charles has a design, and so does lenny. Colm has a ref at last and Owen O’Driscoll is now a sphinx+griffin hybrid. Design is directly lifted from @/skibiborg on twitter (with permission).

charles is just a skink plus buffalo hybrid thingie minotaur. His dad was a buffalo minostaur, mom was a lizard-taur. Thought it’d be cool if his scales are mostly hidden until he shaves his hair to mourn Arthur. He visibly is a hybrid and while that alone doesn’t cause much discomfort amongst the van dee linde gang, it makes humans very fearful of him. (Hybrids have a stereotype of being unpredictable because “oooh it’s a mix match of monster species, you never know how they might act!” To keep the idea of native + non native heritage, his mother was from a pack of monsters affiliated with a native community and historically has had a symbiotic relationship with them for generations. His dad wasn’t from this native-affiliated group but was brought into it to help raise charles with his mother. Up until humans do what humans always do and destroy land and families and etc :(

lenny is a jackalope. that came about because Br’er Rabbit and slave oral stories were discussed while brain storming lenny’s creature. We wanted to have some ties to Lenny’s in-game story. Many oral stories told of tricksters and or characters that outwit and bring hope. That felt fitting of Lenny. We also liked the idea of african american slave stories not being “made up” but based on real occurences they witnessed. And so oral stories of jackalopes outwitting the law became a thing. Fast as a hare, witty as a fox.
