Dissociation and Diabetes go hand in hand. The feeling of being on auto pilot, of thinking and knowing exactly what to say but having no control as to what comes out of your mouth. Looking at your hands and thinking: these don't feel real.

Just remember to breathe. On top of all of the other hypo effects, the last thing we need is to start hyperventilating, right?

Focusing on the breath, and feeling the weight of your body riding and falling with your breath is probably going to be the most helpful thing you can do to get through it.

Is it perhaps worth talking to your medical advisor (dietitian, nurse or someone?) about tweaking your insulin levels if your diet has undergone a large change?Also I kinda know exactly what you mean about the hypo thing.

This is easily one of my favourite perches! I like to spend a bit of time s'ploring around my person's enclosure making sure he's a happy helper 😇 Sometimes he's a bit clumsy, and awkward, so I do what I can to be the best looker outer ever! I know he appreciates me, because he treats me to a crick 🦗 now and again, and he never hesitates to share the nape of his neck to warm me up if I need to. He likes to cuddle a lot (what a suck), but to be fair can I really blame him? My name is Chaco, I am adorable, and my hooman is a cuddly, doofy suck, who I like as nearly as much as he loves me 😉

this is primarily an obnoxious ad for the enamel pin above (pre-order it here, folks!), but I’m gonna use this opportunity to compare Velociraptor to modern descendants, and see how it stacks up!

Velociraptors & cassowaries evolved hypertrophied claws for entirely different purposes - the ‘slashing, killing claw’ of the Velociraptor is a myth, but modern-day cassowaries have the Real Deal, a ice pick-like weapon on their second toe that can grow to 5 inches.

“The inner or second of the three toes is fitted with a long, straight, murderous nail which can sever an arm or eviscerate an abdomen with ease. There are many records of natives being killed by this bird” - ornithologist Ernest Thomas Gilliard

notice how the cassowary has a straight dagger, while Velociraptor has a hook? modern equivalents to Velociraptor’s hypertrophied claw are eagle talons, used for gripping prey & maneuvering in trees. because it was a terrestrial runner, Velociraptor held this tool off the ground to keep it razor-sharp, but modern birds-of-prey (given the luxury of flight) have transformed ALL their talons into the famous Velociraptor sickle claw!

tl;dr  turns out the group aves used the last 66 million years to advance their weaponry & out murder-bird their ancestors (sorry Velociraptor!)
