Inspired by my friends trying to figure out how Hyrulian naming conventions work and realizing that there’s gotta be so many kids named Link every generation

If you go the poly Sonia/Rauru route, then Rauru has two lovers to help him repopulate
Precisely!!
Unless the third member doesn’t happen to have a uterus, but Hylia as his witness he’s still gonna put the effort into trying

Oh frick, that is excellent! It would absolutely tie together all the major connections with design and theme that they play in the game’s story and history.
I’m stoked that the inspiration for the Zonai seem to be fairly complex, and I really hope we get more from Nintendo or uncover more secrets in the game as time goes on :3c
So when I first saw/started playing Tears of the Kingdom, I was firmly in the ‘Rauru (and other Zonai) have goat designs’ group of people, but now (and especially when my friend @runningwolf62 pointed it out) I’m realizing that they’re not designed like goats at all (or at least not solely), but dragons?
The BotW/TotK dragons specifically, because I realize that a lot of the Zonai’s design details are similar or exactly the same as what we see on the dragons flying around Hyrule.
HUGE SPOILERS FOR THE DRAGON’S TEARS QUESTLINE
Using Farosh as a direct comparison:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. The Zonai seem to have horns, which itself can lend to a reptilian/draconian design—I can’t quite put my finger on it, but they don’t come off to me like goat horns? Uncertain on this one.
2. Both the Zonai and all the BotW/TotK dragons sport the same rather fabulous eyelashes in bright, eye-catching colors.
3. There seem to be details on Rauru’s cheeks/chin that mimic the scale design seem fairly prominently on Farosh on the left. I know for me the ‘billygoat goatee’ is what originally made the design lean goat-like, but having seen the dragons I’m now ????? unsure
4. All the dragons in the BotW/TotK games DO have big, long ears just like the Zonai characters do! This is what threw me completely when it was mentioned since I never had went after the dragons and just assumed from faraway their designs didn’t have any of these elements.
(see Naydra below, look at the ears and scales on the face!)
Tumblr media
5. Zonai culture seems to have a connection with dragons in the BotW/TotK world. They are the ones who created the ‘secret stones’ after all, and it is through the injection of those stone that turn a person into a dragon. So does this mean that Zonai are related to dragons? Did they create the dragons? (Is that why the Zonai aren’t around anymore…?) That would make sense as to why Mineru was acutely aware of what eating a secret stone would do, but also have it deeply instilled in her that the act is taboo and forbidden. Forbidden by whom, and for what specific purpose? How do they change someone into a dragon?
Though I’m sure there can be other points made both visual and not, I just wanted to toss my ideas out because I am incredibly interested in the idea that the Zonai might be somehow related to the dragons—I just think they’re neat!

Rauru has a breeding kink you cannot change my mind
I have no intention on doing so because you are Absolutely Correct in saying that—this man not only has to make sure he has an heir to the throne (or multiple? Uncertain what type of primogeniture Hyrule follows…) but also like?? Rauru why are you and Mineru the last of the Zonai in Hyrule? Where is everyone else? Do you need help repopulating
I wonder if that was going through Sonia’s mind when she married him because somewhere!! there’s a hylian-zonai baby running around and I want to know!! what they look like!! How many kids did they have?? I don’t care what nintendo says (if they end up saying anything about it) because I cannot be swayed from the fact that he’d be the kind of man to have like half a dozen kids at least

