Hi, my name is Cas I'm 18 and a college freshman at UTSA. Go Roadrunners! I'm a psych major with a minor in English. I am all about studying, hitting the gym, and trying to stay positive. I struggle with anxiety so college can be extremely overwhelming for me at times so I try to stay positive and take breathers and like to be super organized and plan everything out. I will try to post only about studying, college, and a ton of positive and uplifting quotes but I may talk about my anxiety as I am working through it with the help of therapy and my boyfriend and it does really effect college for me.

Hey, I was wondering if you could make like a list of your go to school supplies and what you recommend for school because I’m having a hard time finding good pencils, pens and highlighters to use. BTW love your feed
Hello :-) Of course, my recommendations would be:
a backpack - the best solution for carrying around a lot of things! I tried going with a shoulder bag on my first day of university and it was the worst thing ever!!!! Never again will I do that to myself! Get yourself a sturdy backpack with strong straps! You, your back and your shoulders will thank me later! I use a 13″ laptop version Fjallraven Kanken, it is really awesome. Very practical, comfy and waterproof. My only dislike is how the zips go so far around the whole bag. I always get nervous that someone behind me will unzip it and steal my purse or whatever it sitting at the bottom.
a 4 ring binder (and plastic sleeves) - any brand will do really! I would recommend getting one per subjects since it saves running out of space if you try to fit things into one. It is also sometimes cheaper to purchase several at once! This stay at home though!
notebooks - I use a single Arc Notebook for all my subjects and love it. I find it easier to have a single notebook with dividers, rather than carrying several individual books. However, any notebook(s) would be fine. You can decide if you’d like spiral, A4 or A5, etc.
OR a tablet for digital notetaking - this depends on how you plan to do your notes but I’ve recently been using our family iPad Pro for university and absolutely love it. It is so convenient, easy to use, and fun! Writing with the pencil is so smooth. I can change colours, mistakes, placement so fast. I think it has helped me be much more productive than any other semester!
planner - this can be any you like or even digital version! I tend to go for smaller planner if I’m actually taking it to uni. Here is are some recommendations. Here is a review on the Mossery Co planner. Here is my 2017 bullet journal. Here is a detailed pros and cons list of a planner vs bullet journal. There is also my printable or digital 2018 student planner or 2018 weekly planner :-)
pens - I would recommend getting a pack with a selection of colours. I usually recommend the Staedtler 432 pens since they’re well priced, easily accessible, come in packs and don’t smudge. I don’t see the point in buying huuuuge packs with a million pens but 10 to 12 is more than enough. Other pens I like are the Pilot G2 and Juice, Staedtler Triplus Fineliners, Zebra Sarasa, Muji Gel Pens. Obviously, you don’t need a million different packs! To be super simple, I’d say the Zebra Sarasa is my favourite at the moment. Here is a more detailed comparison though!
highlighters - I use the cool, warm and light packs of the Zebra Mildliners. I’ve used the Stabilo Swing Cool in the past and they were good! I think having a selection that matches your pens is so helpful when you’ve organised a colour code.
pencil case - I only take a few pens to uni so my pencil is only small. I don’t think it’s necessary to take a huge pencil case so just any will be okay! I have one from Muji and one from Emma Bridgewater!
etc - this goes for post-it notes, page flags, etc! I love to-do list pads and post-it notes to help keep me organised!
printables - I’ve uploaded a few to my Tumblr and some more to my Etsy! (You can use ‘student10’ to get 10% off any purchase!)
I hope this helps and thank you!! xx

The first week of Spring Semester has started and I am determined to start this semester off right and to do really well after having a very awful last semester. I created a complete assignment schedule for 3 of my 4 classes, the fourth class doesn’t have a list of assignments. Also using my Happy Planner to plan each week and love having positive messages for each day.

Weekly study schedule printable
After releasing my monthly calendar printables in several colours, I decided to publish my study schedule with a few different options in design and colour! I’ve had so many people say they’ve been really helpful and that makes me so happy! I’m just pleased to know that something small I’ve done has the ability to help someone who needs a little bit of organisation in their lives.
For ease, I’ve created entire Google Drive folders for the timetables starting on either a Monday or Sunday. You can then go through to pick whether you’d like it with or without times on the left-hand side. Then you can pick a colour, download it and print! Click the links below to access the PDF files.
Monday start (includes with and without times, and four different colours) Sunday start (includes with and without times, and four different colours)
If you need some inspiration on how to use your new timetable, check out my sample! Other examples you can see on my blog or on my tagged photos on Instagram!
I hope you enjoy using these and if so, I’d love to see them in action! Feel free to tag me on Tumblr with #emmastudies or on Instagram with my username @emmastudiess in any photos you upload. If there are any problems or errors, please let me know via my inbox.
Disclaimer: This printable is for personal use only. You may edit it yourself if you like, but please do not redistribute without my permission. Thank you!

