The prince waited until the clock struck eleven. He thought that this should be late enough and to say that he was getting impatient at that point would be an understatement.
He wasn’t dressed fancy by any means, in just a white saggy shirt and black pants. As much as he enjoys dressing up and showing others his wealth, the prince always preferred dressing casual if he didn’t have a busy day with meetings or other royal responsibilities to attend. Before he left his chambers, Satoru still decided to wear a cloak in case any person that was currently in the royal library would recognize him and make a huge deal out of his presence there. After all, even if he didn’t try to stand out, his white hair and striking blue eyes could be easily recognized by anyone. Also, the palace was too guarded for someone to become concerned if they randomly saw a person dressed in a cloak around so that fact alone wouldn’t be a problem in his way.
The library was quiet but not quite empty yet. The prince successfully made it in without being recognized by any of the scholars of the court that were still reading in silence. He roamed the many rows of books a few times, yet he didn’t catch a glimpse of anyone, he didn’t rush at all and was also willing to wait for a while yet…this seemed too easy.
A lot of thoughts were rushing into Satoru’s mind as the riddle was in the middle of them. The only word that suggested to a place in that riddle was “meadow”. The library is quite big, but there are not a lot of small rooms in it that might resemble a meadow. The area with children books is too obvious and the prince figured that you would have no reason to spend your time there.
But…there is a place that is well hidden much like the meadow in the novel. The library’s storeroom would fit the criteria. That room is incredibly small, more like a closet rather than a room and it can be found in the corner of the right far end of the library. Not many people know about it since the librarians mainly use it to store old books that are too worn down to be handled or that have newer version that have improved content in them. When they were kids, Satoru, Suguru and Shoko were spending a lot of time there since no one would’ve thought to look for them there.
The prince slowly approached the storeroom and the door was cracked open, a bit of light was coming from the inside.
“That’s it.” The prince thought.
He stepped inside carefully, in order not to scare you. And there you were, facing the rows of books, seemingly searching for one as a lamp was sitting on a tall row of books that were on the floor right next to you. The prince turned around to close the door so the two of you can talk without the risk of getting heard and bothered by anyone else but as he was about to touch the door he knocked over a small tower of books that was right by the entrance and the sound got your attention.
You didn’t see his face but judging by how tall he was, and the fact that he was wearing a cloak, you assumed he must be a knight patrolling the library since it was already this late at night.
“I was just dusting the shelves. I’m sorry to be out here so late.” You tried to excuse yourself, bowing your head down, even though all the knights knew that the maids were not working from 11 pm to 4 am. But it felt a bit weird. Knights were not usually patrolling in this part of the library. They were usually more busy around the royal chambers especially at nighttime.
Gojo turned around and wanted to talk, but as soon as he faced you, your head was up again and you finally took a look at him. Your jaw dropped in shock as you noticed the white of his hair, mostly hidden by the cloak, and his striking blue eyes.
“Your royal high-“ you tried to talk and bow, almost falling down as he rushed to you and covered your mouth with his hand. He hushed you as you looked up at him confused.
“Don’t call me that or we’re going to get unwanted attention. And keep your voice down. Okay? You can do that, right?” The prince asked whispering as he looked straight into your eyes.
After hesitating for a moment, you nodded and he took his hand off smiling.
“How…should I call you then?” you asked as you looked down fidgeting with the sleeve of your uniform.
“Uh…I don’t know, but if you called me like that it would definitely grab someone’s attention so…for now my name should do.”
“I can’t possibly do that.”
“Why not? Don’t tell me you don’t know it.” The prince tried to joke.
“Of course I know it. I just can’t disrespect you like that, your royal-“ before you got to continue, Satoru hushed you again and you stopped talking looking away embarrassed.
“Would you do it if I ordered you to?” he tried to propose.
“Do what?”
“Call me by my name.” the prince declared and as soon as you sighed he knew he won. After a moment of silence you opened your mouth.
“As you wish…Satoru.”
“That wasn’t that hard now, was it?” he smiled “And since we’re introducing ourselves, you’re [name]. Am I right?”
“Yes…that’s right.”
Well, that’s a surprise for sure. Everyone knows that the prince can’t bother to even remember the names of his personal maids and butlers, but for him to know your name? You were just a simple maid and besides…you don’t think you ever exchanged a single word with him up until tonight, right? Then how did he know-
Oh.
From Suguru.
That’s how. That is literally the only way in which his royal highness would’ve known of your existence, at least that’s clearly the first thing that comes to mind, considering the close friendship the lord has with the prince. But Suguru promised he would never get you into trouble…then what is this situation in the first place. Before you go the chance to think more about it, you were interrupted.
“So…what are you really doing here?” the prince inquired.
“I…I was- uh…”
You didn’t know what to do. Should you lie? Should you tell the truth? It wasn’t like you were doing something illegal… but it’s still something that a maid shouldn’t be doing. But you have to tell the truth in the end right? After all, lying to the royal family can sometimes be considered treason and a light punishment is better than a harsher one.
“I was…bringing a book back.” you admitted.
“Aren’t books supposed to be given back to one of the librarians? And also, this is a storeroom for old books that are out of use so this is clearly not the place where it should go.” He looked down at you, albeit a bit suspicious, when you make a library card these things are being explained to you. And Suguru and Shoko were heavily suggesting that you were smart, so you should know that.
“It is the right place…because I took the book from here in the first place.” You looked down a bit ashamed.
“But books from here cannot be borrowed. It says that in the library rules.”
“I know that. I’m really sorry about this. I promise it won’t happen again-” you continued to look down, hoping that you wouldn’t face a tough punishment.
“Why?” the prince asked.
“…what?”
“You knew that this isn’t allowed. Yet you did it anyway.” He smiled “And I’m sure you knew that things that aren’t allowed will be punished. That part is common sense. So riddle me this: you, a person who apparently doesn’t like to be in the center of attention, would do this, a thing that would clearly make heads turn around if the truth came to light, which it did right now.”
“I-I just-” you sighed. “I just wanted to read them. That’s all. Every book that I’ve borrowed from here was back in its place in a few days at most. I did not do this to steal or anything like that.”
“Alright, you like to read, but why from here? These aren’t even that good to read anymore. You would be better off reading from the main library.”
“I can’t read from there.”
“If it’s because you don’t have one of those library cards you could easily make one.” the prince added.
“You don’t understand, Satoru. Even if I wanted to make one I can’t.”
You took a deep breath trying to calm down and not say anything that will show how you actually feel about this situation. Of course he didn’t catch on it earlier. He can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. He doesn’t have to hide in order to do the things he wishes to do.
“Maids aren’t allowed to borrow books from the library. We work daily, almost all day, so even if we were allowed to, we wouldn’t have time to read them. I only read at night so I don’t get in trouble for slacking off.” After you told him that you looked back up at him and he seemed a bit...sad.