*grips your shoulders* I cannot stress enough how much I need Rauru/Reader/Sonia polyamory headcanons. Pleeeeeaaaassseeee.
(SFW and NSFW if you would be so kind!)
To me, when it comes to Rauru/Reader/Sonia polyam content, the most interesting scenario/AU to explore would be where the reader is the one sent to the past instead of Zelda, and they inadvertently alter the timeline in such a drastic way that it pulls an Age of Calamity and the series of events leading to BotW/TotK never happen in the first place.
Perhaps Ganon’s war against the fledgling Hyrule is less severe, or perhaps Rauru and Sonia are warned and prepared by the reader’s existing knowledge to let him get too powerful in the first place. Maybe the reader has divine powers themselves in some form?
I’ll make the Ganon redemption I want to see in the world.
Regardless, the reader is sent back to the age of the first king and queen of Hyrule, and is then faced with the challenge of changing the flow of time and fate itself. Lots of interesting concepts to explore within that! But of course you asked for headcanons, so let me offer some with that rambling preface out of the way:
-
The relationship develops a bit jarringly at first between yourself and the Hyrule royals, jumping from awkward strangers to sweet confidants, and then to abrupt lovers without much warning. Part of this is due to the frantic response you have from being plucked straight out of your own timeline and they being the only ones who know about the truth, but it’s also in part to the fact that there is a strange sort of connection the three of you share.
For the people in Hyrule after all, it is often said that all good things come in threes—wealth, prosperity, even love. It doesn’t help at all that both Sonia and Rauru are both genuinely interesting people to be around. Sonia’s wit can be as sharp as her tongue, while Rauru is a man of many stories and a lovely voice with which to tell them. They are both natural leaders, and it isn’t difficult for one seeking comfort to find it in the king and queen’s presence. Sonia’s careful touch, Rauru’s soothing voice… how far can the intimate comfort of a stranger in a strange time go before one thinks to talk about it openly?
In fact, nobody *does* talk about it for a long while, leaving things unlabeled and unmentioned until someone else entirely asks about it, perhaps even thinking it a funny joke—things are so entwined between the three of you that it’s difficult to tell whether the king or queen is the one who has a consort. Emotions unwind like a ball of yarn tumbling down a hill from there, leading to multiple awkward conversations and only the occasional lingering glance and raised eyebrow from Mineru who, perhaps more than anyone, understands some of her younger brother’s protective body language.
Sonia at least is the most forthright. She is the one to verbalize her emotions first and without very much hesitation at all, while Rauru takes a little more time to do so himself—perhaps it is a culture difference, a particular form of courtship for Zonai that he’s unable to follow. Perhaps he’s unsure how people will treat you or if they might see you as any lesser than they are as the forming couple of the new kingdom. All the same, he admits to his feelings shortly after Sonia does, though it takes a while for them to figure out how to present the relationship to their court without it being misinterpreted.
[Spicy headcanons below the cut:]
The first time you, Sonia and Rauru have sex, it is before anything is established or even *talked* about—a purely spur-of-the-moment series of actions and reactions, though there is never a moment where either the king or the queen treat it as something they regret. It’s a bit scary in a way, being a third party not only in an established relationship, but a royal one at that; but Rauru is attentive and Sonia is calming, and you are left scarcely able to concentrate between the pleasure of their lips, hands and bodies.
Be it due to the queen’s powers of time or the king’s inhuman heritage, but they have a combined sexual stamina that is either terrifying or mind-blowing depending on one’s perspective—this fact is learned repeatedly through the night of your first encounter with them, though you never quite get used to the fact that they’re completely capable of going through an entire evening without a blink of sleep.
Godspeed to you if you have a mommy and/or daddy kink, since the royal couple is more than capable, willing, and enthusiastic about partaking in such carnal desires.

THOUGHTS ON GANON PLEASE SHARE, SFW OR OTHERWISE IM NOT PICKY
I will first point out that I’m not finished with the game, but have finished the ‘The Dragon’s Tears’ quest line in its entirety and have seen a large chunk of the story up until the ending (true or otherwise). But that said: overall I really enjoy his portrayal in the game!
My formative LoZ game was Ocarina of Time, so it’s been really cool to see him shift from being a generic antagonist to one with a bit more of an overt goal and sense of character almost? I always enjoyed games that made him more than a stand-in for ‘generic dark scheming evil dude’, and the first one that comes to mind in that regard is Windwaker—hearing him have an actual voice and dialogue with some of the cutscenes was awesome!
Admittedly I was in the group of people pre-release who were hoping to see some sort of redemption/gray-colored morality with Ganon, but nonetheless I like the direction we’re going in so far with the last two games; this might be the advantage of having multiple games in the same setting (outside of OoT/Majora’s Mask, has there ever been direct sequels?) so the characters and world have a chance to develop more over time.
Also his design? Hot. Voice? Exquisite.
The only vague nitpick I have tbh is I hate how infrequently they use his NAME. Who tf this demon king I only know my man as GANON.

