me to see Hamlet with David Tennant in the starring role for my birthday.
I tried to get tickets for Macbeth's original run this year but because it was in SUCH a small theatre I missed out as anything left for the general sale sold out instantly.
A couple of days ago they announced the show was getting a West End transfer in October. Today I spent far too much money on some seats on the end of a row in the stalls (that are apparently not amazing) but I don't care...I've missed out on so many of David's stage performances over the last decade, I felt like it was my turn again. (My other dream is to see Tom Hiddleston on stage, especially Shakespeare, but his stuff sells out even more crazy than Tennant's stuff so I feel that will remain a dream if he ever returns to the stage at all.) Funny thing is my husband and I were already going to see Dr Strangelove in October so now we're seeing Macbeth on a Friday and Dr Strangelove Saturday matinee. We'll worry about hotel and flights/train down to London later... You know what made me pull the trigger? I saw a Tweet from someone saying their grandfather once told them to buy the expensive thing because "are you going to be the richest woman in the graveyard?" THAT !

Macbeth booked!
Well, that was nerve wracking. It took more like 10 minutes but it was still nail biting having to wait. Plus my card declined first time because I accidentally put a digit wrong. PayPal when I tried the second time.
Tumblr media
Managed to get decent tickets (middle of the royal circle) for the performance I wanted, within a couple of days of my birthday. Less expensive than I thought it would be too.
I am a massive literature nerd, I've loved Macbeth since I studied it as a teen and I've seen many different versions, but never on stage. Tennant's Hamlet and Richard II were incredible so I'm sure this will not disappoint.
Happy birthday to me!