“Oh, I didn’t know that.” he stopped talking for a second but an idea seemed to come to him “that’s why you take them from here…is it not? The books from here aren’t being verified every day… so you could take from here without anyone noticing unlike the books from the main library.”
“That’s right…but it doesn’t matter anymore…but what…will happen now? Will I be suspended? Fired?” You knew that taking books like that would have consequences but you couldn’t say exactly how big they would be, considering you didn’t know anyone to have done this before, if anyone ever did.
“No, You won’t.”
“But I shouldn’t have done that. It’s against the rules. You said it as well just now.”
“I know what I said... But I don’t think you did a bad thing, [name]. You just wanted to do something you liked. And it’s not like you were making problems for others by doing this. I won’t punish you for doing something like that…however you won’t be doing this anymore. You can’t risk anyone else catching you here. Not everyone will let this go as I did.”
You nodded, deciding this outcome is better than you could’ve expected. Yes, it’s sad that you won't read anymore, but at least you didn’t have to go through a hard time because of all the reading you did so far. Bowing, you got the lamp from the place it sat on and you were ready to leave when Gojo grabbed your wrist.
“I wasn’t done talking, [name].”
“Oh, I didn’t realise- I apologise.” Stopping in your tracks you put the lamp nearby again and waited for him to continue.
“I said that you shouldn’t be doing this anymore, but I got a deal for you instead.”
“A deal? Satoru, I don’t have anything to give you in exchange. In case it slipped your mind, I’m a maid, as in: maid working for you, in your palace.”
“We can discuss the details later. Can’t you just hear me out before you jump to refuse me? Are you always this pessimistic?” he smiled.
“I’m not.” You rushed to admit but realized you fell right into his trap.
Gojo started laughing as quietly as he could and you couldn’t help but chuckle as well.
“What is the deal then?”
“Glad you asked. Follow me.” He extended his hand and waited for you to take it.

“His Royal Highness was looking for you, my lord.”
If only Suguru had a coin for every time he heard that exact sentence in the past 20 minutes. The walk from the gardens to the crown prince’s chambers shouldn’t have taken more than 8 minutes, a few more if the staircase was in the middle of being moped but that only happens really early in the morning and really late at night, and at this moment it was neither of them. At least 12 servants that were doing their jobs stopped Suguru on the way to his office, letting him know that the crown prince was looking around for him not long ago. Sighing, the dark haired man decided to go to the prince’s chambers and see what he wanted.
Upon reaching the door, and not hearing any noise from inside, Suguru thought that the prince might still be out and about, and he entered without knocking.
Turns out that not only the prince was inside, but he was pouting as well as he was sitting on the window sill.
“What’s with the pout, Satoru? Missed me too much?” Suguru smirked as he approached him and took a seat on the other side of the sill.
“As if.” Satoru scoffed. “I’m just…deep in thought.”
“Oh, that’s certainly new. Weren’t you the smartest in this palace? That’s clearly what you boasted about around the place, last week. But don’t forget Satoru-“ Suguru came closer and put his hand on the prince’s shoulder “it’s more than okay to ask for help sometimes, it’s a proof of your maturity actually-”
Satoru slapped the hand away before Suguru had the chance to continue talking.
“Ouch.” the dark haired man faked a pained expression. “Seems like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.”
“It’s your fault I’m like this in the first place.”
“My fault?? How is this my fault?” Suguru asked, genuinely confused.
“Who’s that girl from earlier?” the prince went right to the point.
“What girl?”
“Don’t act dumb, Suguru. You know who I’m talking about.”
The lord sighed “On the way here I was stopped by multiple servants, most of them being girls, telling me about the fact that you were looking for me, so I’m afraid you'll have to give me a bit more than just the fact that she was a girl, then maybe, I will know who you are talking about.”
“The girl from the garden! The one that was hanging the laundry. The one that you seemed awfully close to. Is this enough information for you?” Satoru inquired bitterly.
A smile stretched on Suguru’s face. “Ah, I see now. What about her?”
“Huh? What’s the deal with her? I never saw you that close with a girl, much less a servant.” Satoru remarked annoyed.
“What, you jealous? Don’t worry, Satoru. She won’t steal me from you. You’ll always be my one and only-“
The crown prince narrowed his eyes, interrupting his bestfriend again, with no shame whatsoever. “Jealous my ass. It’s pure curiosity. I’ve tried to make you talk with girls from the court or from foreign nations, for years, yet you never even glance towards them a second time. Yet, this maid seemed to have your attention without breaking a sweat.”
A short laugh escaped Suguru’s lips. “If you’re insinuating what I think you are, you can stop right there. Me and [name] are just good friends, nothing happened between us and nothing will ever happen.”
“Then what is it about her? I’ve seen her from afar but she doesn’t seem that big of a deal.”
“You have a bad habit of judging people based on their appearances, you know that’s not something a future good leader must do, right?”
Satoru’s face flushed ashamed.
“Of course I know that. And it’s not exactly judging-“
“It is.”
Satoru groaned. “Fine, I’ll chose my words more…carefully next time. But seriously what’s the deal with her?”
“She’s just a good friend and a nice company when I need to take breaks from your chaos.”
“Rude.”
“You’ll live.” Suguru smiled.
“So when do I get to meet her?”
“You won’t.” Suguru answered without thinking twice.
“And why is that?” Satoru inquired a bit offended.
“The last thing she needs, or would want for that matter, is to be center of attention, or even worse, to be roped into any of your schemes.”
“You make me sound like a villain of some sort.” The crown prince scoffed.
“From certain points of view you might be, yes.” The duke challenged.
“Hmph. Why does it seem like sometimes you forget that you’re talking with the crown prince?”
“Come on, Satoru, if everyone acted respectfully towards you or if they let you think you’re right all the time, you would become spoiled, or like, even more spoiled than you already are.”
Satoru hummed acknowledging what Suguru just said, but he seemed distracted for a moment, it seemed like he’s deep in thought again.
“What are you thinking about now?” asked Suguru as his eyes narrowed.
“What if…you don’t directly tell me how to meet her...but you give me a hint on how to find her. I mean, in that case it’s only a…50% chance I would actually find her. What about this?”
“Since I have a feeling you won’t drop this anytime soon, why not.”
The prince smiled victorious and waited for Suguru to think of something. A few minutes later, Suguru started chuckling.
“I got one.”
“Okay. Go on.” The prince nodded.
“You might find her...if you fall asleep in a meadow.”
“And?” Satoru waited for his friend to continue but he shook his head.
“That’s all.”
“What? How am I supposed to find her based on that?”
“Sounds like a you problem if you ask me.” Suguru added.
“Fine. But sooner or later, I will find her and I will see for myself if she’s such a nice person as you claim she is.”