It's been 84 years...
Just like Link at the start of BotW I have emerged after many years of silence to run around like a feral twink desperately trying to figure himself out. Also Sidon is there

I love that some shrines in TotK outright give the blessing to you, like Rauru decided you put in enough effort just to find it so he’s kind and benevolent about it like ‘oh you sweet soul whose heart is pure and deserving of all things good’ but then there’s some shrines where he’s just like ‘take down a dozen enemies naked with only a stick u fucking twink’

*suddenly springs to life from the three years of complete inactivity*
Sup nerds I’m playing the new Zelda game. I’m gay for the goat man (slightly surprised) and also gay for Ganon (not a surprise) but more importantly I’ve already found at least two dozen ways to die from Zelda-flavored Minecraft shenanigans (most of them involve rockets)

Imagine Sidon's reaction to visiting the Gerudo for the first time! Very hot and dry, how do they live?!
“My dear,” a voice begins, low and exhausted, but not without a sense of genuine, unending curiosity. You’re fairly sure you know exactly what he’s about to ask, but you let him speak without interruption. “…However in the world do people manage to live our here, let alone exist?”
The confusion, almost childlike in ignorance, is mildly amusing. You’d much rather hear him asking questions than complaining about the dry, scorching heat–which meant that the salve was still working. Enchanted with the waters of the Zora’s domain itself, it was paramount in making it safe to cross the Gerudo Desert with your partner, the prince of the Zora’s Domain himself: Prince Sidon.
“Because not everyone is a Zora, Sidon.”
A sigh is the only thing you get in response at first, a soft sound brushing through the otherwise dry air. You’re both only a short while away from the Gerudo’s main town, where word of your arrival has already been received and prepared for extensively as per agreements for a treaty between the two kingdoms.
No amount of help, magical enchantments or otherwise, could quell the endless curiosity that otherwise seemed to pour from the other’s mind. Questions, endless questions, many of which you couldn’t offer much of an answer to beyond what you knew from early years in school.
“Do people have to use enchantment all the time in order to live in this insufferable heat?”
“No,” You laugh, gently tugging the hood of your robe a bit farther over your face, trying to stop the sandy breeze from buffering against your face. “They aren’t Zora, Sidon, so they don’t need things like potions and salves to resist the heat. Just like how Hylians aren’t able to adapt to water like you are.”
Sidon hummed, letting his eyes gaze up from the dunes towards the horizon, where there lie a small but discernible shape of Gerudo Town, just another hour or so of a walk.
“Still, it doesn’t make sense anyone would actually care to live out here,” The prince said, nearly pouting. “I much prefer the freedom and comfort of the water at home.”
“We only stay for a week,” Or less, if things worked out even better. “And then we’ll be on our way–it’s not as if Gerudo town doesn’t have water too, you know. I’m sure that they’ll have something for you to feel comfortable.”
The satisfied sigh was worth it to hear, despite the misery of walking through the desert.
“I look forward to sharing that with you tonight.”  You could practically hear the prince smile.

Could you make a sidon/hylean reader crack fic
Technically friendo most of the stuff I write here is ambiguous enough or already includes a Hylian reader, and I’m not quite sure what you mean by a crack fic?

Do you think Sidon dries out? Would he be okay going long distances without water?
I think he certainly has to keep aware of the danger of his skin and body drying out, if only because he is a largely aquatic race! However, it’s not a completely impossible challenge to overcome, especially since he is to be king and, therefor, be able to travel the land as an ambassador for his people when needed.
There’s a lot of options for Zora to make sure that they don’t dry out to the point of illness or harm, and the easiest is simply keeping close to a body of water. Since many Zora get their water intake through sleeping in a body of water, being able to keep near a river or lake it enough to mute the worry of drying out.
In the instance that there isn’t water nearby, the next easiest thing would be to pack a special sort of salve, created specifically to keep their skin from drying out–basically it’s a moisturizer that they have to constantly keep applying to their bodies. For Zora with little wealth or resources to get of such salves, this could be difficult!
Magic would certainly be the most difficult option of all, because it’s something that takes a lot of energy to do for large periods of time, or it would require a magic-user to be traveling with them, constantly keeping the protective ward on them for the length of the trip.

