having another dyke call you a dyke is like hearing a chorus of angels sing your name. it’s pure joy wrapped up in one word. you see me and i see you. there is nothing like the community and connection you can have with another dyke.

Bit of Irish Witch Lore

Ireland’s list of horrific witches is short.  Witches in Ireland were still considered wicked, but their activities to their other European counterparts differ.  Don’t think that they couldn’t do the things the others could. They were said to make life wither with corn cobs and cursed kisses, raise storms, and steal milk. Their malefic power was palpable. However, modern Irish folklore says that their witches are simply not angry with them. They didn’t threaten them with torch and noose, so the witches didn’t retaliate with their horrors.  Ireland accepted the witches as another part of life, even if it was a bitter or strange one.

If you’re butch, your body is butch. Your boobs are butch, your hips are butch, your narrow shoulders or short stature are butch. Butchness does not have to be about passing as a man or achieving that lanky teen boy androgyny that’s pushed on us. Just being as we are is butch. It’s about us making and taking our space in the world, not fitting into a narrow standard of masculinity.