Tumblr media
A few days later the crown prince started getting annoyed. At first, he thought he can cheat and find you at the place where he saw you first, but over the next few days since the talk with Suguru, there were other maids working out there. Then, he thought he might just ask a random maid about you when he sees one, but then he quickly realized that was dumb, because there were thousands of maids working in the palace, some never see each other much less know each other’s names.
In every free moment that the prince had, his mind would wonder to Suguru’s hint.
“You might find her if you fall asleep in a meadow.”
One more thing that Satoru thought about, but didn’t have time for until the weekend, was going for a walk in the gardens hoping that he might spot you around there.
The gardens are like some sort of meadow, right?
Maybe you were assigned gardening work sometimes, it wouldn’t really make sense since the palace hired a lot of gardeners especially for taking care of the entire area, but what does he know about this kind of stuff really.
Satoru spent his entire weekend taking walks while scouting the entire area for you, hoping he’d at least see you once while passing, but he didn’t. However, he seemed to meet someone else in the gardens instead.
“I have to admit, I don’t think I’ve seen you spending so much time in the royal gardens since we were kids.” Shoko laughed as she gestured the bench she was sitting on, signaling the prince to take a seat.
“It’s not by choice unfortunately.” Satoru sighed as he sat down.
“I thought you were only doing the things that you wanted, something about being royalty and never having to listen to anyone.” The duchess laughed.
“You and Suguru seem to find pleasure in criticizing the things I say lately.”
“Well, if two people say the same things, without talking beforehand about it, that might mean they’re right.” Shoko smiled.
“What brings you here? Studying plants for your medicine exams?”
“Yes. It’s nice to study outside from time to time, the library is sometimes parched with people, so the best options to not be bothered by noise is either to read somewhere else or to read at night when there’s barely any people left.” Satoru nodded as Shoko finished explaining “What about you? What brings you out here?”
“A stupid riddle.”
Shoko giggled. “I thought you liked riddles…but I don’t think it’s just a normal riddle, am I right?”
“If I guess then I can find someone, but Suguru has been too vague.”
“Suguru is the one who riddled you? This has suddenly got even more interesting, who do you have to find?”
“A maid, [name], I think that's how Suguru called her. I caught her and Suguru once chatting and they seemed very close. But Suguru won't let me meet her.”
“Oh, I wouldn’t have let you either. [name] is a really nice girl, you would just get her in trouble.”
“You know her, too?” Satoru exclaimed surprised.
“I do. We don’t see each other often, and maybe we’re not as good friends as she is with Suguru, but she’s a good and smart person.”
“Then…do you think you can help me? With the riddle? Suguru said that I might find her if I fall asleep in a meadow, but as much as I hate to admit it, this is harder than I anticipated. I searched everywhere in the royal gardens and I came up with nothing. And there are no meadows close to the palace either, well as far as I’m aware anyway, but I know the surroundings almost like the back of my hand.”
Shoko burst out laughing. “That is so easy. You overcomplicated yourself so bad.” she continued “Satoru, do you remember our favorite activity in the rainy days? What me, you and Suguru would do every time we weren’t at the palace together?”
“We would send letters.” Satoru responded quickly.
“You need more than that. What would we talk about in said letters?”
“Hmm…we talked about a lot of stuff but I guess we talked the most about the books we read.”
“You’re getting there. What was the one book you would not stop comparing all the others about?”
“Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland?”
“And what happens at the beginning of the book, Satoru? Where is Alice and what does she do?”
It took him less than a second to finally realise.
“She falls asleep-“ Satoru’s eyes widened “in a meadow!”
“There you go.”
“The library…how did I not realise before, you and Suguru wouldn’t shut up about how she’s smart. I should’ve seen it.”
“Well, its better late than never.” Shoko commented.
The prince got up quick but he remembered what his friends said. “She doesn’t like to be the center of attention” Suguru told him. And Shoko mentioned that the only moment the library is not full is at night…
“Thank you, Shoko. I owe you one.” Satoru smiled as he started walking away.
Seems like he has plans tonight.

Mammon likes to sleep. What he doesn't like though, is to wake up in the middle of the night and realise you were out of bed again.
Fandom: Obeyme!SWD
Mammon x gn!reader
(Maybe he's a bit ooc but yeah)
wc: ~0.4k
cw: stress, burnout, a bit of swearing, petnames(treasure), established relationship, crying
A/N: this was my way to cope with exam stress :) I hope you like it
The demon woke up after feeling your side of the bed cold, again for like the third time this week.
This stops tonight.
After getting up groaning, he checked his D.D.D.
3:16 am.
Damn it. How long were you even awake for at this point?
Mammon got out of his room and walked to yours. After knocking for a few times, all without answer, he decided to just go in.
You were sitting at your desk with headphones on as you were flipping through the pages of some books.
"[Name]."
No answer. He tried calling you again.
The boy sighed. He really didn't want to scare you so he just walked next to your desk and slowly put his hand on your shoulder.
You jumped slightly and took the headphones off.
"Mams? What are you doing here?"
"I was about to ask ya the same question, treasure." He sighed smiling slightly. "I thought we talked about this."
"I know, I know. But I promise I just have like 2 pages left and I'll come back to bed-"
"Treasure-" he tried to interrupt you.
"Mams, I'm being serious this time, I really have just-"
"[Name]."
You stopped as he cupped your cheek.
"[Name]. Yer the most hard-working person I know. You studied nonstop this year. I know yer stressed with your exams...but you just have to have faith in yourself. I know you'll be fine. I promise you will. As much as ya hate to admit...yer a bit burnout. And that's okay too. Allow yourself to take a break. If ya want I can even try to help you in the morning. For now just...come back to bed...come back with me, kay?"
You looked up at your boyfriend. Tears were starting to flood your eyes. He knew. He didn't bring it up until tonight but he knew. Of course he did. He was more observant than others often gave him credit for.
You nodded and got up closing the books.
Mammon offered his hand to you.
"Ready to go back to bed, treasure?" He smiled.
"Yeah. I'm ready."
...
Back in bed
"Mams?" You said after you two settled back in bed.
"Yeah, treasure?"
"I'm sorry. And thank you."
"Ya don't have to thank me. I'll always be here."
"I love you, Mammon."
"I love you more, treasure." He started brushing your hair gently with his fingers, lulling you to sleep.
Everything will be alright. Because your boyfriend promised it would. And he never breaks a promise.
A/N: thank you for reading :)

casual
suguru geto x f!reader
**loosely based on casual by my beloved chappell roan
in the three months that you spend with suguru geto, he leaves a sour taste in your mouth – not only because he taste like black coffee. and in the two months that follow, before your deeply unfortunate circumstantial reunion, the last three words that you uttered to him, the sentiment behind them, only seems to grow.
you can go to hell.
and it’s all you can think when he shows up to the emergency room – a pinkish sunburn across his nose, his hair messily tied back – and eyes dripping in a concern that fills you with a rage. and it’s a deep sigh that he gives you, before reaching for your hand.