Taking geography notes late at night might make flash cards as well to study on the go. Want to be asleep but my roommates like having people over really late and are really rude. For anyone with roommates how do you deal with rude or annoyingly loud roommates especially when it's really late and you want sleep? I don't know the best way to deal with this person I don't want to be mean but I hate not being able to sleep until 1 or 2 in the morning when I have 8ams. Please help!

Note-Taking
Hey guys! So I’ve been receiving questions regarding my note-taking style and strategy for quite some time now but I believe I have never answered them in detail. The good news is, I finally decided to make a post about this (plus, I had fun making the graphics :D). Note that I am a visual learner, so my note-taking methods may not be effective for some of you, but I hope you can all learn something.
Class Notes
I only use one notebook for all my class notes, an A4 grid notebook whose pages I divide into two columns.
I use the outline method for in-class notes, which means I write information chronologically, in the order that they are taught. Some teachers do not have properly structured presentations/lessons (good thing my physics teacher does) so when in need, I use arrows to connect related information.
Abbreviations to me are one of the most important things to master when taking notes. I personally make them up as I go along. Some examples of abbreviations I use are:
w/c - which
w/ - with
cpd - compound
envt - environment
digenz - digestive enzyme
It might be confusing, but to me, knowing the context and part of speech are enough for all abbreviations to be comprehended.
Here’s an example: ‘Indonesia’s tsunami pre-warning system is made up of two types of components’ could become ‘Indo’s snmi pre-warn sys 2 type comp’.
After Class
The first thing I would do is highlight keywords and terminology (and sometimes formulas). For physics, since my teacher is relatively succinct, I don’t really highlight, but for humanities and biology, I look for words that would be expected by a mark scheme, words that are crucial to the understanding of each particular piece of information.
I would then check if the material taught coincides with the syllabus, and if not, note down any points that are missing or have yet to be taught. You could write these on a post it or on the syllabus itself, but I prefer to highlight the syllabus’ pdf file.
Rewritten Notes
My rewritten notes are arranged based on the order they appear in the syllabus unless there are pieces of information that are related to more than one topic.
I use a black pen for rewriting notes as well as colored pens to write keywords and terminology only. I know some people who write whole sentences in colored pens but to me that is ineffective; we all have our own learning styles. When making tables, I usually use different colors for different columns (see the table for different types of radiation above) which is most often the color I associate with each word. For example, water would be blue, ocean would be a darker shade, ice would be a lighter shade, and water vapor would be purple.
I still abbreviate words in my rewritten notes, but they’re not as condensed as the ones in my class notes. Another thing I find helpful is leaving a bit of space between separate points especially if the page doesn’t have a lot of diagrams. I can’t think linearly, so I can’t remember super lengthy bullet points.
I use mildliners and a drawing pen to make my diagrams (more of these in my biology notes) but I only start with pencil if it’s a complex diagram. I rarely highlight my rewritten notes, but even if I do, it’s usually only the headings and formulas.
I don’t have a rough draft for my notes, but I try to visualize the layout. I try to alternate between words and pictures/diagrams so that when I’m sitting for an exam, all I have to do is imagine that I’m looking at that page and I can remember where everything is.
Well, that’s all from me. I hope that this information could be of some use to every single one of you. Don’t hesitate to ask me questions if you’re confused about note-taking or any other problems you might have :)

Pseudoscience and English
Have to finish my essay proposal that is due tomorrow and I haven’t even started it yet. The essay prompt is to choose 2 episodes of a show that features pseudoscience in it and write to the audience urging them to watch more skeptically but I am having such a hard time choosing a show. I fell in love with Mindhunter on Netflix but so many aspects of it are true and it is really hard to argue criminal profiling. If anyone knows a good pseudoscience show on Netflix let me know I have no idea what to write about.

So tired of people not believing in me and telling me I can’t do something because every time they do, I work even harder to show them I can. Today was a good day went to all my classes even though I was a little late to my 8am class and went to the gym this evening for a kickboxing class and ate a really healthy dinner. I have so much homework to do this week and a big test on Wednesday that I am really worried about so lots of studying to do.

Happy Sunday well Sunday evening. Today was a good lazy day where I lounged around in pajamas and watched movies until I decided to put on real clothes and go to the cafeteria. Revising some of my lecture notes so that they are both legible and pretty and getting ready for the week. I’ve decided that I’m going to do nothing but study until the semester ends and work on getting my grades up and reinvent myself for next semester. I know everyone says people are supposed to struggle in their freshman year of college but I’m done with the pity party and going to start actually working on my class work and notes and becoming the person I want to be.
