𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 - Marissa Meyer
Ok, hello again. I was ‘saving’ this for later but then I found out it was due tomorrow. So I read it, and ASDFGHJKL HELP ME.
Long before she was the terror of Wonderland―the infamous Queen of Hearts―she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love. Long before she was the terror of Wonderland, she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love. Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next queen.
Then Cath meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the king and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship. Cath is determined to define her own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.
In her first stand-alone teen novel, the New York Times-bestselling author dazzles us with a prequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
First off, Marissa Meyer is a beyond terrific author in my opinion so far. I’ve read the Lunar Chronicles, so I had high hopes for this one. As in, I was literally stalking my library to get it.
Because of the fact that it’s a prequel to Alice in Wonderland, this book incorporates all of these wonderful puns and riddles throughout. In my opinion, they added to the charm of this. It was really clear where the inspiration had come from; that it was clear that it built upon Lewis Carrol’s whimsical Wonderland. But, at the same time, it doesn’t appear as a blatant copy. It’s just another outlook on the poor Queen of Hearts. And can I just add that I’d really like a rose macaron right now??
It begins really lightly, with great descriptions of baked goodies. As the story progresses, it grows darker-really quickly, almost just sneaking up on you. Much like how her fate snuck up on Catherine, I guess. To get there, Catherine’s repeatedly feeling this sense of anger and frustration. And then, BLAM, you get the full thing. The full thing on Cath’s madness, insanity, everything.
However, don’t worry. The book is still mad and weird-in all the best ways.  Touching on everything, Meyer knows exactly how to wrap everything up in a beautiful finish.
And now...now my heart is GONE. Oh Lady Pinkerton, I do feel so sorry for you.
On the other hand, there are some weak points. There’s the whole insta-love thing, which do bother some people. Well, for me, I guess it’s kinda a cliche but ITS JEST AND OH MY GOD HE IS JUST AMAZING. Not to mention, Cheshire. He was just stunning- could’ve been my favorite character, but he was gone for the entire second half. Sigh. And the Jabberwock. I’m pretty sure he was in a DIFFERENT STORY THEN ALICE IN WONDERAND, but I guess it still works. Also, why is Peter so important. This almost unknown rhyme is suddenly majorly into it. To be fair, it is surprising and makes sense when you get it.
All in all, this was a heartbreaking, beautiful way to introduce everyone to the Queen of Hearts. May she forever rule in peace. As in, let her be insane and mad. She deserves it after all that.
Until I attempt to write again, さようなら.

𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭 𝘖𝘯𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 - Zoe Sugg
“Why not start a book blog amongst other random things?” - me at about 5:28 AM
And that’s why I’m here. I know it’ll probably be impossible to be able to find  me but I hope that someone will actually read this. It won’t be the longest thing ever but...I can tend to ramble sometimes.
That leads us to the book up for discussion/review today. I read this a couple days ago and the main character Penny has a blog which may or may not have lead me to create this.
From award-winning YouTube sensation Zoe Sugg, popularly known as Zoella, comes her New York Times bestselling debut young adult novel, which perfectly captures what it means to grow up and fall in love in today’s digital world.
I have this dream that, secretly, all teenage girls feel exactly like me. And maybe one day, when we realize that we all feel the same, we can all stop pretending we’re something we’re not… But until that day, I’m going to keep it real on this blog and keep it unreal in real life. Penny has a secret. Under the alias GirlOnline, Penny blogs her hidden feelings about friendship, boys, high school drama, her crazy family, and the panic attacks that have begun to take over her life. When things go from bad to worse at school, her parents accept an opportunity to whisk the family away for Christmas at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. There, Penny meets Noah, a gorgeous, guitar-strumming American. Suddenly she is falling in love—and capturing every moment she spends with "Brooklyn Boy" on her blog. But Noah has a secret, too, one that threatens to ruin Penny’s cover—and her closest friendship—forever.
This book is more or less a cliche type of book-there’s romance, two boys and one girl, and confusion with the best friend. Shocker. The thing is, the author manages to pull out of that, a unique perspective on the whole. It introduces topics that some people find uncomfortable-such as Elliot, Penny’s best friend, being gay. Throughout the book, we can see him struggling with his parents. There’s also the fact that Penny has a condition that many of us may have-we just don’t know it. No, it isn’t a big thing like cancer, more like panic attacks. In addition there’s the fact that it’s set in Britain, before moving to America for a bit. For me, who’s never been in a country apart from the U.S. and Canada, it was an interesting addition-something I don’t see often (unless it’s Harry Potter but I can’t think of anything else off the top of my head).
Starting at the beginning, we already see that Penny isn’t your average girl. She’s clumsy like many of us, me included. but she writes about it in her blog. All normal, until she goes to America on a trip. There the drama begins-and doesn’t end; that’s not until she actually comes back to England.
All in all, this is a cliche, but if you’re looking for a sweet book, it is quite a nice pick. I don’t expect to want to re-read it but it’s a cute little thing.
On a side note, the bold is the summary of the book according to Amazon. That’s just there for a general idea of everything.
Until I attempt to write again, au revoir.