“what happened to you, peach?”
--
the general education class that you choose to satisfy your values and ethics inquiry is the sociology of religion. counting all the stakes – a stellar review on rate my professors, a night class at the start of the week, and minimal homework – it makes for the most ideal choice.
“so what’s your major?”
the downside? the midterm and final project are group assignments. and on any other occasion, you would have appreciated it – getting to split the work, taking some of the load off and sharing the work with someone, except for the fact that you didn’t know anyone in the class – and for the most part, you were expecting some half-brained idiot that would make you do all the work.
you suppose it’s at least fair that he’s not horrible to look at. in the dimmed lights of your apartment, there’s something almost off putting about your partner, suguru geto. you count seven piercings across his ears – dangling silver pieces almost shining in the glint of the light – and the smallest rim of purple around his eyes. harsh cheekbones, a hard jaw, and wrinkles by his eyes.
“educational studies. what’s yours?” you state.
“computer science.”
you hum in response, filling the two glasses with water and snatching one of the peaches from its container before taking your seat across from him, noting that he has a dimple on the left side when he smiles in response to your gesture.
“did you want some?” you ask, holding the peach in between the two of you.
he shakes his head, slumping against the counter in what seems an almost unnatural pose – his long limbs spreading into the space underneath your chair. you wonder if he always had an unusual way of taking up space.
and it seems that as time goes on, he gets more and more unusual. quietly working through the portions that you split up, except for a few deep breaths here and there, though he would stop once in a while and would almost ask for approval of what he had written, waiting for some confirmation from you that it was okay with him.
“you’re comparing adam and eve to…orpheus? i’m not really familiar with that.” you state.
suguru nods, before turning towards you to explain. his eyes waver in the slightest as he turns over to you, his gaze flitting down to your lips, before looking back up at you.
“you don’t have to be polite. you really can have some if you want, it’s really sweet.” you state.
suguru smiles.
“maybe later.”
you shrug.
“so orpheus…”
“it’s a really old greek myth. orpheus and eurydice. to kind boil it down, eurydice is in the underworld with hades. and orpheus is trying to convince hades to let her return to the mortal world, with him.”
he scoots his chair a little bit closer to you and you’re able to note one thing – that there’s a resonance in his voice, that it hums in his chest when he talks.
“hades tells him that he’ll let him take eurydice with him, but on one condition. she has to walk behind him.”
“that’s not that hard.”
suguru grins.
“isn’t it?” he asks.
you pause.
“you’re being told by this big, all powerful god, that she’s walking behind you. but you can’t look. you wouldn’t even consider the fact that you were being fooled? that maybe she had decided not to follow?”
“i mean, i guess. i don’t think it would really cross my mind, i…i think i’d just follow out all the way til the end because i’d kind of have faith if that’s what i was promised. and that she’d want to come with me too.”
suguru pauses, like he’s almost taking in what you’ve said – like it’s the first time he’s heard it – and responds rather slowly.
“you’re rather trusting, aren’t you?”
you roll your eyes.
“is that such a bad thing? what do you think about it?”
suguru shrugs.
“it was a worthless pursuit in the first place. there was no way that he wouldn’t have turned around and looked back.”
“what do you mean?”
“it’s simple. he loves her. if he hears something that deceives him – like the sound of her tripping over a rock – and he doesn’t think. he looks back. if he thinks that she isn’t there, he won’t be able to get over it and he’ll turn around.”
you pause, mulling the thought over. and you suppose it’s true – that if you really did love something, it would be almost impossible not to check for the promise of their presence.
“i guess. so what? she goes back to the underworld.”
“yeah. it’s one of the most tragic love stories.”
“i guess it’s kind of romantic. that he loved her so much that he had to look back, like it was almost an instinct.”
and in the split second that the two of you stare at each other, he leans forward, pressing his lips to yours, with the strong taste of coffee lingering on his lips.
you’ve kissed three people before in your life – the boy you sat next to in the seventh grade, your date to the prom, and now suguru geto.
the first was overwhelming. a quick locking of the lips, that at the time, made you nearly erupt into a puddle of butterflies. the second was lackluster. waxy from too much chapstick, abrupt from the fact that he was quick to shove his tongue in your mouth.
and the third was indescribable. only because you could feel it – something lingering under his demeanor that you couldn’t exactly place. there wasn’t a word for the feeling it gave you – though there was one that was close enough.
curiosity. about what that feeling is, about who suguru geto was, and why he felt so inclined to kiss you upon your third meeting.
you wanted more of it.
“you’re right, you know?” he murmurs, breath warm against your lips.
“about being trusting?”
he laughs.
“no. about the peach. it really is sweet.”
he leans back, eyes fixed on the reading in front of the two of you again, as you reach up to touch your lips, the sticky sweetness of the fruit gone from your skin.
--
suguru comes around often after the fact. always here and there, an almost abrupt and concise text testing the waters.
[suguru]: is your roommate home?
[you]: nope. she’s at the district.
[suguru]: can i keep you company?
[you]: okay!
and he always arrives promptly twenty minutes after the fact, to the point where you wondered if he lingered around just to get there as fast as he could. and never empty handed – with dinner, dessert, or a flower that he plucked out of the cement in his hands.
that was the thing that confused you about him.
after the very first time you kissed, he had made one thing very clear.
no attachments. you’re not together.
but yet, he’d show up sometimes and do nothing but kiss your forehead and sleep in your bed next to you. or make you do something entirely mundane – like watch toy story three with a sheet of cookies in your oven – or watch you study.
and in the two weeks you had known him, you knew better than to question. your curiosity never stopped you, but you found that you were always left with more questions than the vague answers that he gave you.
“hey peach?”
“yeah?”
“your mom is calling.”
you widen your eyes, immediately snatching the phone from him, and giving him a weary smile. and you side shuffle into the walkway between the laundry and your bedroom, pressing the phone to your ear and murmuring under your breath.
“hi mom.”
“hi doll. how’s class?”
you pick at the loose thread of your sweater, nearly breaking the seams of the sleeve, eyeing suguru’s curious eyes – that he’s very poignantly trying to hide – from the kitchen.
“they’re good, ma. what’s up?”
“right. i’m so sorry to do this to you, my sweet, but i won’t be home when you get back.”
“what?”
“we’re going on a trip to see sheila in new york. and well, her vacation is only during those dates and we want to spend as much time with her as we can.”
you sigh, the frustration tempering in yoru chest.
“i already paid for the tickets. i saved up for a month trying to buy a flight back.”
“darling, i know. i’m really sorry, but you know how it is. she just gets so stressed out that we just wanted to go out there and make her holiday nice.”
