Okay so I think some of you guys fundamentally misunderstood the breaking of Sindri. All of you are looking to pin blame on either him or Atreus and in doing so you're missing the point.

Take a look at this scene.

It starts with Sindri being rather melancholy, clearly not in the best mood. Yet neither Atreus or Kratos say anything to comfort him, as he seems to ramble to himself.

Sindri quickly moves on to helping upgrade Atreus' bow. He struggles with the string, something the two of them could very easily help out with but blatantly choose not to. He even looks to them for some sort of help, but neither of them seem to care. So he does it himself, never asking for help outright.

And then there comes the quote that fully solidifies just how fucking unappreciated this man is.

"Thanks for, uh, finally trying it?"

Like just listen to Atreus when he said that. Just the fucking entitlement. Like "okay, you could have done this sooner but now is fine I guess"

Sindri just went through the trouble of creating an entirely new, one of a kind, incredibly powerful new tool for Atreus to use that he's giving to him for free, And neither him nor Kratos seem to pay any care to that. But he still saids nothing.

Then there's the quote "What's it gonna be this time?"

As if this is expected, as if this isn't a kindness showed to them by someone who cares, as if this is nothing. There is no thanks given, no appreciation from either of them.

However, this isn't entirely their fault. Sindri is an adult and as an adult it's important to set clear boundaries in relationships.

He let people cross his lines constantly without saying anything.

He never stopped to tell people he felt unappreciated or used. He never set up the relationship with any boundaries in the first place, at least not ones he made clear. So when he finally snaps, it feels so out of left field. This is how he was always treated before, why now does he have a problem with it? And that's where the point lies.

Atreus and Kratos may have never thought to give thanks to Sindri for everything he's done for them, but Sindri never let them know how he felt. It isn't right for him to have expected them to know when he felt used without him saying it, and it isn't right that neither of them respected Sindri enough to fully appreciate him in the first place.

It's a lesson on what happens when you let people walk all over you. When you never advocate for yourself and give until you have nothing left to take. but it's also a lesson on what happens when you don't appreciate the people you have in your life. When you walk all over them and never advocate for their betterment. It's both.
