Ratfish has me really delighted with the concept of watching more written improv. There are all these conversational options they can tap into that aren’t possible in other mediums. And they’re all great writers too, so it’s cool to see them flex that muscle directly, with no budgets or physical limitations in the way. There’s also something weirdly more immersive about it, the chat makes it easier to lose myself in the fantasy that these characters actually exist.
I hope they do more stuff like this, whether it’s a game samer or something else with a similar style. I’m surprised by how much I love it.

No, that's a saying; listen to me! Friendship? Fuck! All this, “Love is the greatest magic of all.” So, in a war, a mother and her children get fucking iced in an alleyway outside of their home, was the problem that they didn't love each other enough? That's crazy, Kristen! That's crazy! Love is not magic! Magic is magic, love is love!
Boom: and really, isn’t love the most powerful magic of all? ❤️

the real reason adaine couldnt predict this part of the party happening is because k2 british kristen applebees divine intervention pregnancy scare blimey is an event so cosmically baffling that it blacks out the visions of any divination wizard who attempts to scry on that chunk of time

my dude, you sent literal dragons to their polling location. they may not be able to fix everything, but you clearly think they can fix something

Pushing Ankarna to give up her sun aspects was inherently dangerous. It would have been dangerous even if Sol’s followers had politely asked her for it.
A god of justice and summer has a fallback plan when times are good. A god of only justice, even in its most positive form, has a DIRECT conflict of interest with her followers.
As injustices get fixed, there are fewer things for justice to act on. That’s great for mortals; they’re addressing the root causes of injustice rather than managing the symptoms. But for a god of only-justice, it will kill her.
Give up the dawn, and the only way to survive is as a deity of impotent rage. He’ll point out injustices, and maybe even accurately diagnose them, but he has to steer his followers away from anything that would solve those problems. If a problem requires action, he’ll tell them to stew in their rage at home. If a problem requires thoughtful, measured changes, he’ll tell them to burn it all down. He’ll tell them everything they should be mad about while actively making all their problems worse. There can be no summer, there can be no harvest time, only a treadmill of injustices with no hope of success or rest.
If he stops being willing to do that, he will die, and another will take his place. This isn’t a case of power corrupting; it’s power FINDING the corrupt. Only a corrupt deity can survive within this narrower, hollowed-out domain.

All that being said, there’s something weirdly endearing about a deity-in-training who can’t (yet) grant smites or divine interventions, so he has to run around smiting everything manually for his followers.
We keep giving the Ratgrinders shit for this powerleveling manuever, but the real dork here is Porter. Yes, I can grant you spells, but you have to notify me about the fight 1-2 business days in advance lmao.
(and before you come at me for poor-little-meow-meowing Porter, consider how seethingly he would hate it)

There was a really fundamental problem with the plan to turn Ankarna: people don’t typically want to worship a god of Only war and conquest. They want to at least believe they’re fighting for something else, even if war and conquest are the primary outputs.
The narrower the focus on war becomes, the harder it gets to fully kill doubt. Not just the deific personification of doubt, but the doubt that exists in people as a direct result of having nothing to fight for.
On top of that, you can’t have war and conquest if your foes are completely destroyed. An over-dedication to war as an end to itself requires opposition. This likely interfered with their attempts to fully destroy Ruvina. Meanwhile, the followers of Ruvina were NOT idolizing war, they were trying to reach the world after the war, so they were able to actually follow through.
The House of Sunstone is sitting there thinking their deity is being stubborn, that replacing her would fix it. But, my brethren in Ankarna — the call is coming from inside the house.

The real chaos move would be to become a cleric of Porter and just royally fuck up the war domain. You wanted to be a god of war? Surprise bitch, now wars are conducted by hugs and our battle hymns are gnome songs.