“and what about my holiday? you don’t want me to have a nice christmas with my family?”
you can feel it burning in your cheeks – that embarrassing feeling that’s been simmering in your chest since you were kid. a mix of an insurmountable amount of envy and dejection, from trying to vie for attention from the second that you realized you never had it.
“don’t try to make me feel guilty.” she scolds
“i’m not trying to make you feel guilty! i just wished you would have thought about me too.”
you hear an irritated sigh on the end of the line, which is your first sign that you had made a mistake. because if there was one thing you knew how to do, it was push your mom’s buttons.
you wonder if it’s because she sees herself in you – and that utter hatred that she has for herself was now placed on you instead.
“do you always have to be so curt with me?”
“i’m not being curt, i just…”
“maybe when i die, you’ll think back and wished that you had appreciated me more. been more understanding that i’m not just your mother, i am someone’s friend too. that i have my own life. and that at the very least, my friends like to call me here and there. acknowledge me while you do god knows what wherever you are.”
“okay, well, i –”
“enjoy your christmas. we’ll see you in the spring.” she states.
there’s a static on the other end of the line and you drop your phone, staring at the dark screen in your hands for the few seconds that follow. and you must have been standing there for too long, because a few minutes later quiet footsteps accompany you in the dimly lit hallway, suguru’s head obscuring the light from the bulb.
“hi peach.”
“did you hear all of that?”
“no.” he responds.
you look up at him and glare. and he reaches forward, hands soft on your cheek wiping away the wetness that you hadn’t noticed. you’re not sure when you started crying.
“you’re a liar. if you’re one thing, it’s nosy.” you respond.
he smiles.
“maybe when it comes to you. what happened?”
you shake your head, his grabby hands coming around your waist as he presses you closer to his chest. you can hear his heart thumping against your ear, the metal of his necklace cold on your cheek, as you heave a sigh.
“nothing.”
“oh, come on, peach.”
you look up at him, expectant and full brown eyes waiting for an answer, as you give in.
“i just thought i would be going home next week for break. but i think i’m just going to stay here.”
“because your parents are going to…”
“see their friends in new york.”
suguru frowns. you can’t tell if it’s pity in his eyes.
“it’s not a big deal. i just was expecting to go home, that’s all. and it’s not that big of a deal that i’m going to stay here, the weather is nice and it’s probably frigid cold there.”
suguru pauses.
“you’re going to be here alone?”
“yeah. my roommate is from the east coast.”
“you should come home with me, for break.”
you look up at him, eyes wide.
“what?”
“s’not that far from here, i usually just make the drive. there’s a nice coffee shop on the way that i always stop at for some energy. and my mom is really nice.”
you shake your head, almost too violently.
“i can’t just go home with you. i wouldn’t want to impose.”
suguru pulls back, his fingers fast on the screen, as he murmurs under his breath, his voice uncharacteristically soft.
“you’re not an imposition to me, peach. i can’t leave my baby here alone.”
“sure. but to your parents, and…and staying rent free in your house.”
suguru grins, handing over the phone to you, as you read the texts on the screen.
[suguru]: can my friend come home with me for break? her name is y/n.
[mom]: YES!!!!!
[mom]: A GIRL!
[suguru]: not like that
[suguru]: but she’s sweet
[mom]: I’M GETTING EVERYTHING READY
you look down at the phone, noting the sweet heart emoji that he has near her contact name, the contact photo a picture of the two of them when he was considerably younger, hugging cheek to cheek.
“and i stay rent free in your apartment all the time.”
“suguru, this is…weird. i can’t just come home with you, that’s…that’s too much.”
he shakes his head.
“it’s casual. we’re just friends, you’re just coming home with me for break so you won’t be here alone.”
right. you’d almost be inclined to believe him – if it wasn’t for the fact that the time you spent around him, the more curious you got.
the more that feeling festered in you, wanting to know anything and everything about him, wanting to crawl deep into his skin and memorize everything and make sense of why he was the way he was.
“you promise?”
“for sure.”
--
“you’re a loser.”
mei mei is never one to mince her words. and you’re grateful for it – because it’s something that you need when you return from your two weeks stay in long beach with suguru over the break.
because despite the words that he told you, the ones that you didn’t really believe anyway, you come back in a worse state than you expected.
you think you love him.
because in the days of uninterrupted time that you spend together, you let your mind wander too far. because in the quiet moments that the two of you had – knee deep in the passenger seat outside the stupid coffee shop you stopped at, giggling in the bathroom when you went to dinner, and tangled in the bed sheets with him every night – you let yourself taste too much.
let your mind run a little too wild. thinking about meeting his friends at the pier he showed you, of living together in an apartment in the following year.
and the two of you teeter a dangerous line. putting each other as emergency contacts, swapping your wardrobe in between your flats, and showering together every morning – his soft hands massaging the shampoo into the roots of your hair.
“don’t be mean.” you state.
“i’m not being mean, i’m just saying that…”
mei mei sighs, cheeks in her hand, with an almost irritating look in her eyes – wholeheartedly judgemental. she just didn’t get it.
“look, he’s friends with todo. that guy i know from the finance club? and i asked around about him, apparently he loves to brag about how he gets girls off all the time. now either he’s talking about you – clearly not the way you talk about him – or he’s talking to someone else.”
you sigh. because you can’t even put it past him. because in the months you had known him, he was impossible to understand. a futile effort to read. impossible to touch.
“look, i’ll just ask him later.”
and when he comes around your apartment, well after mei mei has left, he brings a slice of peach cobbler that his coworker insisted that he take home with him.
“peach cobbler for my peach!”
you wince.
“that was corny. even for you.”
“i saw an opportunity and i took it.” suguru responds, shrugging as he loops his arms around your waist, chin resting against the top of your head as he eyes the pot of boiling ramen on your stove.
and you bite the bullet as fast as you can.
“do you see other girls?” you ask.
“huh?”
you swallow hard, dry patch in your throat, as you feel the sweat tickling the top of your forehead. it’s from the heat of the stove.
“do you see other girls? or guys?”
“no. do you?”
you shake your head. and you’re unsure how to word the next question – because there was something humiliating, too bare about having to admit that you want more to him – when things were so sweet as they were.
perhaps you should have known better. coffee was always bitter at the end.
“why do you ask?”
you shrug.
“dunno. was just thinking about us. and how we spent break together and all that.”
suguru presses a kiss to your hairline.
“yeah? did you have fun?”
you hum in response.
“yeah. i really liked the city. and your mom and your sister. it was really sweet of you to take me.”
you pause, wincing as you decide to be as blunt as possible.
“and i like you.”
he laughs.
“well, i like you too.”
“no, no, i like you. well, i more than like you, but i…i can’t say those words.”
there’s a silence. and his arms feel like loose limp noodles around you. and you realize now, that you made the wrong choice. you turn around, only to find hollow brown eyes staring at you, the makings of a frown on his face.
