lily's brilliant but she doesn't PUT PEOPLE DOWN FOR IT

walburga is a cunt and irredeemable as well but she would never use the cruciatus ffs

walburga put up with sirius' shite because she fucking admired him, she preferred him over regulus

it wasn't remus who worked out how to become an animagus (one of the most dangerous and difficult things you can do) it was JAMES AND SIRIUS and also peter but it's inferred that peter needed quite a bit of help

peter wasn't useless. he was very good at magic, only sirius and james overshadowed him a LOT because they were simply better

remus doesn't "put up" with james and sirius, he's in AWE of them. he can't BELIEVE they call him friend

sirius didn't ABANDON regulus, he left an abusive household

sirius would NEVER choose regulus over james. people who say so truly don't know what having a best friend means

jegulus was fun when it was just a joke on tt but it lacks nuance in a way that is disturbing. as if james was boiled down to a simpering idiot and regulus was raised to the state of perfection

wolfstar is just the response to having jily as a ship and wanting some m/m. and that would be FINE except there is a heavy power imbalance in every iteration. and don't even get me started in the fucking cis-het characterisation of their relationship.

sirius is a fucking forest fire, not a bumbling bitch

the strongest person in the whole marauder's era is SIRIUS. he was raised in an abusive household and, against all odds, ended up with a strong moral compass and the ability to love with his whole heart. when he fucked up, the prank, he owned up to it almost immediately and told james. his best friend DIED and his first instinct was to protect his child. when that was denied, he was clever enough to know that there was no future for him and he, instead of breaking, sought revenge. when that failed, he was sent to azkaban, which is a place where MOST people die within weeks and fucking KEPT HIS SANITY, and a good part of his health. he was confined to the place he escaped , grimmauld, and he still was able to function (with a minor alcohol addiction. could be worse, given his situation). he was pleasant, collected, incredibly clever. he had the strength to forgive remus, who left him as if he'd never existed, for TWELVE YEARS. he was civil enough to the person who was responsible for the death of his best friend and who emotionally abused his godson, the only person he truly loves at this point. put up with being absolutely bashed and ridiculed by hermione, molly, even remus and arthur. put himself in arguably the worst and most dangerous place for him, an escaped convict, to save his godson and then he died, not losing a duel against bellatrix, but actually being hit by dumb luck with a stunning spell and falling through the veil.

james potter, arrogant, funny, beloved, said to be incredible on a broom, head boy, clever as fuck, had the biggest heart of them all. sacrificed himself without even batting an eye. put himself in danger numerous times, not least every full moon and ESPECIALLY when the prank happened. where was peter, huh?

remus was quiet, sort of cowardly, and ran from his problems. he ALWAYS runs. his friends find out he's a werewolf? he runs. his friends think he's a traitor? he runs. his best friend's son is left orphaned? he runs. his best friend is accused of betraying the fucking potters? he does NOT show up for him for TWELVE YEARS. his ex friend, whom he thinks is a murderer and of whom he has some information on? he chooses not to say shite because he's afraid of how it'll play out with dumbledore. he is asked directly by harry, a traumatised child, about sirius black and his relationship with his dead father and he... fumbles. he, in a sense, runs. his lycantropy is found out by the entire school but he still has a place for him as a teacher in the only stable job he's ever had? he runs. he falls in love with someone who loves him back? he fucking runs. he finally marries someone whom he loves and who loves him (don't even get me started on tonks, i've got a lot of thoughts on tonks and the disservice done for that character) and is about to have a child with that person? HE FUCKING ABANDONS HIS PREGNANT SPOUSE TO GO PLAY WITH SOME TEENAGERS. i am not saying he isn't a good person, or that he cannot be likeable, but for FUCK'S sake, he's not a hero. and he is, in my eyes, just as fucked up and capable of fucking up as sirius, if not more. he literally endangered students just because he was scared to own up to something he enabled when he was a teenager. he abandons his pregnant spouse because he's SCARED. look me in the eye and tell me if tonks, twenty-something tonks, pregnant with a, potentially, deathly ill child, WAS NOT SCARED SHITLESS AS WELL?! HE'S EVEN AFRAID OF STANDING UP TO HIS BEST FRIENDS, NOT EVEN AS A CHILD OR TEENAGER, AS A FULLY GROWN ADULT (in ootp, the firecall scene)

i love it when authors make sirius only a little bit ‘cool’, but almost in the lucius malfoy-kind of pretty way. he may be a rebel but he’s still posh and vaguely traditional. his pronunciation becomes unbearably ‘stiff upper lip’ when he’s emotional. he wears his hair long because his father and grandfather also kept it long, because it’s tradition for wizards who are of age. he wears jewellery because wizards wear jewellery, not just witches, and the look of it is great. his tattoos, if he even has them, are runes like the old magicals used to have. he only wears muggle clothes when he has to because the feeling of denim makes his entire body cringe. he smokes cigarettes but would rather smoke a pipe.

sirius black, whose rebellion is purely political, utterly ideological, and not rooted into aesthetic like what this generation is so obsessed with. he appreciates modern and muggle things because they’re interesting and fun, not lesser, but he’ll always prefer dragonhide over cow leather. his favourite leather jacket is just a transfigured outer robe for the motorbike, for the off-chance that he rides it on the roads and needs to look the part.

he can be an activist and argue for muggle and muggleborn rights while dressed like a wizard. let him be as whimsical! let him be utterly out of his depth when he needs to blend in! he can be woke AND dressed all fancy please!! ideological rebellion is a mindset NOT the way you dress omfg

The thing about teenage prongsfoot is, like, they are both desperately trying to communicate their desperate love for each other, and they're speaking the same language, but unfortunately that language is not 'English' it's 'unhinged acts of devotion.' They're like knights swearing themselves wholeheartedly over in service to their lord, but they're both convinced they're the knight and the other is the lord. Both of them are existing simultaneously as the Arthur AND the Lancelot and also somehow the Guinevere. They are each convinced that the other knows of their love and is rewarding them with their kind touch. It all feels very beautiful and sexy and tragic but in actuality they're just winding each other up while carving their initials into a tree.

james being in awe of (character) speaking french is the least realistic shit i've read in a long fucking time. because first of all, what language do you think the british learn when they're from the upper class? mandarin? the fuck they would.

i find it very telling, especially if he's hc as desi because rarely, never that i have seen myself, is someone impressed by HIS knowledge of other languages and tongues.

i don't think james asked lily out in snape's worst memory with the goal of going out with her in mind. i've got more faith in his intelligence and ability for cruelty than to believe that. i don't think he was thinking of lily at all, in fact.

i've always read it as james having spotted snape's feelings for her, and him trying to humiliate him by 1) going out with the girl he fancies, and driving it in further by 2) having lily (a girl and a muggleborn) be the one to "save" him.

and even if he didn't accomplish it exactly, it still serves his purpose, sort of, because lily won't go out with james (popular, golden boy james, who's by all accounts a catch) even if it means sparing snape. and i find that hilarious.
