Audrey and Ariana, my two best girls 💕

A bit of background; Ariana’s parents (Lady Rhea and Lord Jedrick) are somehow more neglectful towards their eldest than Aurora and Phillip are. They never wanted a daughter, something Ari knows well, and they favor her little brother Adonis who usurped her chance at gaining a more official ruling title in Auroria. Safe to say she’s a bit of a wild child, lashing out and being cruel towards others due to lack of parental guidance growing up and a need to be seen.

Ariana and Audrey weren’t close until later—they were intense rivals in their youth—but their relationship changed to something more maternal after the events of D3. Auds (and Chad, technically, since they’re married) are standing in as Ari’s guardians while she attends Auradon Prep for her Sophomore year. Audrey, still just barely an adult herself, feels responsible for her cousin’s wellbeing despite how…hard to handle…she can be at times.

(I know in the books Ariana and Audrey are technically the same age, but that doesn’t make any sense in the context of the films/this HC so Ariana is about three-ish years younger than Audrey.)

Ariana and Hadie give me major Hades and Persephone vibes. How's their story gonna go?

I haven’t written Hadie and Ariana’s story yet, at least not fully, so the decision to have her go down into the Underworld with Hadie wasn’t planned until just recently. It was originally just a little slice of life, trying to make it through the school year.

Ari’s a highly independent young lady with a fiery temper and a loud presence—she certainly has no issues handling herself. Hadie on the other hand is very easy going and can even come off a bit shy; but he’s also incredibly protective and is a very dangerous person to anger (being a demigod and all).

I assume something happens, resulting in Ari getting hurt or threatened in some way (you can see one of my previous posts for some angst). Hadie isn’t going to let that fly and decides to take her down into the underworld in order to keep her safe—something that looks really bad in the eyes of Auradon (based on how Hades technically stole his lover too). Ari herself doesn’t necessarily mind, as she finds Auradon grating and would much rather be with her man lol

Those markings on her are the result of Hadie using his magic to heal/numb her pain; and magic tends to linger when it comes to the Rose family line.

“It hurts.” Ariana wheezed into his ear, forehead brushing against his wintery temple. She continued to struggle, clenching her jaw as ice crawled under her skin one lingering inch at a time. Even the fire which flickered near Hadie’s hairline was cold, billowing freezing air against her cheek. He was death…his magic was that of the underworld. How easy it was to forget. “Everything hurts.”

“I know, my love. I know.” Hadie’s hand clenched deeper into her thigh, pushing the numbing magic through the skin. “Just hold still, I’ve got you.”

“Dear, sweet Constance. Poor child! Poor, poor child. Did you know that her mother supposedly killed her father in a fit of rage? Found an axe and took his head off in a single swipe. It’s supposedly still in the house somewhere, just bones and a wandering spirit. Mon dieu! How tragic. How horrible!”

I like to think Constance taking the heads of her husbands is a learned habit. It was, after all, what mother did to father when he threatened to leave them.

‘When a man threatens to turn tail, or has eyes for a younger broad, take his head so he’s yours forever. Don’t let that dog run, Constance. Best to put him down swiftly.”

At least…that’s what Dame Peatcleaver used to tell her young daughter when she allowed her to hold father’s beheaded skull, a hatchet still in his head.

Enamored

Chad has been in love with Audrey since the day they first met. He didn’t even know what love was back then, just that he caught it and refused to let it go. It made him angry and bitter that Ben got to live out his dream beside the love of his life, but he refused to break Audrey’s heart first, knowing Ben would one day do it himself. Chad would wait for her. He would always wait.

It took Audrey a lot longer to learn what love was, fed lies and expectations her entire life about what it was supposed to be. It took reaching her breaking point—surpassing a place no mere mortal was meant for—to finally open her eyes. To let her see that the person she was always hoping for was there, even though she didn’t deserve it. He always waited for her, and she had finally found him.

It took so long for Chad and Audrey to see each other clearly, but now that they can, they are enamored. Enamored by the emotions, by each other, and by the beauty they’ve found. The love they share is as true as love can be. It’s rare love. Exceptional, even. Not because it was made through magic or upon first sight, but because they sacrificed so much to have it, and will sacrifice even more to keep it. Fairytale love is flimsy. Love forged in time, fire, and steel is far less likely to break.