“suguru?”
he winces.
“i can’t.” he whispers.
“why not?”
and you’re not sure what it is, but it throws him into a panic. with his facial features scrunched up, eyes hollow, and nervous hands running through his hair.
“i just can’t.”
you cross your hands over your chest, the bitter contempt of rejection blooming in your chest, as you look down, picking at the scab on the inside of your palms as you ask again.
“i said i didn’t want any attachments.” he adds.
“i know. but can you blame me for being confused? you took me home to see your family.”
“as a friend.”
“you didn’t act like my friend while we were there.”
suguru groans.
“and that’s my fault, i know that but –”
that one stings. admitting that he regrets it.
“okay, well. that’s alright. maybe you should leave now, then.” you state.
“wait peach, no. i don’t want to leave, i just..”
you scoff.
“you don’t want to leave?”
“no?”
it comes out meek, almost timid when he utters it. a question. like he can’t even admit it fully – that he wants to stay. and it fills you with anger, searing red hot anger on the heels of being cast aside so nonchalantly, that it comes to a head then and there.
“do you really think so little of me?”
“what?
“i’m not good enough to be your girlfriend. but whatever else you want, that’s fine. i…i thought you thought of me better than some girl you just fuck around with.”
suguru sighs.
“you’re not some girl i just fuck around with.”
“am i not, though?”
suguru shuts his eyes, the look on his face is so pained – so miserable – that it irritates you.
“you’ve made it abundantly clear. that you like me a decent amount, but not enough to care about whether or not you’ll lose me.”
you bite down so hard on your lip that the taste of metallic blood fills your mouth, coupled with warm tears in your eyes.
“and for that, you can go to hell.”
--
“what happened to you, peach?”
you scoff, curling your nose at the old nickname, as he yanks the closest stool – his legs still too long to even be comfortable on the thing as he leans forward, noting the dried blood on your forehead.
“a car accident. you can leave now.”
suguru frowns, almost resembling a kicked dog, as he shakes his head. there’s something softer about his expressions now – something you’re sure is a byproduct of the time you spent apart or the fact that you have a broken rib – and you choose to ignore it for the time being.
“i can’t just leave.” he whispers.
“and why not?”
suguru shakes his head.
“you have a broken rib. and a deep cut on your forehead. forgive me if i’m concerned about you.”
“i can’t. knowing you, you’ll casually linger around here for a few days, and when you figure it’s appropriate to leave, you’ll be gone with the wind.”
the two of you sit there in silence, the harshness of the words hanging in the air between the two of you.
and yet again, suguru geto leaves you with a never ending pit of curiosity. about what he was doing here, to ask how he is – to make it a note to him that his cheeks look fuller, that his eyes aren’t rimmed red anymore, and that he looks good.
that you like the new hairstyle. that it killed you when he wasn’t around anymore. that you still want him to go to hell.
suguru twists the silver ring on his pointer finger a few times – a fourth, a fifth, and a sixth – before you break the silence, your curiosity getting the best of you another time.
“why are you here?”
“they called me. i’m your emergency contact still.”
“no, i gathered that. why are you here?”
suguru pauses, swallowing hard before responding.
“if orpheus hears something that deceives him – like the sound of eurydice tripping over a rock – he doesn’t think. he looks back.” suguru states.
you scoff. vague again.
“right.”
“no, really. i got the call. and i didn’t think and just showed up. i just…just had to see you.” suguru states.
he pauses.
“it’s kind of romantic, don’t you think? that he loved her so much that he had to look back, like it was almost an instinct. or human nature.”
you turn to glare at him, at the audacity of him repeating your own stupid words back to you.
“is it? because his carelessness left her in hell with hades.”
suguru scoffs.
“i never did tell you the end of the story, did i?”
you roll your eyes.
“orpheus becomes so distraught that he uses his lyre to charm death – just so that he can return to the underworld to be with her. and people debate how it happens, him being ripped apart by irate women or getting killed by the menades, but it does happen. he dies and goes to the underworld. and in some versions, people think that he reunites with her in the underworld. and she forgives him.”
“and why would she do that?” you ask.
“because he tried his best to do right by her. he was asked to do one thing – to stay away. and that’s what he did, because…because i know you’re right. because you do deserve better, i do think the world of you and think you deserve to be with someone who wants to be with you, the way that you want.”
suguru pauses.
“it’s not my fault that i can’t help but look back. i can’t do anything about the fact that i love you.”
you swallow hard, an embarrassing amount of regret – mixed in with that deep longing that he left in your chest – searing through you.
“in the casual way, right?” you respond, sarcastically.
he groans.
“it’s not casual at all. it wasn’t casual when i leaned forward to taste the sweetness of the peach on your lips – especially when i fucking hate peaches. and it wasn’t casual when i took you home with me, it was…i just couldn’t stand the thought of you being alone. and it’s not fucking casual that i drove three hours when i was supposed to be home this weekend just because i the thought of you sitting in this room alone, in pain, was driving me crazy.”
you wince, turning to look at him. and it seems that in the mere acknowledgement of his presence by locking his eyes, it seems to fill him with something – something that puts the whisper of a smile on his face.
“what?”
“i turned around for you. i didn’t know i would, but now that i have, i…i realize that i probably always would have.”
“okay?” you whisper.
“are you going to forgive me for it? not doing it earlier, for…for not getting it right the first time?” he asks.
you pause, mulling the thought over. and the silence, he takes it as an invitation to plead his case.
“i’ll beg. i’ll get on my hands and knees if that’ll do something to make it better.”
you turn to look at him.
“you…you’re special. i haven’t forgotten about you and…and i know we had something. just let me fix it? i’ll get you a hundred gifts, i’ll tell you a hundred times and i’ll - oh!’
he reaches into his bag, shoving his arms into the depths of the pockets, before yanking out a little napkin and reaching forward, opening your hand and placing it in your palm.
“a tissue?”
“open it.”
and you oblige, unfolding the tissue to see four little gummy peach rings in the napkin, before turning back to him.
“peach rings?”
“for my peach! i eat them all the time now, even though i fucking hate peaches. i only had a few left so i grabbed what i had left when i ran out. and i ate some on the way on accident because i was nervous, worried about you and all..”
you look down, the sugary crystals on the candy almost sparking in the light, as you look back at him. and he's wholeheartedly different - not the cool, cold guy you left behind, but a weird mess of awkwardness and jitters, and maybe even the tiniest hint of desperation.
he seems wholeheartedly more touchable this way.
“you make no sense.” you state.
suguru frowns.
“i know. but i’m trying.” he responds.
and you sigh, wiping your hands at your side, before eating one of the candies. bitter at first, but sweet at the end.
“suppose that’s my problem then. i’ll have to figure you out.” you respond.
suguru’s face splits into a smile, his motions so eager as he leans over the railing of the bed, the angle entirely off as he leans forward to kiss you. and it’s entirely different from every other time you’ve kissed him – full and whole, a warm and tender promise behind it.