“Dearest, while I deeply appreciate the attempt, I don’t think you’re very…suited for this,” the words were followed by a sheepish chuckle, but their owner did nothing to otherwise dissuade you from your mission. The size difference was one obvious problem, especially after the prince’s first adult growth spurt.
It was easiest to sit him down in a pool, with you at the edge, legs apart with him in between as best he could. Not the best position for a massage, but it was the best that you could get, and the Gerudo Desert would sooner freeze over before you’d drop an attempt to help your lover from a tense period of time.
“I’m not completely useless at this,” you say, gently leaning against him in a moment of quiet intimacy. “I just wanna help you. You’ve been so stressed lately with taking over for your dad.”
“True,” Sidon admitted that much with little argument. “But that doesn’t mean you need to slice your hands up trying to help me relax.”
You wilted slightly under his words, but nevertheless spent the next several minutes giving it a hearty attempt, until the roughness of his scales began to shred the gloves you wore in an ignorant plan to overcome such a problem. Ah.
Wonderful.
It did frustrate you though, feeling helpless to help your lover when you knew so well what he was dealing with. He could do the same for you; why wasn’t it fair?
The Prince could feel the growing aggregation in the air, the frustration behind your words when you finally whispered,
“I just want to make you feel good.”
He paused in thought for some time, lost in thought, before eventually turning around and slowly pulling you against his body. Water lapped at your skin and soaked in your clothes, though nether bothered you enough to pull your attention away from the prince’s charming smile.
“You are more than I deserve, dearest,” he murmured, gently cradling you against his chest. “But if you really want, there might be another thing we can do to make me feel good–something a little more mutual.”

M-may I have a little drabble (or a fic) abt Prince Sidon giving a back massage to a small Hylian/Human s\o??? Thank you!!!! (my back's been cramping and my shoulders are constantly tense so this would be v nice)
In all honesty, you had barely noticed it yourself. The tension, at least, not the pain that came with it. The pain was a constant presence in your mind, a distraction that sometimes pulled your focus away from things that mattered or, at worst, made you have to sit down and try to focus on simply ignoring it for a while.
For the longest time you simply thought you were standing too long. Maybe lifting too many heavy objects around the Domain, typically to help some of the shop keeps, were starting to take their toll on you. Maybe it was because you were bending incorrectly–there were a lot of maybes, but you came to the conclusion that the pain was an impossible thing to avoid, a byproduct of physical labor.
It was Sidon who pointed out that he could help. It came when he noticed you wincing, trying to lift a box of freshly-caught fish. After pointing out that your posture wasn’t the best, Sidon took the box from you, then moved it himself.
“My dear, I think you’ve been working too much.”
The words of concern would soon lead to him leading you back to your quarters, setting you down on the bed, and gently climbing on the bed behind you.
He rubbed his hands over your shoulders, careful for the sharp prick of his claws, and instantly let out a sheepish chuckle.
“You are so tense!” Sidon said. “And I don’t say that to seduce you in bed, dearest–when was the last time that you relaxed?”
The question came with no answer, or at least not one that was quick enough for your liking.
“I,” You started. “Uh. I don’t….know?”
“Wrong answer,” The prince huffed, leaning down enough to he could press a kiss to the top of your head. “If you overwork yourself, you’ll be even more pained–your muscles are tensed up so much that I’m surprised you haven’t gone to the healer for your pain.”
His fingers gently dug into your shoulders, pressing out the aches and pains that, while hurting in itself, was a good sort of pain. You could feel him gently working your muscles, softening them underneath.
“I will take your advice into consideration,” The words spilled from your mouth in a soft, slight tease; you were too focused on the gentle intimacy to bother for much more, almost leaning back against the other’s careful hands.
