He wanted to work on it or "repair it," as he stated bluntly in one of their first meetings with the lawyers. She wanted out, but their relationship had become toxic and emotionally draining. He was never around after they got married, which she would later find out was because he was cheating on her for the past year that they were together before the marriage. Her trust issues worsened after that news, and her joining the NYPD two years later didn't help them, but she loved her job and still resented him.