“you’re wrong, you know?” you whisper.
“about what?” he murmurs.
“the peaches. they taste good.”
he laughs.
“is that right?” he whispers, his thumb tracing the outline of your lips, as he wavers his eyes up again, to the cut on your forehead.
he leans forward, pressing a kiss to the bandages, before pulling back, lips lingering over yours.
“i think i need one more to decide.”

Say it with me now
You are never late to a fandom. Your fic is never "invalid" for being "late". Your fic doesn't need a high word limit. Your fic does not need a high standard. Your fic does not need to be highly popular. Your fic isn't less valid than a popular author's fic. Your fic isn't inheritly bad. Your fic is amazing. Your fic is valid. The only thing that matters is that you're having fun. Fandom is not consumption and consumerism. Fandom is fun, free and for the people. Fandom is not a popularity contest. We're all nerds at the end of the day.

“Need any help with that?” a gruff voice could be heard from behind.
You didn’t need to turn around to know that the voice belonged to none other than Geto Suguru, the crown prince’s right hand, his one and only best friend, and last but not least, your occasional thorn in the side.
“You really like that joke a lot, don’t you, Lord Geto.” you said, still not turning to face him as you continued to hang the sheets on the clothesline.
“And you really like to call me that, even though I tell you all the time that Suguru is just fine. And besides, I wasn’t, and never will be, joking when I ask you that question, [name].” he chuckled.
“You know that my answer will always be no, Suguru. There are some lines that even I won’t cross, and to be honest, it’s absurd to even consider I’ll let you help me.”
“And why is that?” he asked, even though he fully knows the answer already.
“Well for starters, I’m not that stupid not to be aware of the difference in our status, friends or not, it still matters to me. And secondly-” you turn to face him as a smile stretches on your face “You don’t see me coming to your office and telling you how you should do your work.”
“I wouldn’t oppose to that, you know.” Suguru smiled back.
“Like I’m smart enough to even step into a place like that.” you huffed jokingly.
At that he grimaced slightly.
“Come on, [name]. We both know you are way smarter than a lot of the people that work in this palace.”
“Reading a few books here and there only get you so far, Suguru. You, out of everyone, should know that well.”
It never gets easier, admitting that you wish for more. In another universe, you would read all day, study literature properly with someone who actually knows what they’re doing, not only from damaged pages of stolen books from the royal library, books that are about to be disposed not only because the years have left them in a horrible shape but sometimes also because the concepts explained are so old that they aren’t even right anymore.
“You know I could always bring and lend you newer ones right? I told you that on multiple occasions already and I mean it every time.” Suguru said as he approached you and stood by your side.
You also know Suguru would never make fun of you, he really wants to help. But it’s hard enough to get and hide the books in the maids’ chambers before you finish reading them and returning them to the library's unofficial “trash” section. Imagine what trouble you would get in if you get caught with fancy new books. It hurts only to think about it.
“I know…I’ll let you know in case I need anything. I promise.”
Saying this is clearly better than admitting the truth. As much as you don’t want unnecessary problems for yourself, dragging Suguru into all of this mess is even worse.
“This doesn’t look very…straight.” Suguru changed the subject to lighten the mood, as he tried to lightly stretch one of the sheets.
“We both know that’s a bold-faced lie! Don’t mess the laundry! If it ends up falling down and I’ll have to wash it again, I won't talk to you anymore, Suguru.”
“We also know that’s not true.” he chuckled as he gently bumped his side into yours.
You returned the action.
And he did it once again but a bit more forceful.
And the cycle repeated itself for a few more times until you literally shoved him, but before he could fall on the grass, he grabbed your hands and dragged you down as well, falling down a step away from the dark haired man.
“You’re acting like a child!” you exclaimed as you started laughing.
“Says the one who shoved me!” he started to laugh too.
“You started it!”
“Oh that’s such a mature argument, [name]. Impressive, really.” the male continued to laugh as he got up and helped you up as well.
Unknown to the both of you, this whole exchange was watched from afar by none other than the crown prince, who was initially looking for his best friend, but it seems like he found something else instead.

Tell me
• Megumi Fushiguro x gn!reader
• wc ~1k words
• a bit of angst but mainly fluff
• warnings: mentions of wounds(not detailed), mentions of wincing, lying, slight trust issues mentioned, i think that's all
A/N : not really proofread, but i had fun writing this after my hiatus :))
An angry knock could’ve been heard from all across the dark hallway.
Megumi didn’t need to get up from the laying position he was in, on the bed, to know that the person on the other side of his door was no one other than you, his partner, and it was even easier for him to guess, from the way you were knocking, that you were not happy at all.
“Megumi, open the door.” your voice could be heard from the hallway.
Megumi. Not ‘Gumi, not darling, not babe, not love, not other pet name or silly nickname you could ever come up with, because if there is someone in this world that could invent the cheesiest appellatives to ever exist, it was you. Ever since you two started dating, there were very few instances in which you called the boy by his given name, two to be more exact, when you were teasing him and when you were upset at him and it didn’t take a genius to figure out that unfortunately for him, right now it’s not the first one.
He tried to get up as quietly as possible without wincing from the wound that he got, not even half a day ago, while he was on a mission with Yuji. The boy walked to the bathroom and turned on the water in the shower.
“In the shower.” he announced standing close to the door hoping that you’ll hear and leave him alone for a little while more.
“Yeah, yeah sure and I am the heir of the Gojo clan.” you said in a monotone tone before continuing: “I know you are not in fact in the shower, unfortunately for you, I wasn’t born yesterday Megumi, I heard you shuffling in the room a second ago, not to mention that if you were, in fact, showering you wouldn’t have heard me so clearly as you seem to have heard. Don’t lie to me and come open the door.”
He hesitated mentally face palming himself. Megumi doesn’t even know why he bothered lying, you paid an incredible amount of attention when you actually wanted to. And yet he didn’t move from his spot on the bathroom floor.
A minute passed, then two and if he didn’t know any better he’d say you got the hint and left. But he does know better, he knows you better-
“Please.” your voice was quiet but he heard it all too clearly. And hesitation or whatever held him back be damned, because Megumi knew. He was well aware that if you said please he’d do anything you asked him to without hesitating one bit.
He turned off the water and got out of the bathroom. A part of him was still hesitant as he walked to the door but he knew he can’t avoid you any longer at this point.
Megumi opened the door and you entered, arms crossed looking him up and down.
“Do you have something you want to tell me?” you asked looking straight at your lover.
“I don’t.” he said a bit hesitant.
If there was something Megumi didn’t like to do, it was to lie to you. He knew you didn’t like being lied to either, but he believes that this time it’s for the greater good, which would include you not finding out about his recent wound. But he has this glooming feeling in the pit of his stomach that you somehow already found out.
