Is writing a life long passion?
My immediate response would be a resounding yes. But life is not always that black and white. Having said that, here are all the reasons I believe that writing is indeed for life. Three reasons to be precise. 1. It’s in the blood Being a writer brings with it a unique feeling. Like being part of something special. It’s a feeling that is impossible to let go of. Even through a writing dry spell…

The beauty of inspiration
While on my latest walk I came across a tree. A tree that had what appeared to be a vine creeping up it. But on closer inspection it was a branch. It appeared to be connected to the tree near the top. I haven’t seen anything quite like it. But it made me think of how nature can inspire us. In many different ways. From the warmth of the sun at the start of the day. To the incoming tide underneath…

It's photo time again
I’m at it again. Taking photos in random places. While out on a random walk. But if it helps stir up the creative juices, then why not. Quite often my creative flow ebbs, rather than, erm, flows. That’s when the dreaded procrastination monster strikes. I cope with that particular monster by walking and drinking coffee. Lately my walks have taken me to my local cemetery. I know that generates an…

Time flies
I can’t believe it’s been a month since my last blog post. Where does time go? I quite often kick myself when I let time slip away. I think about the blog posts that I could have written. The work I could have achieved on my WIP. One moment, I’m scrolling through my story, and the next moment four weeks have passed me by. I suppose it’s all part of being a writer. It’s also part of getting older.…

More WIP editing
Lately I’ve been brushing up on my WIP. There is still lots to do before I can say it is ready to be published. I need to tie up loose ends, expand on a few chapters, cut down others and bring it all together at the end. Easier said than done. As I was doing all that ten years ago. And I promised a group of friends that I would have my book published by the end of 2015. So what went wrong? Well…

More photo inspiration
I’ve been enjoying the warmer weather, and the writing inspiration that it brings. And as you do, I’ve taken a few photos here and there. I took the photo below to capture the moment. I find walking, especially on a nice day, helpful when generating story ideas. I’m sure I’m not the only one. I still procrastinate lots, and some might say that going out for a walk instead of writing is doing just…

Inspiration from nature
Hello fellow writers. Here I am again, putting up photos on my blog. Once again it’s the beauty of nature. This is a shot taken in my local woodland area. Near the end of the day. Going for a walk relaxes me and brings me closer to my writing goals. It’s good to get the brain working, and to feel the cogs whirring. Next time I’m going to experiment with filters. It’s something I used to dabble…

Twilight: Eclipse special effects
Pretty much everyone knows that the latest instalment in the Twilight saga is about to hit Cinema screens across the US and UK and the media world is aflame with news and views about the stars of the film. But what about the talent that is rarely seen, those people who beaver away for many hours, days and months on the special effects. I had a quick trawl through the internet to find out who was responsible for the special effects in Eclipse and found that as usual IMDB came up trumps. It's easier to find out who directs the film and even easier to find out who stars in the film but those responsible for the effects are often hard to find. IMDB gave a list of names for the team involved in creating the special effects but I couldn't find a name for the effects company.
Anyway I wanted to talk about the wolves to look at how far effects have come since the cult classic, An American Werewolf in London. Although the latter film used an entirely different type of effect (animatronics) it is the progression of special effects in general that I want to look at. The money shot in this film has to be the transformation from human to werewolf. Animatronic effects don't play much of a role in modern cinema as CGI has proved itself to be more realistic. However Weta, the special effects team behind The Lord of the Rings is currently working on an adaptation of The Wind in the Willows which will use Animatronics to bring the characters to life. Eclipse has already been praised for its use of special effects and from what I've seen so far they look impressive. I had to skip through a few trailers to get to the wolves just to see them in action and its fair to say that CGI has come a long way since films like Jurassic Park.
Well that's all for now. I will however continue to check out the latest films and their effects. That all for now folks.
