I was teaching kids today and they got fixated on the usual ‘are they dead now?’ question when I was talking about historical figures. So I was just like ‘Yes, they’re dead now, everyone who was alive in the 1800s is dead now.’ and then one kid was like ‘Except for you’.

what gives the lie to “silence is complicity” or its cousin “silence is violence” is that people are silent about tens, hundreds, thousands of atrocities happening right at this moment because they do not know they are happening/there is simply not enough time in the day to condemn all the evil in the world.
do you think the people saying “silence is complicity” really believe what they are saying, which implicates them too, or do they feel entitled to a stranger’s take? is it a way to build coalition or bully people? is it, at best, a poorly thought out phrase (and there are many such cases!) or is it lying through teeth?
does anyone really believe that saying the right words absolves you? that that’s all there is to it and nothing more?
#it's to bully people#and it's why there are so many inaccurate takes online#because people speak before they have not researched something#but if they don't say something RIGHT AWAY their friends will harrass them#it's also a known technique psyops use#no one wants to listen when you tell them though

observation: among a certain subset of tumblr users, the term “blorbo” has become unchic, but the concept it describes is still important; and so it has been replaced with “The Character”

hey kids! just so you know, abbreviating ‘sarcastic’ as ‘sarcy’ makes people want to squeeze you like a stress ball until your eyeballs bulge.

So listen, real talk.
I know we all say we relate to and project somewhat onto our favourite characters in this fandom, but let's face it: in reality we are all this woman.

Do y’all think siblings in medieval times would look at the little beasts in illuminated manuscripts and point at each other like ‘ha! ‘Tis thou!’

Yay! I found it! It's the Inside The Gilliverse podcast EP2
"He's more like his mum than his dad, and his mum was probably a bad person too. I've kind of adopted Michael Mando's headcanon that Nacho's mom left his dad for a richer guy, and Nacho internalized that and became greedy like his mom." I never heard of that before! I was aware of TD's headcanons for Lalo but not MM's for Nacho. This is pretty interesting compared to what I see people usually write. Maybe that's me, but the fandom seems to go with the "She died when he was young" route, and of course that's not bad or anything,,
I know you just reblogged this, but still, what are your thoughts on Nacho's mother and his past in general? You did mention you needed to think about Nacho's mom more, lol.
I'm in the same boat as you, anon! I'd never heard about that until I saw @/cassowariess mention it! I went searching for wherever MM said that, and I found an answer on a reddit AMA and an answer in an interview with Vulture:

the second one doesn’t give much info, just a hint that his mother's absence may have contributed to his decision to join the cartel. the first one, though, has a little more to it; he points out that there are no pictures of Nacho's mother in their family home, which is strange for a man as family-oriented as Manuel, and again says that whatever happened regarding her might have been what drove Nacho to the cartel
he lists three possibilities: that 'whatever happened' made him want to make money, that it made him want to find belonging in a group, or that it simply made him want anything that he could use to escape his pain. he doesn't specifically say anything about Nacho's mom leaving him for a wealthier man, or even leaving him at all rather than dying or something else; I looked around a bit for a source on that but couldn't find it, would love if someone could point me in the right direction!
and same as you again, anon, I've also noticed that many in the fandom tend to go with 'she died when Nacho was younger.' it does make sense that people would assume she's dead, because it explains the literal zero mention or even implication of her in canon. she definitely can't still be in the Varga family vicinity, or Nacho would have mentioned her before bringing up Tía Rosa and the twins when pleading with Manuel to not disrespect Hector. she's gone, but 'gone' can mean different things...
I do think that 'whatever happened' took place when Nacho was young, but not too young to remember, not too young to have understood what was going on at the time. his love and loyalty to his father is very strong, a core part of who he is, and I really don't think there's room for any other recipient for those feelings, or they wouldn't be so intense for Manuel alone; meaning, he's fully dedicated to his father and not at all to his mother (or her memory, if she's deceased, or even to the hope that they'll meet again if she had somehow disappeared and her fate was unknown)
the more I think about it, the more it seems like there's at least some level of resentment here in this family-of-two towards the missing wife and mother. the lack of photos of her in the home (both homes, though aside from the fake IDs we never see a picture of Manuel in Nacho's house either, so we can't read too much into that), the lack of any mention of her whatsoever (the times Manuel attempts to get Nacho to go to the police would be perfect occasions to bring up what his mother would want for him, one would think), Nacho's overwhelming devotion to his father, which seems too strong and too focused on Manuel only to leave room for anyone else to share in it...
still haven't pinned anything down yet, haven't made a decision on what I think My Headcanon is, but 'Mrs. Varga divorces Manuel and both he and Nacho still hold bitterness towards her for it' is definitely interesting me as a possibility!
and as for my thoughts on Nacho's past in general... a lot of the basics are things most people agree on; he was born and grew up in New Mexico, worked at his dad's shop as a kid like Jimmy worked in his dad's corner store, he's an only child, he was best friends with Domingo pretty much all their lives. you know, all that
one thing I feel pretty confident about, though, is that Nacho didn't grow up with his family in dire financial straits. I think that, while they didn't have too much money to spare for luxuries, they were safely above poverty level and Manuel's business always did decently well for itself
I saw someone (on here, I'm pretty sure, but idk who) say that they'd seen people claim Nacho got into the cartel so his family could have money, and they disliked how quick people were to assign Nacho the 'desperate dirt-poor immigrant' trope (though it'd be 'from an immigrant family' in this case). I believe they said it was stereotypical and robbed Nacho of having more unique, less noble reasons for becoming a criminal, and I agree. he definitely did want to gain a higher level of wealth for himself and his father, but I think it's boring and doesn’t suit the character to say it's because he grew up near-destitute, to say that he joined the cartel to 'save' his family
Nacho was greedy! he didn't need cartel money. he wanted it. my greedy tragic fool of a snake <3

Yeah anyone who tells someone to kill themselves over ANY reason gets an instant block from me. Whatever happened to just telling people to go fuck themselves? It's still aggressive and rude but at least you don't sound like a soulless git.
I think some of my favourite tumblr interactions are when this person told me to 'watch my mouth' over tags on their post. And a prominent OFMD blogger writing for people to stay safe. From mean Izzy fans, not any real dangers.

Similar to that post you added to, someone who identified as a Punk told me I can't tattoo myself bcs I'm not a real tattoo artist. I asked them if they were a cop (asking for my license and all) and they blocked me
lmao this website is insane.
I don't think it's as bad as Twitter where someone will convince 500 people to dogpile you over doing something as mundane as making your neighbours chili (yes this did happen) but it's still full people who lash out over the most inane shit.
Though some of these people are probably Twitter refugees who fled here after Muskrat took over so now we have to deal with their annoying asses.

I got told to kill myself because I went to see the Oppenheimer film. Which doesn't glorify Oppenheimer at all, but half this website seems to think it did.
tbh, even if it had glorified him, telling someone to kill themselves because they went to see a movie is terminally online behaviour of the most insane kind. Imagine if someone said that to people IRL lol. They never would, because they're cowards and they know it's unhinged behaviour.