You breathed a sigh.
“Okay. I’ll just pretend I didn’t hear that, so I am going to ask you again, okay? Megumi” you took a step forward towards your boyfriend. “do you have something you want to tell me?”
You knew. You definitely knew. There was no way you didn’t know at this point. But still, he had to try denying it once more.
“I don’t have anything that I want to tell you.” he said, avoiding your gaze, a thing that he kept doing unintentionally since you got into the room.
He was a bad liar. At least, that was the case when it came to you. That’s something the both of you could agree on.
“Why do I have to find out from Yuji that you got hurt?” you decided to say it already to his face since he clearly showed no signs of telling you himself.
“…listen [name]-“ he started but you interrupted him.
“No! I don’t want to listen, I gave you the change to talk, not once but twice mind you, and you said that you didn’t have anything that you wanted to tell me so I’ll do the talking.” you took a deep breath and continued “you know I don’t like to be lied to Megumi, you know it and yet you still go and do it. I don’t understand it, you always want to know when I get hurt on missions, why shouldn’t I know when you’re the one who gets hurt? I thought you said you trusted me. Did that not include telling me if you get hurt? Did I ever make you feel like you can’t be vulnerable around me?”
“[name] you know that’s not the case-”
“Then why? Why do you hide stuff like that from me? And if you start saying some shit like “you didn’t want to worry me” I’m leaving this room right now because we both know I will worry about you no matter what you say to me-”
Megumi took a step forward and closed the distance between the two of you by gently grabbing your face and kissing you. The kiss wasn’t long by any means, but it felt more sincere than any words Megumi could say at the moment.
There was a short silence afterwards as you two stared into each other’s eyes. You knew he was sorry. That’s one of the things you prided yourself with, reading Megumi better than anyone else ever did and yet, you couldn’t help but want more. You didn’t want to be able to read him as much as you wanted him to tell you all of those things himself, to talk to you.
“I am sorry.” he apologized looking into your eyes.
“I know that.”
“You’re right, I should tell you this stuff. I promise I’ll never hide this kind of things from you ever again.” he added as his hand went to caress your cheek.
“I’m glad you finally agree with me.” you smiled as you leaned into his hand.
Megumi took your hand and gently pulled you to his bed. You two cuddled and ended up falling asleep in each other’s arms.
A/N : i hope you liked it :))

imagine being Alhaitham's partner and instead of being called a normal endearment like "my love", "my darling" and so on
he'd call you "my little encyclopedia" <3 /j
P.S. or since he's in the Haravatat (which specialises in linguistics):
"my little dictionary "

✨️Maybe next time✨️
-Fluff??;
- Zhongli x gn! reader;
-wc: ~0.9k;
-warnings: reader criticising themselves at some point but I think that's all
A/N: welcome to another fanfic based on my wishing adventures in genshin impact, i hope you will like it! It's kind of Sagau but you are simply seen as a player and not as some creator/god/...
You sat down at a table on Wangshu Inn's terrace. You were watching the sky as it was becoming darker and darker as the sun was slowly setting down in the distance. It all felt peaceful.
Some footsteps could be heard in the background.
"Mind if I join you?" asked a familiar voice coming up behind you.
"I think you already know the answer, Mr. Zhongli."you answered without looking at the man.
He took the empty seat near you and started looking at the sky.
"Are you alright?"
"Yeah. A bit sad, to be completely honest, but I am okay."
He didn't need to ask the reason for your sadness, for he already knew it far too well. It was the third time this had happened. The third time his event banner came in the game, and the third you didn't get him.
"Sorry." you whispered very very silently, but not enought to not be heard by the ex archon.
"Come again?"
"I am sorry I didn't get you."
"It wasn't your fault, [name]. We both know that."
"Yes, but, if maybe...I don't know...maybe if I worked a bit harder...got more stars in the abyss or something...maybe then I could've had enough primos..." you stated only to be interrupted by Zhongli.
"Don't say that, [name]. You don't have to beat yourself up for it. You did your best, and that's all that matters. Maybe it was meant to be like that. If you are... concerned about my feelings regarding this matter, I want you to know that I am completely alright and-"
"Don't say stuff like that if you don't mean it." you talked over him.
He was silent at this. Because it was true. He was, in fact, not alright with it. He was as sad, if not even sadder than you. He wanted to be by your side so much. He wanted to be, even way before he met you. Zhongli heard a lot about you from the traveller, before you even came in Teyvat. The traveller told him a lot of nice things about you and considering that the mighty traveller brought you such praise, the geo user was sure that you were a good person. But only when he met you, he truly saw what a wonderful person you really are. He heard from others how it felt being in your party. They would often describe it as a great experience. But the thing Zhongli was curious about was something described as "gold aura". Apparently, when they were in the party, the characters not only felt more powerful than usually, they would also feel this warm and distinct aura surrounding them. Something that they never felt before and could never feel unless they are chosen to be part of your party. But truth to be told, Zhongli didn't really care about all that technical stuff, he simply wanted to be by your side mostly to help you in your adventures. He wanted to join and protect you more than anything.
"Silence speaks volumes, Zhongli. And your silence tells me that you want me to have you as much as I do." you said as you turned to look at his face.
The man chuckled. The sound was so beautiful.
"You're not mistaken. I really want to go on adventures with you. But look at the bright side," you stared at him with curiousity "even thought we cannot see each other that often, we can at least meet up like this from time to time."
He was right. Maybe you can't have him in your team, but that didn't mean that you were banned from seeing him and hanging out from time to time.
"You're right." you admitted as a little smile crept up your face "I would really like that."
"The same goes for me."
You and Zhongli enjoyed some tea and snacks as you continued chatting about random things. The time went by really really fast and before you two knew it, it had became a bit past midnight.
"It's gotten late. I should go back to the harbor. I still have work tomorrow. And you should definitely get some rest, [name]. Let me escort you to your room."
You accepted his proposal and went inside the Inn.
"Are you sure you don't want me to talk to Verr Goldet to get you a room for tonight?" you asked as you arrived in front of your room.
"You do not need to worry about me, [name]. I can manage to get back home safely." the ex archon assured.
"I know, I know, I guess it was worth the try."
You were ready to enter the room when Zhongli stopped you. He looked lovingly at you with his golden eyes as he spoke.
"[Name]...I know that the Gods of Gacha, or whatever the name you called them, weren't really on your side this time...but I tend to believe that good luck is getting better with time so...maybe next time...we'll be together.
"I like how that sounds...maybe next time."
The geo user smiled at you for one last time that evening.
"Good night,[name]. Sweet dreams."
"Good night, Zhongli." you responded as you went inside the room.
Zhongli was right. You two will still be able to see each other sometimes, and that's enough. Well, at least for now, but you have high hopes about his next rerun.
