Hey world. I felt like I needed a new project in my life so I found my way here. Within this space I'll post what ever doesn't fit into one of my side projects which have much more focus and direction. I'm still learning how to use Tumblr, something that seems like it should be a bit embarasing to admit.

GIF, GIFV, and Facebook problems.
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/Doing some quick research on what’s up with Facebook and GIFs. They’re strange. They work, sometimes. FB changes the rules on us and doesn’t advertise them well to start. But, what can we find about it’s limits? https://developers.facebook.com/docs/instant-articles/reference/animated-gif Suggests a 120px limit. Confession: not sure what scope the developers.facebook deets cover. Future project. https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1006874066021923 Suggests an apparent 4gb limit, but recommends <8MB and ends in .GIF. No reference to GIFV. Note this is Facebook/business and references features not available to the average user. https://community.imgur.com/t/gifreview-on-facebook/15059/19 A sweet tip mentions GIF is typically treated as an image, and GIFV is treated as a video. Also, “As a rule, GIF files under 15Mb work on FB, but no smaller than 5mb. For Twitter, you can upload GIF files under 5mb and they will autoplay. Pasting links do not work.“
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/video-uploads .gifv is not mentioned. See list of accepted formats for alternatives, however. https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/ https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/ Woah, this is exactly what is needed. Debugger >=D Now, combine with PSs Metadata editor... find a service which allows upload of files that we can point at FB.. ooorrr natively upload to FB?

GIF Bump: According to Tumblr Help, “If you’re posting an animated GIF, make sure it is no larger than 1.75 MB (July 2015 update: 2 MB) (February 2017 update: 3 MB) and no more than 500 pixels wide." Tumblr’s previous animated GIF size was no larger than 1 MB.
That said, I’ve successfully posted 500-pixel-wide GIFs at 1.967 MB, 1.972 MB and 1.996 MB. (The first two were paired in a photoset.) If the GIF is too large, such as more than 2 MB, Tumblr will grab the first frame of the animated GIF and post it as a static image. So if you’re exceeding 1.75 MB on your GIFs, try saving as a draft first to see if the images will keep their animation when posted.
Update in response to ronworkman: While Tumblr Help mentions 500 pixels in width as a GIF troubleshooting measure, yes, you can exceed the 500-pixel width on GIFs, as I have done for several GIFs on this blog.

Summery and Rough Thoughts on Istari
I’ve been slowly reading through Unfinished Tales, super excited to get to the origin of the Istari. It was taking so long I was worried I read through that chapter while half awake and didn’t remember it, but last night I got to it finally. Here’s a summery and some thoughts which might be cleaned up and given citation later. The Valar recognized they needed to send help to Middle Earth due to Sauron gaining power. In a meeting two Maiar volunteered, Four were asked to go. They would arrive starting 1000 years into the Third Age, arriving in secret except to Círdan. They would be in the bodies of Men, their angelic power lingering but limited. Two Blue Wizards would go into the East. Little is known of them. Saruman volunteered, a foreshadow to him abandoning his mission for his own devices. He was the White Wizard, head of the order, and thought to be the most powerful. He was also the first to arrive, showing the significance in his relative power. Middle Earth is a universe of decline; those who are born (or in this case, made into flesh) earlier are typically more powerful in their defining features and abilities.
The Brown Wizard, Radagast , was asked by Yavanna. He abandoned his mission to live with the plants and animals; perhaps a folly that could of been avoided if not asked by Yavanna. I question her wisdom, seeing she has mad made requests before (see the creation of Ents, although they turned out pretty good).
Gandalf the Grey Wizard was asked, and in his wisdom said he did not think he was a good choice. The Valar assured him his thoughts indicated he was the right choice. This wisdom was seen by Círdan and he was given the Ring of Fire.
A note about Gandal and fire; he seems to have an affinity with it. Fire, fireworks, the Ring of Fire and smoking pipe weed -- a list I do not think is exhaustive but all that comes to mind. He says he has the Flame of __ in him. This flame is even more radiant after coming back form the dead as Gandalf the White.
With this I’d like to note the significance of colour. Gandalf the Grey fears the power of Saruman the White, however Saruman declares himself to be of Many Colours. In doing this he, erm, reveals his true colours. Gandalf, as the White, defeats Saruman of Many Colours.
In an examination between Saruman and Gandalf, Tolkien’s theme of power corrupts shines through. This is not without a balance; wisdom seems to stabilize. Of all the wizards, Gandalf is the most wise. His wisdome later brings power and vicotry. I'm.I’m curious if this is a result of the Catholic artifacts in Tolkien’s works. Upon finishing one of the drafts of the Sillmarillion (I think) he discovers he’s created an allegory for Catholicism, which is not something he would like reflected in this writing. A massive overhaul removed this mostly although artifacts can still be found. In this case I’m learning towards, “The meek shall inherit the Earth,” (Mathew 5:5). While inheritance isn’t explicitly on the tables it should be noted the biggest players in Middle Earth are often hesitant, humble, and not very power. From our favorite hobbits to Gandalf himself this is seen. This is all off the top of my head and without citation, which I’ll gladly go grab for anyone who is interested or for reasons of discussion.

The Real Monsters are reborn!
Upon getting so much attention for my previous designs, I wanted to redesign the monsters and develop the concept a little more. You’ll notice most of the monsters have subtle alterations and the descriptions have been changed to better reflect my original concepts.
Disclaimer: The artwork is not at all intended to make light of these conditions but instead is intended to give these intangible mental illnesses some substance and make them appear more managable as physical entities.

Giacomo Carmagnola Juxtaposing the old and the new often makes for a compelling contrast. Giacomo Carmagnola’s ‘Acid’ series is no exception. Taking old photographs, film stills and other ephemera- Carmagnola inserts brilliant beams and fragments of glitchy pixel sorting into the scene. The result is a satisfying marriage of gothic moodiness and glitch. 7sobm : website | youtube | tumblr

It only seems right for me to begin this blog with the topic that inspired me to start it in the first place. Not too long ago, I came across Jamey Pittman’s “Pac-Man Dossier”, which is a ridiculously-detailed explanation of the mechanics of Pac-Man. I found it absolutely fascinating, so this...
